(p. 3) aṅkuramu ankuramu. [Skt.] n. A germ, a sprout, a bud. మొలక. నఖాంకురములు nail-marks, ప్రేమాంకురము the germ of love. నంశాంకురము నిలిచేలాగు దత్తుచేసికొనెను he adopted a son to preserve the stem of his family. ఆయనకు అంకురములేనందున as he left no heir.

(p. 5) aṅgarakṣa anga-raksha. [Skt.] n. A charm for self preservation. అంగరక్షకులు [Skt.] n. plu. Guards, attendants. అంగరక్షణి a body protector, cost of mail.

(p. 93) avadaṃśamu avadamṣamu. [Skt.] n. A pickle, a preserved fruit. ఊరుగాయ.

(p. 109) āgu āgu. [Tel.] v. n. To stop, to stay, asbtain, refrain. To bear (as a cord does a weight.) To be confined, set aside, or reserved. ఆయింటను ఆగబడి యున్నదేవకి (B. X. 75.) Devaki who was kept in restraint. తల్లిదండ్రులులెని బాలురు ఆగ నీవు దిక్కు thou art the refuge of the helpless. పశువులకు ఆరినబీడు land set aside or reserved for pasture. ఇది లేనిది నాకు ఆగదు I cannot get on without this. నా నోటిలో ఆ మాట ఆగదు I cannot keep that word a secret. ఆగు, ఆగించు, ఆచు, ఆపు the causal of ఆగు: āgu. [Tel.] v. t. To stop, check, hinder. To keep, tend. To look to, superintend, guard, protect, preserve. To fold or gather as a flock. నోరాచి మాట్లాడిరి they spoke cautiously. చెయ్యి ఆపక (T. v. 22.) without intermission. నిద్ర ఆచుట to refrain from sleep, keep away drowsiness. రాత్రిళ్లు ఇక్కడ మందులు ఆచుకొని యుండేవారు they used to keep cattle here at nights.

(p. 147) uñcu unṭsu. [Tel. Causal of ఉండు] v. t. To place, put, set, lay, let be, keep, deposit, preserve, reserve. ఈ మాటలు అట్టె ఉంచు leave off these assertions. మదిలోనుంచు to bear in mind. తమరు దయ ఉంచవలసినది you must not forget me: ఉంచుకొను unṭsu-konu. To keep for himself. To keep a mistress. To entertain in service.

(p. 159) uddhariñcu ud-dharinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To raise, lift, set up, support, up-hold, re-establish, restore, rescue, deliver, preserve, protect. పైకెత్తు, కాపాడు. వేదములనుద్ధరించు to restore the Vedas. సంసారమునుద్ధరించు to support the family. 'నగరగలిసిన గ్రామము నుద్ధరించినాడు' he saved the village which had been sequestrated.

(p. 173) uste uste. [Tel.] n. The gigantic swallow wort. The fruit is called ఉస్తెకాయ. ఉస్తెపరుగు is the fruit dried and preserved.

(p. 210) ottili ottili. adv. Hard గట్టిగా. Steadily, with preserverance ఒట్టుగా, ఒత్తిలు or ఒత్తిల్లు ottilu. v. i. To give way, go aside.

(p. 218) ōmu ōmu. [Tel.] v. a. To preserve, to cherish. కాపాడు, పోషించు. 'ఎపుడుసంధ్యలయందు నిలువెళ్లనీక నిన్నో మెడుతల్లియెంతొరలునొక్కొ.' Swa. ii. 18.

(p. 271) kāpāḍu kāpāḍu. [Tel. from కాచు.] v. a. To guard, watch, keep, to preserve, or protect, patronise. To secure from failure. తనమాట కాపాడుకొనేటందుకు with a view to verify his statement.

(p. 288) kuṇḍamu kunḍamu. [Skt.] n. An earthen pot. A pit or pot for receiving and preserving consecrated fire. A fire pit నిప్పుల గుండము.

(p. 392) gōpyamu gōpyamu. [Skt.] adj. Secret. దాచబడిన. Cherished, preserved కాపాడబడిన. గోప్యామసంధి a secret interview, an assignation. గోప్యముగా gōpyamu-gā. adv. Secretly.

(p. 556) tondaḷamu tondaḷamu. [Tel.] n. Tamarind juice boiled with some vegetable as a preserve. రెండు మూడుకూరలు కలిపిన దప్పళము.

(p. 577) dakku dakku. [Tel.] v. n. To be available for enjoyement. అనుభివయోగ్యమగు. To fall to one's share or lot; to be saved, to escape. adj. Enjoyable. అనుభయోగ్యము. మీ ప్రాణములు దక్కవు your lives will not be saved. ఈ రూకలు దక్కనిచ్చేదారిలేదు I have no chance of keeping the money. దక్కొను dak-konu. (దక్కు+కొను.) v. n. To be independent. స్వంతంత్రుడగు. To happen, కలుగు. విక్ర. ii. దక్కించు dakkinṭsu. v. a. To rescue, preserve, defend, save, get, redeem. దక్కించుకొను. I get into one's possession, appropriate. to have. To secure for oneself. To digest. ఆ యిల్లు తనకు దక్కించుకొన్నాడు he got the house into his own hands. దక్కోలు dak-kōlu. n. Occurrence. కలుగుట, సంభవించుట. adj. Taken, usurped: స్వాధీనమైన. Possible, feasible, attainable. దక్కోలుగానిచ్చు dakkōlu-gā-n-iṭsṭsu. v. a. To offer in sacrifice: to present as a gift to a god. దక్కోలుపడు Same as దక్కొను.

(p. 736) pātara pātara. [Tel. పాతు+అర.] n. A grain pit or cellar built with a small mouth above, to preserve salt or grain ధాన్యాదుల నిక్షేపము. A treasury. నిధి. ధాన్యము పాతర పెట్టినాడు he stored up the grain in a pit. ఇసుకపాతర a pack of confusion, a puzzle. పాతరతీయు to dig a pit, or to open a grain cellar. ఇసుకపాతరపారినట్లు in a full stream. పడుపాతర a pit-fall. పాతరలు grain pits.
