(p. 222) ḥ The H, as in the words దుఃఖము duhkhamu, స్వతః swatak, or, swataha. It is denominated విసర్గ Visarga and pronounced Aha and is used only in Sanskrit words.

To consecrate by a formula. పిలుచు, ఆహ్వానము చేయు, మంత్రాదులచేత సంస్కరించు. అభిమంత్రితము adj. Devoted, consecrated, a certain formula having been pronounced over it. మంత్రించబడ్డ. అభిమంత్రణము abhi-mantraṇamu. n. Calling to, addressing, inviting, a consecration, benediction by religious formula. ఆహ్వానము, పిలువడము, సంస్కారము.

(p. 202) ēsa ēsa. [Tel. often pronounced యాస or వ్యాస] adj. Wild. Crooked, wrong. గ్రామ్యము, వంకర. ఏమాట a solecism or blunder.
(p. 202) ai The vowel AI as the i in pride. The shape ఐ is used as an initial in the dictionary and in poetry, but elsewhere the Telugus use a secondary form అయి 'AYI' instead: The secondary form అయి ayi is used in poetry as a dissyllable, whenever the metre requires two short syllables for AI, which is one long. The Y in అయి is not pronounced. Thus అయిదు is not pronounced ayidu, but ai-du. In Telugu words there is this liberty of spelling; but the longer form ayi ought never to be used in words of Sanscrit origin.

(p. 365) gāruḍamu gārudamu. [Skt.] n. An emerald of a dark hue గరుడపచ్చ. గారుడము adj. Of or belonging to Garuda, the king of birds గరుడునిది. గారుడాస్త్రము gāru-ḍāstramu. n. A magical weapon over which the Garuda mantram has been pronounced.
(p. 457) j ja. [Tel.] n. The letter J; as in జింక, జెర్రి. In all Sanskrit words it is thus pronounced, as బీజము, జాలము In Telugu words it retains this sound when followed by I, E, or AI as జిలుగు. But with other vowels it is sounded as Z, or dz. Thus ౛ాబు స౛్జ. As initials, the letters చ, cha and జ, ja are often used at pleasure. The initial aspirates also are used without rule. In some Telugu words, జ, డ, ద are equivalent, thus: గోజు, గోడు and గోదు are the same.

(p. 487) ṭ ṭa. The name of a letter. In composition this is sometimes changed into డ thus చేటుపాటు chēṭu-pāṭu. becomes ఛేడ్పాటు chēḍ-pāṭu. Colloquially it changes into ష. Thus అటువంటి, అఘవంటి as, in English, intention is pronounced intenshun. This letter ట is sometimes inserted to prevent elision. ఉప్పు+ఏరు (uppu-ēru) becomes ఉప్పుటేరు (uppu-ṭē-ru.) a salt river. పెంకు+ఇల్లు, పెండుటిల్లు. This may happen even where the first word is Sanskrit, thus: మదపుటేనుగు.
(p. 496) ḍh The letter dh as in hard-hap, pronounced as a palatal.
(p. 497) t ta. The letter T pronounced as a pure dental. A feminine suffix as in చాకిత, వ్రేత. త in ordinary writing denotes తర్వాత afterwards. In prosody it stands for the foot called తగణము which consists of two long syllables followed by a short one as వంకాయ.
(p. 574) d da. [Tel.] n. The letter D pronounced as a dental. The initial T often changes into D as in అన్నదమ్ములు and తల్లిదండ్రులు. In some words ద and డ are used at pleasure. Thus దించు or డించు, దాచు or డాచు, దిగు or డిగు.
(p. 625) n . The letter N, pronounced as a dental. When followed by some consonants this changes into o (sunna) as అంత anta, కొండ konda, పెంకు penku. As an initial. N. is sometimes dropped, but only in few words. Thus ఏను, ఈవు, for నేను, నీవు.

(p. 625) naṅga or నంగనాచి nanga [Tel.] n. A weevil, or canker worm, a book worm, a round white worm, (also called వడ్లచిలుక and ముడికొక్కు.) which looks harmless but is destructive. Hence, a demure minx, a sly jade, a specious hypocrite. Sometimes used for a mosquito or gnat because it looks harmless దిట్టతనము కలిగియు బయటికి ఏమియు తెలియని దానివలె నుండునది. Swa. iii. 43. నంగనాచితనము nanga-nāchi-tanamu. n. Feigned simplicity. నంగిమాట nangi-māḷa. n. A nasal sound: a word pronounced through the nose. ముక్కుతో మాట్లాడినమాట. A snuffle, or twang. నంగు nangu. v. n. To speak through the nose: to speak with through the nose: to speak with a twang or snuffle. ముక్కుతో మాట్లాడు.
(p. 854) ph pha. [Skt.] The aspirated P pronounced like ph. in Up-hill. This letter occurs in Sanskrit or foreign words only. The F sound in English and other languages also represented by this leter.
