A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 298) kurupu kurupa. [Tel.] n. A boil or sore. వ్రణము. Raining, showering. మొన్న కురిసినదేకురుపు that was indeed a shower.

(p. 298) kuruva , కురుమ or కురమ kurupa. [Tel.] n. Long wool. కురుమగొర్రె or కురుపగొర్రె a sheep with long wool. కురుమవాండ్లు, కురుపగొల్ల or కురుమగొల్ల a caste of shepherds who weave blankets.

(p. 319) koppu koppu. [Tel.] n. The chignon or tuft in which a Hindu female folds her tresses. కేశబంధము. కొప్పు or కొప్పు వాసము the crest of a roof. The tip or end of a bow వింటికొన. తిరుపతి కొప్పులు bald heads so used because people have their heads shaved when they visit Tirupati. కొప్పుగువ్వ koppu-guvva. n. The Indian hoopoe.

(p. 368) girupu girupu. [Tel.] v. a. To twitch, or stretch, as a limb, or the ears, or the eyelids in winking. మైగిరుపు to stretch the body on waking గిరుపుకొను to wink కండ్లను కికురించు. A. iv. 222. To cause to move, to shift కదలించు. గిరుపు or కనుగిరుపు To wink. 'స్ఖాలిత్యములబయలుచేయుగనుగిరుపుసభన్,' A. iv. 73. హేళన చేయమని సభవారికి నేత్రముచేత సూచించును. గిరుపు girupa. n. A wink. బెరుకు చూపు.

(p. 507) tanmātramu tan-mātramu. [Skt.] n. A simple element, a subtle particle, rudiment, or atom. According to the Hindus, (sabdam) sound is the tanmatra of (akas) ether: (sparsha) touch is that of (vayu) air: (rupam) form is that of (tejas) fire or light, (gandham) smell is that of (prithvi) earth: and (rasam) taste is that of (jalam) water. These are the five rudiments of the five elements.

(p. 531) tirumala tiru-mala. [Tel. తిరు+మల.) n. The sacred hill of Tirupati వెంకటాచలము. Any sacred hill. తిరుమలేశ tirumal-ēṣa. n. The Lord of Tirumala, a name employed in the chorus used by a poet who wrote a set of riddles: like this one; 'మూడుశిరములున్ను ముదమొప్పపదికాళ్లు గల్గు; తోకలురెండు కన్నులారు చెలగి కొమ్ములు నాల్గు చేతులు రెండయా, దీనిభావమేమి తిరుమలేశ.' The meaning of this is:--'a man ploughing with a pair of oxen.' See తిరు.

(p. 617) drōvadi drōvadi. [Tel.] n. The daughter of Drupada. ద్రౌపది.

(p. 721) parupatti paru-patti. [Tel.] n. The cross sticks to which a weaver fixes his web.

(p. 744) pārupattemu or పార్పత్తెము pāru-pattemu. [Tel.] n. The duty or office of a manager or superintendent of a village or temple. Authority, అధికారము. పారుపత్తి or పారుపత్తెకాడు pāru-patti. n. The officer in charge of a village or temple. A man in authority. అధికారి.

(p. 1133) varupaṭṭalu or వరుపట్లు varu-vaṭṭulu. [Tel. వట్టులు+వట్టులు.] n. Quite empty or dry (things.) మిక్కిలివట్టులు. వరువట్లుగొను or వరువట్లువట్టు varu-vaṭlu-gonu. v. n. To dry up entirely, బొత్తిగా ఎండిపోవు. MI. V. ii. 94.

(p. 1251) śikha ṣikha. [Skt.] n. The point, top, tip, summit, కొన. A crest, ౛ుట్టు, సిగ. A peacock's crest, నెమలి౛ుట్టు. A lock of hair left on the crown of the head at tonsure. ౛ుట్టు. A flame, అగ్నిజ్వాల. అందితే శిఖ అందకుంటే కాళ్లు పుట్టుకొనేవాడు it if suits he is at the top: if it does not he falls at one's feet. The verb regarding a timeserver, a beggar on horseback శిఖండ. శిఖండకము ṣikhanḍamu. n. The tail of a peacock. మయూరవాలము, నెమలిపురి. Locks left on the crown or the sides of the head at tonsure, చీడము, పిల్ల౛ుట్టు. కాకపక్షము. శిఖండి ṣikhanḍi. n. A peacock, నెమలి. A peaccock's tail, నెమలిపురి. An arrow, బాణము. A cock, కోడిపుం౛ు. The name of the son of Drupada, who being at first a female, the daughter of Drupada, was (by force of tapas) metamorphosed into a man, like Iphis, invoid. Commonly, a hermaphrodite. ద్రుపదరాజు కొడుకు, ఆడదీగాక మగవాడుగాక యిబ్బందిగా నుండేమనిషి. A sort of Boa, commonly called రెండుతలలపాము a thick snake. (hence) a stubborn person, a pertinacious wretch. మొండి, మూర్ఖుడు. శిఖండికము ṣikhanḍi-kamu. n. A peacock, నెమలి; A cock, కుక్కటము. A certain plant called Abrus pracatorious. నల్లగురు వెంద. శిఖరము ṣikharamu. n. The point, top, tip, peak, summit. వృక్షాగ్రము, పర్వతశృంగము, కొన. శిఖరి ṣikhari. n. A mountain. పర్వతము. A tree, వృక్షము. శిఖరిణి ṣikhariṇi. n. A mixture of plantains or melons in curds with sugar and spices. పెరుగులో అనేక ద్రవ్యములుకూర్చి చేసినది. The name of a certain melodious metre. వృత్తభేదము. శిఖరిహస్తము ṣikhari-hastamu. n. An attitude in dancing. అభినయభేదము. శిఖామణి ṣikhā-maṇi. n. The gem of a diadem, the crest, the principal jewel, చూడామణి. (As an affix.) the noblest, finest, grandest. నృపశిఖామణి the noblest of kings, the most glorious prince. శిఖావంతుడు ṣikhā-vantuḍu. n. A name of fire, అగ్ని. శిఖావళము ṣkhā-vaḷamu. n. A peacock. నెమలి. శిఖి ṣikhi. n. Fire, అగ్ని. A peacock, నెమలి. A cock, కోడి.
