(p. 1397) aparañji aparanji. [H. from Arabic Afran -jiya which means ' foreign ' and perhaps originates in that word which is derived from ' foraneus, ' external.] n. Fine gold. అపరంజికాను lit. ' foreign coin.' A Venetian sequin.

(p. 74) amalu amalu. [H.] Authority, reign, sway, government. An office or post, a public charge. Execution, fulfilment, the period of one ruler's government. ఏలుబడి, దొరతనము, హయాము. అతని అమలులో in his reign or sway. ఆ కలెక్టరు గారి అమలులో in that Collector's days. ఆ తీర్పు అమలులోకి తేబడిన తరువాత after the decision was executed. వాని మీద అమలుచేసినారు they took steps against him, they put in force against him. అమల్దారుడు an Amildar, i.e., one who exercises authority. One who puts government orders into force. A Tahsildar or revenue officer in charge of Taluq.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 359) garuḍuḍu , గరుడి, గరుత్మంతుడు, గరుటామంతుడు or గరుటాలమంతుడు garuḍuḍu. [Skt.] n. The eagle or sovereign of the feathered race. The Brahminy or Maroon-backed kite, Haliastur indus. (F.B.I.) గరుత్మంతుడు. గరుడిరవుతు garuḍi-ravutu. n. Vishnu. గరుడముక్కువాడు a man with a Roman nose. గరుడధ్వజుడు garuḍa-dhvajuḍu. n. An epithet of Vishnu, whose emblem is the kite. గరుడపచ్చ garuḍa-paṭsṭsa. n. An inferior emerald. మరకతము. గరుడపార్వ garuḍa-pārva. n. An eagle-glance. A keen, fearless look, like that of an eagle. గరుడవాస్తు garuḍa-vāstu. n. A certain plan on which some Hindu houses are built. గరుడసరులు garuḍa-sarulu. n. A region or division of the body. చక్రధరుడు or చక్రపాణి Vishṇu. కటి or కటిచక్రము the loins, the region of the lions. అష్టకోణచక్రము an octagon. చక్రవర్తి chakra-varti.. n. An emperor or sovereign. రారాజు, సార్వభౌముడు. చక్రవర్తిని chakra-vartini. n. An empress. సార్వభౌమురాలు. చక్రవాకము chakra-vākamu. n. The Brahminy-duck or Ruddy Casarca rotila (F.B.I.) జక్కవపక్షి. The poetical swan, always described as being in pairs, to which poets liken fair breasts. చక్రవాళము chakravāḷamu. n. A range of mountains supposed to encircle the earth. చుట్టుకొండ. చక్రవృద్ధి chakra-vṛiddhi. n. Compound interest వడ్డికివడ్డి. చక్రాంకనము or చక్రాంకితములు or చక్రాంకములు chakrānkanamu. n. Marks branded on the front of the shoulders, representing the disc and shell of Vishṇu. (It is a rite similar to absolution.) చక్రాంగము chakrāngamu. n. A swan. హంస. చక్రాంగి a female swan. చక్రి chakri. n. The discus-wielder, i.e., Vishṇu. A snake, because rolled in a ring. A potter, because using a wheel.

Curds beaten with water, buttermilk. మజ్జిగ. చల్లకైవచ్చి ముంత దాచనేల, చల్లకు పోయి ముంత దాచడమేమి why conceal your pot when you come for buttermilk, i.e., why do you beat about the bush? or, why mince the matter? చల్ల or చల్లని adj. Cool, cold. శీతము. Benign, merciful, healing. Comfortable. చల్లకము ṭsallakamu. n. Sprinkling. Watering, irrigation. చల్లుట. చల్లకడి ṭsalla-kaḍi. n. 'తే అందరికి నన్నివగల నానాందమిచ్చి, చల్లచేయగ.' (Ila. i. 79.) with her graces she charmed them all, cheering and refreshing their hearts. కన్నులచల్లచేసె. (T. ii.38.) it cheered his eyes. చల్లని చెయ్యగల వైద్యుడు a physician with a lucky hand. చల్లనిప్రభువు a kind master. చల్లచప్పుడు ṭsalla-ṭsappuḍu. n. A fool జడుడు. చల్లచీమ or చలిచీమ ṭsalla-chīma. n. A black ant, so called because it is benign or merciful in not stinging as the red ant does. చల్లజంపు ṭsalla-zampu. n. One who kills in cold blood. A cruel man భయంకరుడు. చల్లటి ṭsllaṭi. adj. Cool Convex. చల్లటిబిళ్ల a convex plate of glass. as distinguished from అద్దపుబిల్ల a pane. చల్లడము or చల్లాడము ṭsallaḍamu. n. Tight drawers or breeches: short trousers, which reach as far as the middle of the thigh. The loose skirt end of the waist band that hangs in front: ఇ౛ారు, సగముతొడవరకు తొడుగుకొనే గుడిగి. చల్లదనము or చల్లన ṭsalla-danamu. n. Coolness, coldness. చల్లనీరుకణితి ṭsalla-nīru-kaṇiti. n. A sort of fish. A species of sparus. Russell's fishes. No. 104. చల్లలపడు ṭsalla-paḍu. v. n. To cool. చల్లన గు. చల్లరసము Same as చల్లకడి. చల్లరాడు tsalla-rāḍu. n. The post (తరికంబము) round which the string passes, which works the churning stick. చల్లవడియము tsalla-caḍiyamu. n. A kind of cake. వడియములలో ఒకభేదము. చల్లచేయు ṭsalla-chēyu. v. t.
