(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 46) adhidēvata adhi-dēvata. [Skt.] A presiding or tutelary deity.

(p. 47) adhiṣṭhiñcu adhi-sṭhinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To reside, be in. ఆశ్రయించి ఉండు, ఆవహించి ఉండు. అధిష్ఠానము adhi-sṭhānamu. [Skt.] n. Abode, residence, residing in. The place of abode. ఆశ్రయించి ఉండడము, ఉనికిపట్టు. అధిష్ఠానదేవత n. a tutelary or guardian deity, a presiding deity. విద్యాధిష్ఠానదేవత n. the patron of learning. అధిష్ఠాన n. One who takes up a residence.

(p. 48) adhyātmamu adhyātmamu. [Skt.] n. The soul; individuated spirit or that which belongs to, and presides over the body. The supreme spirit. జీవాత్మ, పరమాత్మ Also, Knowledge. జ్ఞానము. అధ్యాత్మ adj, Spiritual, belonging to spirit, inherent. ఆత్మసంబంధమైన. అధ్యాత్మజ్ఞానము knowledge of the Supreme spirit. అధ్యాత్మరామాయణము Ramayana explained as an allegory relating to the Supreme spirit. అధ్యాత్మికము or అధ్యాత్మికము adj. relating to the soul, spiritual.

(p. 66) apratihatamu a-pratihatamu. [Skt.] adj. Irresistible. అనివార్యమైన, అడ్డగింపగూడని. అప్రతిహతరోషుడు he who is irresistible in wrath.

(p. 75) amṛtamu a-mritamu. [Skt.] n. Nectar, ambrosia. Water, milk, clarified butter, the residue of a sacrifice. Final emancipation from matter and absorption in the Deity. సుధ, ఉదకము, దుగ్ధము, ఘృతము, యజ్ఞశేష ద్రవ్యము, మోక్షము, (వాడుకగా) మజ్జిగ. పంచామృతములు the five nectars, namely, water, milk, curds, ghee and honey. అమృతమునకు అంటులేదు nothing can defile buttermilk. వానిది అమృతహస్తము. he has a healing hand. వానిది అమృతవాక్కు his tongue is inspired. అమృతముహూర్తము n. An auspicious hour. శుభముహూర్తము. అమృతాంధసుడు n. One whose food is ambrosia, a god. దేవత. అమృతాంశువు n. That which gives forth soft beams of light, i.e., the Moon. చంద్రుడు.

(p. 83) argaḷamu argaḷamu. [Skt.] n. A round wooden bar or bolt for a door. గడియమాను. (Metaphorically) an impediment, hindrance, restraint. విఘ్నము, అభ్యంతరము. అనర్గళముగా irresistibly. వాని అధికారము అవర్గళముగా జరుగుచున్నది his authority is unrestricted.

(p. 96) avāraṇamu a-vāraṇamu. [Skt.] adj. Unrestrained, resistless. అనర్గళమైన, అడ్డంకి లేని, యథేచ్ఛయైన. 'ఏలెధరనవారణమహిమన్.' A. i. pref. 38. అవారణ or అవారణము n. Resistlessness, want of restraint. అడ్డులేమి. అవారణ or అవారణగా adv. Irrepressibly. అనర్గళముగా, యథేచ్ఛగా.

(p. 96) avāritamu or అవార్యము a-vāritamu. [Skt.] adj. Inevitable, irresistible. దుర్వారమైన, అప్రతిహతమైన, అడ్డగింపగూడని.

(p. 111) āṭaṅkamu āṭankamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, prevention, hindrance, resistance, difficulty. ఆటంకపరుచు āṭanka-paruṭsu. v. t. To object, prevent.

A rake used in husbandary. ఆటడిగ్గియ A swimming bath. ఆటతోట āṭa-tōṭa. a park. ఉద్యానవనము ఆటపట్టు āṭa-paṭṭu. n. An abode, residence, scene, place. ఆటపాక A playhouse, a theatre. ఆటవిడుపు āṭa-viḍupu. n. A school holiday or play day. ఆటవెలది āṭa-veladi. n. A species of metre ఆటాడు āṭaḍu. (ఆట+ఆడు) v. a. To play a play, to dance a dance, to act.

(p. 148) uṇḍu uṇḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To be, exist, live. 2. To reside, dwell. 3. To remain, stop, stay. 4. To last, endure, continue. 5. To keep still, stay quiet; 6. To wait. To stand over, remain as a surplus. ఉండిపోవు, శేషించు. 7. To have. నాకు భార్య ఉండగా as I have a wife. 'కనకము ఉన్నవాడు' he who possesses gold. -- 8. To keep a feast. విజయదశమి ఉండినారు they kept the Vijaya Dasami feast. ఉన్న మాట యిది this is the fact. ఉన్నరూపు the true form, the reality. నేను అక్కడ పది దినములుంటిని I remained there ten days, వాడు (ఇంట్లో) ఉన్నాడా is he at home? మీ తండ్రి బాగా ఉన్నాడా is your father well? ఉన్నట్టుండి suddenly, just as they were. ఉన్నారు they are; రేపుదాక ఉంటారా will they remain till to-morrow? అక్కడ ఉన్నారా are they there?

(p. 158) uddāmuḍu uddāmuḍu. [Skt.] n. An irresistible man. నిరంకుశమైన శక్తిగలవాడు. An independent man. స్వతంత్రుడు.
