(p. 3) aṅkilipaḍu ankili-paḍu. v. i. To obstruct to come in the way. అడ్డుపడు. అంకిలిపెట్టు v. t. To prevent.

(p. 106) aka āka. [Tel. from ఆగు to stop.] n. A check, an order, a command. Custody. అడ్డగింపు, ఆజ్ఞ, చెర. 'కికురించిరిచ్చిపుచ్చుకొను చోటులవారలాకకులోనుగాకప్పులీక.' Swa. iii. 163. ఆకట్టు (ఆక+కట్టు) ākaṭṭu. v. i. To prevent, hinder, check. నిరోధించు. ఆకపడు āka-paḍu. v. i. To intervene, to interpose. అడ్డిపడు, రామా: కిష్కిం: ఆకపెట్టు āka-peṭṭụ. v. t. To prevent.

(p. 31) aṭakāyiñcu aṭakāyinṭsu. [H.] To prevent, stop, hinder, check. అటకావు [H.] Prevention, hindrance.

(p. 33) aṭhāvaṇībaṇṭrōtu aṭṭhāvaṇī-baṇtrōtu. [H.] A revenue peon.

(p. 44) adda adda. [from Skt. అర్థ] adj. Half. సగము. అద్దగోడ. a wall that serves as a screen. అర్థరూపాయి a half rupee. అద్దమణుగు a half maund. అద్దపావులా a two anna piece. అద్దమరేయి addama-rēyi. n. Midnight. అర్ధరాత్రము, నిశీధి 'అద్ద మరేయద్దాసరి.' A. vi. 10. In revenue phrase, అద్ద means an incomplete heap. Also, a stamp or seal. వట్టిముద్ర. అద్దలవాడు he who stamps or marks the salt heaps. A marker or stamper. Also, a salt manufacturer. ముద్ర మనిషి, ఉప్పు చేసేవాడు. అద్ద n. A dry measure, half of a 'sola.' A small heap of straw not yet thrashed. అర్థసోల, నూర్చకుండా వేసిన చిన్న కుప్ప.

(p. 67) abbu abbu. [Tel.] v. n. To come into one's enjoyment, possession, or reach; be obtained or gained. చిక్కు, దొరుకు, లభించు. ప్రాప్తించు. ఇది వీనికి అబ్బేసొమ్ము కాదు the luck is too good to last; that is, he is not worthy of such good fortune, and it will not stick by him. దీన్ని వానికి అబ్బనియ్యరు they will prevent his getting it.

(p. 68) abvābu abvābu. [H.] n. (Lit. Doors, chapters.) Miscellaneous revenue accounts. 'The usual heads in Revenue accounts are Mal and Abwab. The Mal or Regular revenue is collected on land and customs, including taxes on liquors, &c The Abwab, or Miscellaneous includes the difference of exchange (often considerable) between that of the market and the fixed rate at which the revenue of the district is paid, casual aid or support of the Government officers, fees to the shroff, and contributions to various feasts.' Malcolm, vol. ii. p. 48.

(p. 74) amalu amalu. [H.] Authority, reign, sway, government. An office or post, a public charge. Execution, fulfilment, the period of one ruler's government. ఏలుబడి, దొరతనము, హయాము. అతని అమలులో in his reign or sway. ఆ కలెక్టరు గారి అమలులో in that Collector's days. ఆ తీర్పు అమలులోకి తేబడిన తరువాత after the decision was executed. వాని మీద అమలుచేసినారు they took steps against him, they put in force against him. అమల్దారుడు an Amildar, i.e., one who exercises authority. One who puts government orders into force. A Tahsildar or revenue officer in charge of Taluq.

(p. 74) amāni amānī. [H.] Land in charge of a revenue collector on the part of the government, as distinguished from that which is farmed out. అమానీగ్రామములు villages under the immediate care of a collector. ఆముఠా అమానీ అయిన తరువాత after the land was taken into the collector's own charge. ఆశ్రోత్రియమును అమానీదాఖలు చేసుకొన్న తరువాత after the land held on private tenure was taxed. అమానిభూములు Crown lands, lands that are in the hands of a collector on behalf of Government. అమానీబాజీబాబు sundry farms under a Collector's management. పన్ను లేకుండా మేడిపాలు ఇచ్చే భూమి.

(p. 75) amīnā amīnā. [H.] n. Ameen, a petty revenue officer.

(p. 80) ari ari. [Tel.] Affix denoting possession. నేర్పు skill, నేర్పరి skilful, సిగ్గు shame, సిగ్గరి timid. అరి ari. [Tel.] n. A bowstring. Tax, tribute. వింటినారి, ప్రజలవద్ద రాజులు మర్యాదకు పుచ్చుకొనేపాలు. అరివెట్టు to pay revenue. ఆరిగోరులు the share both of the government and of the inhabitants, i.e., the total produce. పుల్లరి tax on grazing lands. 'అరులుమిగుల గొనిరాజులు, నరులకు నెంతయును భయమొనర్తురు.' M. III. v. 302.

(p. 101) asandarbhamu a-sandarbhamu. [Skt.] n. Incongruity, inconvenience, unseasonableness. అసంగతము, అసమయము. అతడు లేనందున అట్లు చేయడానకు అసందర్భమైనది his absence prevented my doing so. అసందర్భము adj. Unconnected, inconvenient, unseasonable. అసమయమైన.

(p. 111) āṭaṅkamu āṭankamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, prevention, hindrance, resistance, difficulty. ఆటంకపరుచు āṭanka-paruṭsu. v. t. To object, prevent.
