(p. 530) tiru tiru. [A Tamil word for Skt. శ్రీ.] adj. Blessed or holy. (This is used in a variety of ways by Vaishṇavites.) తిరుకాపు tiru-kāpu. n. Adorning the god. దేవతనలంకరించుట. తిరుకొలను a sacred tank, పుష్కరిణి. తిరుచూర్ణము the sacred powder used to mark the forehead by the Vaishṇavites, శ్రీచూర్ణము, తిరునామము, వైష్ణవబొట్టు. తిరుమణి [మణి = మన్ను] the sacred earth, a kind of white clay used in making the sectarian mark (నామము). తిరుపగూడ a small basket in which the తిరుమణి and other things are kept. తిరుపతి tiru-pati. n. A town, Tripati తిరుమల. తిరుమజ్జినము tiru-majjanamu. n. The sacred bath given to an idol. దేవతాభిషేకము. తిరుమన్ను same as తిరుమణి. తిరుమాళిగ tiru-māḷiga. n. A Vaishṇavite's word for a house (వైష్ణవపరిభాష యందు) గృహము.

(p. 531) tirunīru or తిర్నీరు tiru-nīru. [Tel.] n. Sacred ashes used by the Saivites for their sectarian marks. శైవులు నొసటనుంచుకొనే గోమయపిండభస్ము, విభూతి. See తిరు.

(p. 906) boṭṭu boṭṭu. [Tel.] n. A drop. A sectarian mark on the forehead, white, yellow, black or scarlet, long or round. A gold spangle or patch in general. The gold piece attached to the marriage cord. (మంగళసూత్రము.) A three-pie piece. The grammatical sunna or circlet, representing N. or M. నిలువుబొట్టు or సోగబొట్టు the upright line or streak in the forehead which denotes the Vaishṇava sect. అడ్డబొట్టు the cross mark which denotes the Saivites. తాళిబొట్టు the sign of marriage, being a bit of gold tied on the bride's throat. బొట్టుకట్టు to tie the తాలిబొట్టు,i.e., to marry. గట్టిబొట్టు full sunna. నేతిబొట్టు a little ghee. 'తిరుపతి కొప్పులమదముగదీర్చిన బూడిదెబొట్టు, మంచిదేర్పరచినమించునట్టి రుదురాక్కల పేరులు.' S. iii. 99. ఎక్కడ ఉన్నా సరిగా బొట్టు పెట్టినట్టు చిక్కుచున్నది wherever it is, he finds it in a moment. బొట్టుదారము boṭṭu-dāramu. n. The string round the neck from which the tāli is suspended, మంగళసూత్రము.
