(p. 222) ?E0 The Sunna, anuswaram, or circle used for ణ, న, మ: as అండము aṇḍamu, an egg: సంతానము santānamu. Offspring: కంబు kambu, a shell. The half nasal 'ఁ' or semi circle is not used in modern Telugu, though some Pundits have made many efforts to introduce it.
(p. 222) ḥ The H, as in the words దుఃఖము duhkhamu, స్వతః swatak, or, swataha. It is denominated విసర్గ Visarga and pronounced Aha and is used only in Sanskrit words.
(p. 1) a a.1. The first letter of the Telugu alphabet as of many others. Hence the phrase అ ఆలు formed like the word 'alphabet' from the first two letters in the series, means the whole of the Tel. alphabet. See ఓనమాలు and వర్ణమాల. అకారము is the letter or sound of a, the term కారము being added to each letter in naming it. అకారాదిగా beginning with the letter అ seriatim, i.e., in alphabetical order. The letter అ has the same shape as the Eng. 'A' reversed. but is quite rounded off, and represents like its Semitic prototype 'the horns of an ox' (Taylor.) The stroke / called తలకట్టు tala-kaṭṭu and placed over many consonants is popularly, though by mistake as pointed out by Burnell, taken to be the secondary form of అ. The letter అ has the same sound as the Eng. a in 'around.' 'delta','Victoria. ' It is the 'low-back-wide vowel formed by the jaws, pharynx and lips wide open' and is supposed to be inherent in consonants -- e. g., in బ b, ల l, జ j.
(p. 1) a a. 4. [Tel.] A vocative suffix. తమ్ముడ = తమ్ముడు+అ = O (younger) brother! వనమ = వనమా. Usually the lengthened form is used, as రామా.
అంకుటము
(p. 3) aṅkuṭamu ankuṭamu. [Skt.] n. The crooked iron-bar used to open the gate of a pagoda, కుంచెకోల.
అంగడి
(p. 4) aṅgaḍi angadi. [Drav.] (Gen. అంగటి Loc. అంగట, plu. అంగళ్లు) n. A shop. అంగడిపెట్టు to open a shop. అంగళ్లవాడ range of shops. అంగట పోకార్చి selling in the shop. అంగడివీధి a market place. ఆ సంగతిని అంగడిలో పెట్టినాడు he revealed or exposed the matter.
అంగుళము
(p. 6) aṅguḷamu anguḷamu. [Skt.] n. The thumb (not used in Telugu.) An inch. అంగుళి anguḷi. [Skt.] n. A finger, or toe. వేలు. అంగుళిత్రము or అంగుళిత్రాణము anguḷitramu. [Skt.] n. A guard of leather of iron worn by archers on the thumb. అంగుళిమానము [Skt.] n. A measure with the fingers or arms; such as a span, a cubit, &c. అంగుళీయకము [Skt.] n. A finger ring. ఉంగరము
అంచత్
(p. 6) añcat anchat. [Skt. Used only in compounds.] a. Worshipping, revering, admiring. Adorning. Going.
అంచపదము
(p. 7) añcapadamu anṭsa-padamu. [From Skt. Not in use.] హంసపాదము or హంసపాది n. (lit. a swan's foot.) The mark used for 'caret.'
అంజనము
(p. 7) añjanamu anjanamu. [Skt.] n. Lamp-black, collyrium, eyesalve, the magic ointment used for the purpose of discovering anything that is concealed. కాటుక. అంజనకాడు a conjurer, he who finds that which is concealed by putting this ointment on his hand or on his eyelashes. అంజనమువేసి చూచు to search for hidden things.
అంటు
(p. 8) aṇṭu antu. [Tel.] n. Uncleanness, defilement by touch, impurity, such as is caused by the death of a relative, or by touching a lower caste man. Relationship. అంటుది an unclean woman. అంటుపడ్డాడు he was polluted, he became unclean. అంటుగా ఉండేయిల్లు. a house ceremonially polluted. మాకు రేపు అంటు (లేక, మైల) వదులును tomorrow we shall be free from [ceremonial] impurity. వానికనిమాకును మరేమి అంటుసంటు లేదు I have no connection with him. I have nothing to do with him.
అంటునూనె
(p. 1396) aṇṭunūne or అంటునూనియ anṭu-nūne. [Tel.] n. Oil used in bathing. తలంటుకొనుమంచినూనె.
అంతరంగము
(p. 10) antaraṅgamu anta-rangamu. [Skt.] n. The mind, the heart. కఠినాంతరంగుడు a hard hearted man. సంతుష్టాంతరంగుడు one whose heart is pleased. The middle, midst. Secrecy, privacy. అంతరంగపుమాట a secret. 'కల్యాణవేది కాంతరంగంబున నున్నయెడ.' N. 9. 126.
అంతా
(p. 13) antā antā. [Tel. Colloquial for అంతయును] adj. All, whole (always used after the noun,) as ఊరంతా all the town. adv. Completely, wholly, altogether. బొత్తిగా; n. యావత్తు, సమస్తము. అంతా ఆయనకు తెలుసును he knows everything.

(p. 16) ambarasā ambarasā. [M.] n. Expressed juice of ripe mangoes. మామిడిపండ్లరసము.
