(p. 108) āku āku. [Tel.] n. A leaf of any sort. A petal. పత్రము, దళము. A betel, or palmyra leaf; also the leaf on which the Hindus eat their food. విస్తరాకు An ear-ring. చెవి కమ్మ. Young rice (paddy) not yet transplanted. Any herb: young sprouts of corn. A flake as ఆకు ఉప్పు a flake of salt. Any filament. The radius or spoke of a wheel. The shutter of a blind. ఆకులతలుపు a venetian door. Also, a chit, note or short letter. చీటి; a loan bond. ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకోలు పత్రము. This word prefixed to others generally denotes green; as ఆకుతేలు a green scorpion, and ఆకుమిడత a green cricket. ఆడంగులకంటె మగవారు ఏడాకులు ఎక్కువ చదివినారు men have read seven pages further than women; that is, men are tenfold worse than women; or, are their masters in wickedness. నీ పేరు ఆకునపోకన అంటకుండా చెప్పుతాను. I shall mention (or use) your name with great caution. ఆకు అలము āku-alamu. n. Greens, herbs, vegetables. (The word అలము here has no definite sense.) ఆకుకూరలు or కూరాకులు āku-kūralu. n. Potherbs, garden stuff. ఆకు చాటున āku-ṭsāṭana. adj. In ambush, hidden, veiled, screened. ఆకుచిరుతపులి āku-chiruta-puli. n. A small species of leopard. ఆకుచిలక āku-chilaka. n. A butterfly, or a green parrot. ఆకుజెముడు āku-jemuḍu. n. The oleander-leaved spurge. Emphorbia Neriifolia. (See జెముడు.) ఆకుటిల్లు āku-ṭillu. n. A booth or hut of leaves, an arbor of leaves. ఆకుటింట in a booth. ఆకుతీగ the vine that produces the tamala (or betel) leaf. ఆకు తోట a betel garden: a garden in which plants are reared. ఆకుపచ్చ āku-paṭṭsa. n. The colour called sap green. ఆకుపత్రి చెట్టు āku-pattri-cheṭṭu. n. The clove tree. Cassia lignea. a certain game. (H. iii. 190). āka-rarugu. n. A green caterpillar. ఆకుపోత āku-pōta. n. Transplantation of a green crop. ఆకుపోయు āku-pōyu. v. a. To transplant corn. To set the sprouts. ఆకుమడి āku-maḍi. n. A field sown, but the sprouts of which are to be transplanted. (also, called నారుమడి.) ఆకుమడుపు āku-maḍupu. n. A roll of betel leaf. A mode of measurement. ఆకు మొలకాకు The self planting herb. ఆకురాయి āku-rāyi. n. A file (i.e., ఆకు a filament రాయు to rub off.) Also the name of a bird, the cuckoo (F.B.I.) బలుపాకురాయి or ముల్లాకురాయి (from ముల్లు a thorn) a rasp. కత్తి ఆకురాయి a sharp thin file for cutting combs. కమ్మి ఆకురాయి a very small file. వట్రనాకురాయి a three sided file.

(p. 122) āreboṭṭe āre-boṭṭe. [Tel.] n. The sharp claw that is on the back of a cock's leg. కోడి కాలి వేలికి వెనుకతట్టున సూదివలె మిక్కిలి వాడిగానుండే ఒంటిగోరు.

(p. 149) ukku ukku. [Tel.] n. Steel. Strength, courage, pride, vigour, potency. అయస్సారము, బలము, శౌర్యము. Steadiness. స్థైర్యము. తెలగ ఉక్కు. A very tough sort of steel. R. v. 197. ఉక్కు తీగె ukku-tīge. n. Steel wire. ఉక్కుతునక or ఉక్కుముక్క ukku-tunaka. n. A bit of steel, a brave, sharp or active man. ఉక్కు ముఖి ukku-mukhi. n. The crimson crested barbet, or coppersmith bird, Xantholaema haemaxtocephala. (F.B.I.) ఉక్కుసున్నము ukku-sunnamu. n. Ashes of calcined iron, scoriæ calx. ఉక్కడగించు or ఉక్కడచు ukkaḍaginṭsu. v. a. To crush one's pride, to humble: to dishearten. ఉక్కడగు ukkaḍagu. (ఉక్కు+అడగు) v. To sink or faint. To be disheartened. ఉక్కరి ukk-ari. (ఉక్కు+అరి) A man, a hero. శూరుడు, ధీరుడు. ఉక్కరు ukk-āru. (ఉక్కు+అరు) v. n. To ebb (as strength), to be exhausted, to faint. To lose one's vigour. ఉక్కుచెడు. To die. చచ్చు. ఉక్కరి having lost vigor. సామర్థ్యము లేకపోయి. ఉక్కుమడగు ukku-maḍagu. v. i. To lose vigor. To die. ఉక్కమడచు to kill.

(p. 226) kandi kandi. [Tel.] n. The grain called red gram. తనరి. Canjanusindicus, Pigeon Pea; No-eye (small form) or Congo-pea(large form) Dal or Cadjan Pea. Cytisus cadjan (Watts.) కందిపప్పు, See పప్పు. కందిపుల్లలు the stalks of the plant used us fuel. ఆమె కాలమునాటి కందివిత్తు she is like an old pigeon pea, i.e., she is as sharp as a needle. కందికంప thatch or straw of this plant. కందిమిడత kandi-midata. n. A locust.

(p. 228) kakkaramu kakkaramu. [Tel.] adj. Hard, or sharp కరుకు. n. Hardness.

(p. 228) kakku kakku. [Tel. from కరుకు] n. A notch. roughness: కక్కులు dents, notches: teeth: the rough part of a millstone or of a saw the toothed part of a file, sickle, or saw. కళ్లెకక్కులు teeth of a horse's bit. కక్కుపెట్టు kakku-peṭṭu. v. t. To set or sharpen a saw, &c. కక్కు వేయు kakku-veyu. v. t. To roughen, or set (a saw or mill stone.)

(p. 242) kannamu kannamu. [Tel.] n. A hole made by burglars through a wall. నేలకన్నము a way dug under a wall by thieves. BD. v. 701. కన్నపుకత్తి kannapu-katti. n. A housebreaker's wrench. A sharpened bar of iron to bore a hole through a wall. కన్నపుముట్టు or కన్నకోల kannapu-muṭṭu. A crowbar used in digging such a hole; called in thieves' slang, a jemmy, betty, or a rook. కన్నముపెట్టు or కన్నమువేయు kannamu-peṭṭu. v. n. To commit burglary, to dig through a wall.

Sharp, rough, harsh. కరుకుటమ్ములు sharp arrows. కరకెక్కు karak-ekku. To be rough. వాడికి కరుకెక్కించినారు they made him angry. కరకుడుమ్ము karaku-dummu. n. Caustic, lunar caustic. కారము చచ్చినపొగాకు tobacco devoid of flavour. కారము చచ్చినసున్నము lime devoid of heat. కారముగలసున్నము sharp lime. adj. Pungent, hot to the taste. A particle added to a letter in naming it. Thus కకారము the letter K. An affix denoting, making or doing, thus: ఝణఝణత్కారము resounding, making a ringing sound.
