To end, terminate. ముగించు. పర్యవస్థ pary-avastha. n. Quarrelling. విరోధించుట.

(p. 970) māṭa māṭa. [Tel.] n. A word, పదము. A promise, వాగ్దత్తము, ప్రతిజ్ఞావచనము. Slander, నింద. Opinion, rumour, వృత్తాంతము. అతడు నీ మాట చెప్పలేదు he did not speak of you. ఇది వేరే మాట this is another affair, another thing. వానిమాటకాదు this is not about him, I am not talking about him. గడియకు ఒకమాట చెప్పినాడు he changed his mind every hour. మంచిమాట (interj.) Very well. దాన్ని గురించి రెండో మాటలేదు there is no alternative. వారివిద్ద మాటలుపడినాడు he was reproached or reprimanded by them. In some phrases the word మాట need not be translated. Thus, ఆమె తిరిగీ వస్తున్నదనేమాట తెలిసి knowing that she would return. నేను దానిని కొన్నమాట రూఢి it is very true I bought it. ఆమాటే యెరుగను I know nothing of it. ఇందుచేత మాటవచ్చును by this you will get into disgrace. అతడు మాటతప్పలేదు he did not fail in his promise. మాట తప్పినవాడు మాలవాడు a promise breaker is a pariah, i.e., is a mean wretch. నేను పోయినమాట వానికి ఎట్లా తెలిసినది how did he know that I was gone? అతడు పోయేమాట ఉండేమాటా does he propose to go or stay? వాడు ఉండేమాట యింకా తెలియలేదు I do not as yet know that he will remain. మాటకుమాట word for word, literally. నా మాట అడుగుదాటకు transgress not my command. తనమీద మాటరాకుండా ఇట్లా చేసెను he did this to avoid blame. మాటవినుట to obey. ఎంతమాట what nonsense! వానిమాట వాని ఒడిలో వేసినాను I acted as he desired. నీకు మాట నాకు మూట a command is easy to give but hard to perform, or a word from you will make me rich. వెయ్యిమాటలేల why discuss it at length, in a word. ఆ పెండ్లి మాట యీ గ్రంథములో లేదు there is no mention of the marriage in this book నామాటవేరు, నీమాట వేరు I say one thing you say another, my opinion is different from yours, my case is quite different from yours. వానికి నాకు మాటలు లేవు he and I are not on speaking terms. వానితో నీకేమిమాటలు why do you speak with him? ఈమాట వింటే ఆయన యేమనును if he hears of this what will he say? కడపటిమాటయేమి what was the upshot of the business? ఇప్పట్లో వాని మాట సాగదు he has now no influence. కడకు వానిమాటే ముందరికివచ్చినది at last his words proved true. దానిని గురించి ఇంకా యేమాటా తెలియలేదు I do not yet know the result. మాటలకు పట్టుకొంటే విడవడు if he begins talking he will never stop. అదెక్కడిమాట what nonsense! such a thing is impossible. మాటలు మంచివే కాణి మనసు మంచిదికాదు he talks well but has a bad heart. ఇంకా మాటలు రాని బిడ్డ a child that cannot yet speak. వానికి ఆ ఊరిలో మాట వాసికద్దు లేక మాట సాగుతుంది he has influence in the town. ఆయన మాటకు ఎదురులేదు his word is law. మాటలకుమాత్రము పేదరికములేదు as far as words go he is rich enough. ఒక మాట యిచ్చి పదిమాటలు తీసుకొన్నాడు his reproaches were returned ten-fold. మాటకాడు māṭa-kāḍu. n. A good public speaker, సభయందు భయములేక మాటాడువాడు, వక్త. మాటకారి māṭa-kāri. n. A skilful speaker, యుక్తిగా మాటాడువాడు. A talkative person, వాచాలుడు. మాటలమారి māṭala-māri. n. A talkative person, మిక్కిలి మాటాడువాడు. మాటలాడు, మాటాడు or మాట్లాడు māṭa-l-āḍu. v. n. To speak, talk, converse, to reproach. నన్నెందుకు ఊరికె మాటలాడుతావు why reproach me for nothing? S. iii. 41.

(p. 1031) mēlu mēlu. [Tel.] n. Good, kindness. ఉపకారము. Good fortune, prosperity, favour, happiness, క్షేమము, శుభము. Profit, advantage, లాభము. Righteousness, పుణ్యము, సుకృతము. Excellence, superiority, విశేషము. Love, మోహము. Pride, మదము. 'చదువుల మేలులేదొ.' P. iv. 119. అక్కడికి పోతే మేలు it would be better to go there. అదేమేలు so much the better. మేలెరుగు to be grateful, remember kindness. కీడుమేలు తెలిసినవాడు one who knows good and evil. 'మేలుకలిగేవాడు in time of prosperity. 'తత్సుతశతకంబుకంటె నొక సూనృత వాక్యము మేలుభూవరా.' Bhārat మేలు or మేలి adj. Upper, higher. ఉపరి, అధికము, పై. Good, better. Noble, fine, excellent, superior, శుభమైన, శ్రేష్ఠమైన. మేలుమిద్దె an upper storey. 'లోపలియంతస్తులోని మేల్మిద్దె.' Sārang. D. 113. మేలుగోడ the top wall, battlement, parapet or rail wall. మేలుముసుకు the outer cover. మేలుమాట or మేలువార్త happy news. adv. Up, above, over, మేలు or మేలుమేలు interj. Well done! excellent! better and better! జయ, జయ జయ. మేలుకట్టు mēli-kaṭṭu. n. An awning, a canopy. వితానము. 'మేలిమిమీరగా మేలుకట్టులుగట్టు, రమణీయ చీనాంబరములుగట్టి.' N. ix. 124. మేలుకమ్మిచీర mēlu-kammi-chīra. n. A cotton cloth woven with a coloured border three inches broad. మేలుచెయ్యి mēlu-cheyyi. n. Superiority. హెచ్చు, ఆధిక్యము. adj. Superior, హెచ్చైన. One who is or sets an example; a paragon of excellence, an example, ఉదాహరణము. adj. Excellent, శ్రేష్ఠము, శ్రేష్ఠుడు, శ్రేష్ఠురాలు. 'మేదినీనాధులకునెల్ల మేలుబంతిగా బ్రవర్తింపకేల, దుష్కర్మివైతి.' Vish. ii. 116. 'నిజచరిత్రంబు భావిబూభుజులకెల్ల మేలుబంతిగవసుమతియేలుచుండె.' ib. vi. 63. మేలలుమచ్చు mēlu-maṭsṭsu. n. An upper storey, చంద్రశాల. మేలుమచ్చులు a kind of game played by boys. మేలురాసి mēlu rāṣi. n. The top part of a heap of winnowed grain. తూర్పెత్తిన ధాన్యపుసోగు. మేలువాడు mēlu-vāḍu. n. A lover, విటుడు, వలపుకాడు, మంచివాడు. 'అంతరాధకుమేలు వాడైమురారి.' A. v. 56.

(p. 1066) rava or రవ్వ rava. [Tel.] n. A small particle. అణువు. A bit, తునక. A diamond. వజ్రము. A kind of horse's pace, అశ్వగతి విశేషము గోదుమరవ soojee or roulong, i.e., coarse wheat flour. రవలు small shot, తుపాకిలో వేసికాల్చే సన్నగుండ్లు. adj. Thin, fine, సన్నము. రవనెల్లా rava-sellā. n. A fine woven vest of transparent muslin. సన్నసెల్లా, ఉల్లిపొరవంటిగుడ్డ. రవంత or రవ్వంత rav-anta. n. A little, just a trifle. కొంచెము, స్వల్పము. adj. or adv. Tiny, a little, somewhat, rather. రవంతకష్టము it is a little difficult. రవగాలు or రవాలు rava-gālu. n. The name of a certain pace in horsemanship. అశ్వగమనభేదము. 'సీ రవగాలునకు సాటిరాకగాడ్పుపటాణి పొదలు పిగ్గునబోయి పొదలుసొచ్చె.' URK. i. 78. రవన్ని or రవ్వన్ని rav-anni. adj. A few, కొన్ని. రవపాళము rava-pāḷamu. adj. Very thin, as cloth, మిక్కిలి సన్నపాటి. రవమంచము Same as సకినలమంచము. (q. v.)

(p. 1189) villu or విలు villu. [Tel.] n. A bow. ధనుస్సు. విల్లునమ్ములు or విల్లంబులు a bow and arrows. 'తేతే లక్ష్మణ విల్లునమ్ములును.' N. viii. 105. విల్లెక్కుపెట్టు to brace a bow. విల్లెక్కుదించు to unbrace a bow. Gen. sing. వింటి and the nom. plu. విండ్లు. నూరువిండ్లదూరములో a hundred bow-shots off. See విలు.

(p. 1219) vēṭu or వ్రేటు vēṭu. [Tel. from వేయు.] n. A blow, a stroke. A shot, the discharge of a gun or cannon, దెబ్బ, తాకు, తుపాకి మొదలైనవాటిని ఒకతేప కాల్చడము. 'నీతిగాని మాటరాతివేటు.' Vēma. 259. వేటుపాటు నడిపించిరి they began to fire. వేటుపాటు fighting, coming to blows. వేటులాడు or వేట్లాడు vēṭu-l-āḍu. v. n. To fight, to deal blows. కొట్లాడు. 'పువ్వు బంతులవేట్లాడి.'
