Necessity, occasion, want, need, desire, అగత్యము. అక్కరతీర్చు to relieve from want. అది నాకక్కరలేదు I do not want it. దీనితో నీకేమి అక్కర what have you to do with this? నీవక్కడికి రావలసిన అక్కరయేమి what business had you to come there? అక్కరకొద్దీ మాట్లాడుట to speak as necessity demands. అది అక్కరకురాదు it will be of no use. వాడికి ఆ పని అక్కరపట్టలేదు he does not care for it. అక్కరకాడు one who is in need. అక్కరగలవాడు; అక్కరగండడు one who has an interest in an affair. శ్రద్ధగలవాడు; అక్కరపడు, అక్కరగొను to feel an interest in a thing. అక్కరకలిగియుండు, అక్కరపాటు a state of necessity. అక్కరపడుట.

(p. 26) agramu agramu. [Skt.] n. End, point, tip, front, fore-part, top, peak, summit. adj. First, preliminary, chief, principal. అగ్రజ్యా (in astron.) the sine of the amplitude. అగ్రభాగము (astron.) degree of amplitude. అగ్రసారము a compendious method of counting immense numbers. అగ్రాంశువు the end of a ray of light, the focal point. జిహ్వాగ్రము the tip of the tongue. Similarly నాసికాగ్రము, నఖాగ్రము, &c. అగ్రగణ్యము adj. Estimable, conspicuous. శ్రేష్ఠమైన, అగ్రగణ్యుడు n. A chief, a leader. మొదట నెంచదగినవాడు అగ్రజంఘము the forepart of the thigh. అగ్రజన్ముడు n. A brahmin. Elder brother. అగ్రజుడు n. An elder brother. అన్న. అగ్రణి n. A leader.

(p. 29) accu aṭṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To be indebted, suffer loss. ఋణపడు, దండగపెట్టు నీకు నే వచ్చియున్నానా am I indebted to you? దానికి పదిరూపాయలు అచ్చినాను I lost ten rupees by that business. See. అచ్చిఉండు.

(p. 34) aḍati aḍati. [Hindi అర్హత్య.] n. Agency, commission, business done by an agent, consignment; అడతీదారుడు A broker, తరగరి; agent.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 54) anukūlamu anu-kūlamu. [Skt.] adj. Favourable, friendly, assisting, salubrious. హీతమైన, సహాయమైన, ఆరోగ్యమైన, శ్రేయస్కరమైన. అనుకూలమైన గాలి a favourable wind. వాని శరీరమునకు అనుకూలమైన స్థలము the place which agrees with him. అనుకూలమైనమాట a friendly word. అనుకూలశత్రువు a friendly enemy అనుకూల కాలము a suitable time. అనుకూలము or అనుకూలత n. Favour, goodness, kindness, aid. సహాయము, మేలు, దయ. దయ ద్రవ్యానుకూలము means, resource. దైవానుకూలము వల్ల by the grace of God. అనుకూలించు, అనుకూలపడు or అనుకూలమగు anukūlinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To be of use ఒదవు. To have effect, to have a good result. సఫలమగు, ఒనగూడు. అనుకూలము కాలేదు it failed, it had not the desired effect. నాకు ఇంకా రూకలు అనుకూల పడలేదు I have not yet obtained the money ఈ పని నీకు అనుకూలమగును you will succeed in this business. అనుకూలము చేయు or అనుకూలవరచు anukūlamuchēyu. v. a. To shew favour, to bring a thing about, to countenance. సహాయము చేయు, నెరవేర్చు. కార్యమును అనుకూలము చేసికొన్నారు they brought it about, brought it to a conclusion. అనుకూలుడు anukūluḍu. n. A friend, ally, patron. హితుడు, సహాయుడు, ఉపకారి. వాడు నాకు అనుకూలుడు he is well disposed towards me.

(p. 96) avasaramu avasaramu. [Skt.] n. Occasion, opportunity, వేళ, సమయము, కార్యోచిత సమయము. ఇది మూడో అవసరము this is the third time. 'చేరవచ్చు నయ్యవసరంబున,' T. iii. 39. అవసరము also means food offered as a meal to a god, or a kind of mantram said on the occasion. శ్రీరంగములో అరువై అవసరములు అరగింపు చేయుదురు they make an offering of sixty meals. Also necessity, urgency, hurry, flurry. అగత్యము, ఆతురము. అవసరమైనప్పుడు నిన్ని పిలిపించుకొంటాను I will send for you when necessary. అవసరము చేస్తే పని వెడిపోవును if you hurry the business will be spoiled. అది నాకు అవసరము లేదు. I have no occasion for this. అవసరము adj. Necessary, urgent, hurried, hasty. అగత్యమైన, అతురమైన, అవసరమైన పని urgent business. అవసరపడు avasara-paḍu. v. n. To hurry, to haste. అవసరముగా adv. Urgently, in haste. అగత్యముగా, ఆతురముగా, అవసరించు ava-sarinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To hurry, make haste. త్వరచేయు.

(p. 104) ahalekārulu a-hale-kārulu. [H.] Public servants, men of business.

(p. 109) āgu āgu. [Tel.] v. n. To stop, to stay, asbtain, refrain. To bear (as a cord does a weight.) To be confined, set aside, or reserved. ఆయింటను ఆగబడి యున్నదేవకి (B. X. 75.) Devaki who was kept in restraint. తల్లిదండ్రులులెని బాలురు ఆగ నీవు దిక్కు thou art the refuge of the helpless. పశువులకు ఆరినబీడు land set aside or reserved for pasture. ఇది లేనిది నాకు ఆగదు I cannot get on without this. నా నోటిలో ఆ మాట ఆగదు I cannot keep that word a secret. ఆగు, ఆగించు, ఆచు, ఆపు the causal of ఆగు: āgu. [Tel.] v. t. To stop, check, hinder. To keep, tend. To look to, superintend, guard, protect, preserve. To fold or gather as a flock. నోరాచి మాట్లాడిరి they spoke cautiously. చెయ్యి ఆపక (T. v. 22.) without intermission. నిద్ర ఆచుట to refrain from sleep, keep away drowsiness. రాత్రిళ్లు ఇక్కడ మందులు ఆచుకొని యుండేవారు they used to keep cattle here at nights.

(p. 113) ātma ātma. [Skt.] n. The soul, the living principle. జీవుడు. Self, the individual, a person. The body శరీరము. Nature. స్వభావము. Mind, intellect, reason, understanding. బుద్ధి, మనస్సు. పుణ్యాత్ముడు a pious minded man. పాపాత్ముడు a bad hearted man. God, spirit. ఆత్మ. adj. Own; peculiar. ఆత్మకము ātmakamu. adj Consisting of: as స్థావరజంగమాత్మకమైన consisting of real and personal goods. ఆత్మ కార్యములు private affairs, one's own business. ఆత్మజ or ఆత్మతనయ ātma-ja. n. One's own daughter. ఆత్మకుడు ātmakuḍu. [Skt.] adj. Formed of. అమృతాత్మకుడు one who has a sweet nature. ఆత్మగతమున ātama-gatamu-na. adj. Mentally, in the heart. ఆత్మఘాతకుడు ātmā-ghātakuḍu. n. A suicide or self murderer. ఆత్మజుడు ātma-juḍu. n. A son, as springing from oneself. ఆత్మజ్ఞుడు ātmagnyuḍu. n. A sage, who knows God and his own heart. ఆత్మనేపదము ātma-nē-padamu. n. The grammatical name for the middle voice in కొను; as వ్రాసికొను. ఆత్మవంచన ātma-vanchana. n. Self delusion. ఆత్మస్తుతి ātma-stuti. n. Self applause. ఆత్మార్థము ātmārthamu. adv. For oneself. ఆత్మీయము ātmīyamu. adj. One's own. తనది.

(p. 119) āyāsamu āyāsamu. [Skt.] n. Fatigue, trouble, uneasiness, vexation. శ్రమము. ఆయాసకరము āyāsa-karamu. adj. Vexatious or troublesome. ఆయాసపడు v. i. To toil, be wearied. శ్రమపడు, to grieve. ఆయాసపెట్టు v. a. To trouble, to plague, vex, harass.

(p. 137) ippuḍu ippuḍu. [Tel. ఈ+పొద్దు] n. Now, this time. ఇప్పటి of this time. ఇప్పటిపని the present business. ఇప్పటివాండ్లు the people of these days. ఇప్పుడే వచ్చినాడు he is just come.

(p. 139) ilākā ilākā. [H.] n. Interference. Relation, jurisdiction, connection by business, charge, possession. సంబంధము, అధికారము లోచేరిన ప్రదేశము, స్వాధీనము. మా యిలా కాదారులు, మా యిలాకావాళ్లు those who belong to me, my people. adj. Belonging to.

(p. 147) u . In poetry denotes a stanza in the metre named ఉత్పలమాల. The character ఉ. in common business is used as a contraction for ఉత్తరము an answer, as ప్ర. means a question.

(p. 161) upadravamu upa-dravamu. [Skt.] n. Trouble, annoyance, plague, affliction. Danger, injury, harm. అపాయము. ఉపద్రవపు పని a dangerous business.
