(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. (p. 41) atta atta. [Tel. borrowed by Skt. in dramas.] n. Father's sister, mother-in-law, maternal uncle's wife. అత్తమామూలు mother-in-law and father-in-law.

(p. 91) alluḍu alluḍu. [Tel. from అల్లు lit. one who plaits, i.e., who is the means by which the family circle is enlarged.] n. A son-in-law. జామాత, మేనల్లుడు the son of a man's sister, or of a woman's brother. అల్లుడుకొమాళ్లు n. plu. Foster brothers or vassals, who feed at the baron's table and form his body-guard. దొరతోదొరగా భోజనము చేసి అతనికి అంగరక్షకులుగా నుండేవారు. అల్లువాడు n. A son-in-law. అల్లుడు, జామాత. 'అల్లువాని మృతికి నాత్మజింతించును, తనయు మృతికి దానె తలచుచుండు, పుణ్యపురుషు మృతికి భూలోకజనులకు నుర్వి క్రుంగినట్టులుండు.' Vema. 1288.

(p. 98) aśanamu aṣanamu. [Skt.] n. Food, boiled rice, subsistence. అన్నము, భోజనము. ఆశనానికి లేనివాడై being without bread to eat. మాంసాశనుడు he who eats flesh. ఆశనాతురుడు. n. He who is hungry. క్షుథితుడు, ఆకలిగొన్నవాడు.

(p. 100) asaṅgatamu a-sangatamu. [Skt.] adj. Incoherent, incongruous, improbable, inconsistent. అసమంజసమైన, పొసగని, అసంగతము n. Incoherency, incongruity. పొసగమి.

(p. 101) asamañjasamu a-samanjasamu. [Skt.] adj. Bad, inconsistent. బాగుకాని, అసంగతమైన, అనుఫయుక్తమైన.

(p. 112) āḍu āḍu. [Tel.] adj. Female. ఇవి ఆడుమాటలు these are a woman's words. ఆడుచందము āḍuṭsandamu. The female shape, feminine disguise. B. viii. 445. ఆడుమొర A woman's shriek. R. v. 207. ఆడుతోడు āḍu-tōḍu. [Tel.] A female companion. ఆడుది āḍudi. A woman. ఆడుబిడ్డ āḍu-biḍḍa. A little girl. The sister of a woman's husband. ఆడుముండ āḍu-muṇḍa. An abusive word for a woman: equivalent to slut, jade, wretch. ఆడువీడు woman's town, a place without brave men. See ఆడ adj.

(p. 125) ālu ālu. [Tel.] n. A woman, a wife. (Genitive ఆలి. Pl. ఆండ్రు.) ఆలుమగడు man and wife, a married pair. ఆలివంకవారు a wife's kinsfolk. ఆలిసైదోడు a wife's brother or sister. ఇల్లాలు the housewife.
