(p. 18) aṃsamu amsamu. [Skt.] n. A shoulder, భుజశిరస్సు. అంసకూటము, a bull's hump. అంసపాదికట్టె a small forked prop which supports the woodwork on which a roof is laid. A small forked stake used at intervals to relieve the shoulders of those who bear a car, &c., in procession. అంసఫలకము, the upper part of the spine.

(p. 23) agarhitamu a-garhitamu. [Skt.] Undespised, unreproached, blameless.

(p. 26) agramu agramu. [Skt.] n. End, point, tip, front, fore-part, top, peak, summit. adj. First, preliminary, chief, principal. అగ్రజ్యా (in astron.) the sine of the amplitude. అగ్రభాగము (astron.) degree of amplitude. అగ్రసారము a compendious method of counting immense numbers. అగ్రాంశువు the end of a ray of light, the focal point. జిహ్వాగ్రము the tip of the tongue. Similarly నాసికాగ్రము, నఖాగ్రము, &c. అగ్రగణ్యము adj. Estimable, conspicuous. శ్రేష్ఠమైన, అగ్రగణ్యుడు n. A chief, a leader. మొదట నెంచదగినవాడు అగ్రజంఘము the forepart of the thigh. అగ్రజన్ముడు n. A brahmin. Elder brother. అగ్రజుడు n. An elder brother. అన్న. అగ్రణి n. A leader.

(p. 40) atithi atithi. [Skt. a=not, and tiḍhi -- day; hence lit. one who comes unexpectedly;] n. A guest, a stranger. పరగృహగతుడు. అతిథిదర్మము title to hospitality. అతిథిపూజ or అతిథిసత్కారము welcoming a guest, showing respect to a guest by ministering to his wants. అతిథిసేవ attention paid to a guest, hospitality.

(p. 43) adāvat adāvat. [H.] Enmity, hatred, spite. కార్పణ్యము, చలము.

(p. 43) adīnuḍu a-dīnuḍu. [Skt.] One who is not poor in spirit.

(p. 45) advandvuḍu a-dvandvuḍu. [Skt.] n. A philosopher, i.e., he who despises the pairs of opposites, such as heat and cold, good and evil, pleasure and pain, &c. నిస్సంగుడు. 'అందుండున్ ద్వయసద్మ పద్మవదనుండద్వంద్వుడ శ్రాంతయోగాంధూబద్ధ మధుర్విషద్విరదుడ న్వర్థాభిధానుండు.' A. i. 77.

(p. 45) adhamamu adhamamu. [Skt.] adj. Inferior; vile, low, despicable. నీచమైన. అధమంసేవకావృత్తిః servitude is the meanest work. నరాధములు the vilest of men. అధమాంగము = the lowest member of the body, the foot. అధమత్వము n. Inferiority, vileness. నీచత్వము. అధమాధమము adj. The basest, the worst, the lowest of the low. అతినీచమైన అధమాధముడు n. He who is the meanest of the mean, or basest of the base. మిక్కిలి నీచుడు. అధముడు adhamuḍu. n. A low fellow. నీచుడు.

(p. 48) adhyātmamu adhyātmamu. [Skt.] n. The soul; individuated spirit or that which belongs to, and presides over the body. The supreme spirit. జీవాత్మ, పరమాత్మ Also, Knowledge. జ్ఞానము. అధ్యాత్మ adj, Spiritual, belonging to spirit, inherent. ఆత్మసంబంధమైన. అధ్యాత్మజ్ఞానము knowledge of the Supreme spirit. అధ్యాత్మరామాయణము Ramayana explained as an allegory relating to the Supreme spirit. అధ్యాత్మికము or అధ్యాత్మికము adj. relating to the soul, spiritual.

(p. 50) anasūya an-asūya. [Skt.] n. Absence of spite, ill-will or envy.

(p. 51) anādaramu or అనాదరణ an-ādaramu. [Skt.] n. Disrespect, disregard, contempt, తిరస్కారము, అలక్ష్యము. అనాదరణచేయు disregard, to look with indifference, to despise.

(p. 57) anumānamu anu-mānamu. [Skt.] n, Surmise, conjecture, suspicion, doubt. In logic, inference. సందేహము, యుక్తి చేత నిర్ణయించడము. వాని మీద అనుమానము తోచినది, వాని మీద అనుమానమున్నది I suspect him. అనుమానఖండము Induction (logic.) అనుమానించు or అనుమానపడు anu-māninṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To doubt, hesitate, suspect. సందేహపడు.

(p. 75) amṛtamu a-mritamu. [Skt.] n. Nectar, ambrosia. Water, milk, clarified butter, the residue of a sacrifice. Final emancipation from matter and absorption in the Deity. సుధ, ఉదకము, దుగ్ధము, ఘృతము, యజ్ఞశేష ద్రవ్యము, మోక్షము, (వాడుకగా) మజ్జిగ. పంచామృతములు the five nectars, namely, water, milk, curds, ghee and honey. అమృతమునకు అంటులేదు nothing can defile buttermilk. వానిది అమృతహస్తము. he has a healing hand. వానిది అమృతవాక్కు his tongue is inspired. అమృతముహూర్తము n. An auspicious hour. శుభముహూర్తము. అమృతాంధసుడు n. One whose food is ambrosia, a god. దేవత. అమృతాంశువు n. That which gives forth soft beams of light, i.e., the Moon. చంద్రుడు.

(p. 78) araguṇḍetanamu ara-gunde-tanamu. [Tel.] n. Courage, spirit. గుండె, ధైర్యము. 'అద్దిర భక్తుని యరగుండెతనము.' BD. v. 207.

(p. 1397) araṇi araṇi. [Skt.] n. A plant which supplies the wood for this purpose, Prunna spinosa.
