(p. 108) āku āku. [Tel.] n. A leaf of any sort. A petal. పత్రము, దళము. A betel, or palmyra leaf; also the leaf on which the Hindus eat their food. విస్తరాకు An ear-ring. చెవి కమ్మ. Young rice (paddy) not yet transplanted. Any herb: young sprouts of corn. A flake as ఆకు ఉప్పు a flake of salt. Any filament. The radius or spoke of a wheel. The shutter of a blind. ఆకులతలుపు a venetian door. Also, a chit, note or short letter. చీటి; a loan bond. ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకోలు పత్రము. This word prefixed to others generally denotes green; as ఆకుతేలు a green scorpion, and ఆకుమిడత a green cricket. ఆడంగులకంటె మగవారు ఏడాకులు ఎక్కువ చదివినారు men have read seven pages further than women; that is, men are tenfold worse than women; or, are their masters in wickedness. నీ పేరు ఆకునపోకన అంటకుండా చెప్పుతాను. I shall mention (or use) your name with great caution. ఆకు అలము āku-alamu. n. Greens, herbs, vegetables. (The word అలము here has no definite sense.) ఆకుకూరలు or కూరాకులు āku-kūralu. n. Potherbs, garden stuff. ఆకు చాటున āku-ṭsāṭana. adj. In ambush, hidden, veiled, screened. ఆకుచిరుతపులి āku-chiruta-puli. n. A small species of leopard. ఆకుచిలక āku-chilaka. n. A butterfly, or a green parrot. ఆకుజెముడు āku-jemuḍu. n. The oleander-leaved spurge. Emphorbia Neriifolia. (See జెముడు.) ఆకుటిల్లు āku-ṭillu. n. A booth or hut of leaves, an arbor of leaves. ఆకుటింట in a booth. ఆకుతీగ the vine that produces the tamala (or betel) leaf. ఆకు తోట a betel garden: a garden in which plants are reared. ఆకుపచ్చ āku-paṭṭsa. n. The colour called sap green. ఆకుపత్రి చెట్టు āku-pattri-cheṭṭu. n. The clove tree. Cassia lignea. a certain game. (H. iii. 190). āka-rarugu. n. A green caterpillar. ఆకుపోత āku-pōta. n. Transplantation of a green crop. ఆకుపోయు āku-pōyu. v. a. To transplant corn. To set the sprouts. ఆకుమడి āku-maḍi. n. A field sown, but the sprouts of which are to be transplanted. (also, called నారుమడి.) ఆకుమడుపు āku-maḍupu. n. A roll of betel leaf. A mode of measurement. ఆకు మొలకాకు The self planting herb. ఆకురాయి āku-rāyi. n. A file (i.e., ఆకు a filament రాయు to rub off.) Also the name of a bird, the cuckoo (F.B.I.) బలుపాకురాయి or ముల్లాకురాయి (from ముల్లు a thorn) a rasp. కత్తి ఆకురాయి a sharp thin file for cutting combs. కమ్మి ఆకురాయి a very small file. వట్రనాకురాయి a three sided file.

(p. 111) āḍambaramu āḍambaramu. [Skt.] n. Pomp, grandeur. Vain display: abortive arrogance. The onset of battle: the charge; the sound of trumpets. యుద్ధవాద్యధ్వని. మేఘాడంబరము the display of clouds. ఆ యింట్లో ఏమో ఆడంబరము గానున్నది there is some stir in that house.

(p. 169) uruvaḍi uruvaḍi. [Tel.] n. Violence, impetuosity, speed, haste. ఉరవడి. ఉరువడించు uru-vaḍinṭsu. v. n. & a. To be energetic, to bully, to roar or thunder in talking. To flourish, shine forth, display. To gain, win, conquer. విజృంభించు, గెలుచు. 'ప్రజకనురాగమైన పరిపాలన శాంతియు సంగరంబునన్ విజిత విభీతమై యుగవడించుట యున్న్నృపధర్మముల్.' Appakavi. ii. 483.

(p. 174) ūḍucu ūḍuṭsu. [Tel.] v. a. To sweep. To slacken, loosen, divest, open, sever, separate. ఊడజేయు To wrest, take by force. To transplant. నారునాటు. To root out, to eradicate. ఉడుపు చేయించిన పొలము a field in which rice plants have been set (by transplanting.) తలలూడ్చె he smote off their heads. R. v. 275. ఊడుపు ūḍupu. n. Sweeping: ఊడ్చడము. transplanting. నారు నాటుట. ఊడుపుపొలము land in which shoots are transplanted.

(p. 238) kadalu or కదులు kadalu. [Tel.] v. n. To move, stir, move from or removed, to totter or shake, to be displaced or dislocated. To attempt, to try యత్నించు. To set out on a journey. ప్రయాణమగు. మోకాటి చిప్ప కదిలినది the knee joint is dislocated. n. Movement చలనము. Trail యత్నము. కదలుడు kadaluḍu. n. A journey ప్రయాణము. కదలించు, కదలుచు or కదల్చు kadalinṭsu. v. t. To move, stir, shake, jog: to mention కదలునట్లు చేయు, ప్రస్తావించు. కదలిక kadalika. n. Motion, stirring. చలనము. Trail, attempt యత్నము.

(p. 445) callu tsaliu. [Tel.] v. a. To sprinkle, to scatter. To water or irrigate, to sow. Also (metaphorically,) of a smile spreading over the face. కూటిలో మన్నుచల్లడము to throw earth in one's food, i.e., to take away one's bread, to ruin one. ఇంటిమీద నిప్పులుచల్లిరి they scattered fire on the house. మొక్కచల్లు to transplant corn. తోటకు నీళ్లు చల్లినారు they pumped water into the garden. ధూళిచల్లి sprinkling dust. చల్లుపోరాడు or చల్లులాడు tsallu-pōrāḍu. v. n. To fling water or dust at each other. R. I. 211. 186.

(p. 412) ciṭuku , చిటుక్కు or చిటుకుపొటుకు chiṭuku. [Tel.] (anuk.) n. A low soft sound, clicking, chirruping: a just audible sound, as the sound of the crack of the finger joints, a splashing, pattering, or dripping sound. చీమ చిటుక్కుమంటే నిద్రనుండి లేస్తాడు the sound of an ant will awake him. చీమ చిటుక్కుమంటే వినబడును the tread of an ant might have been heard. చిటుక్కుమ or చిటుక్కుమను chiṭukk-anu. v. n. To give a crackling sound like the sparks of a Leyden jar.

(p. 428) cedaru or చెదురు chedaru. [Tel.] v. n. To scatter; to be dispersed, dissipated, or spent. To splash, to be disordered, dishevelled. To fail or wander, as the mind or attention. To be dazzled. చంచలించు. చెదర గొట్టు chedara-goṭṭu. v. a. To disperse, rout, defeat. చెదరబడు. Same as చెదరు.

(p. 492) ḍabbu ḍabbu. [Tel.] n. A copper coin worth either three or four copper pies చిన్నమెత్తురాగిముద్ర. Cash, money దుడ్డు, Wealth ధనము. A colour or streak. Fiction, falsehood, guile. బొంకు. Display, lavishness. డబ్బుగల rich. పాతడబ్బు a coin worth four pies. కొత్తడబ్బు a copper coin worth three pies, a quarter anna. ఈ చీర అంచు డబ్బుగా (or డాబుగా) నున్నది it has a streaked or rich border. v. a. To make up, feign, fabricate. ఒకడబ్బుడబ్బి making up a story.

(p. 646) nāru nāru. [Tel.] n. A tender young sprout, or plant. Young plants kept to be transplanted. నారుమడి a field thickly set with grain to be afterwards transplanted. నారునప్ప a shoot, &c. (anuk.) నారుపాటలు nāru-pāṭalu. n. Common ballads or ditties regarding a fairy or goddess named నారు which presides over tender plants. నారుపోయు nāru-pōyu. v. n. To sow corn thickly, for the purpose of afterwards transplanting it. మిరపనారుపోసినారు they planted chilie seed in beds.

(p. 709) pammu or పంబు pammu. [Tel.] v. n. &a. To excel, to display, to cover, to spread. అతిశయించు, విజృంభించు, కవియు, ఆవరించుకొను, క్రమ్ముకొను. 'పౌజులుతగనేర్చిపమ్మిపోరాడ, బలములెక్కడివయ్య బ్రహ్మినాయునకు.' Pal. 294. '౛తరూచ్చి తారవజ్రాలలబమ్మినకమ్మి గ్రమ్మినమణి రథాంగములగములు.' Vasu. i. 63.

(p. 759) pisāḷamu pisāḷamu. [Tel.] n. Brilliance, వికాసము, ప్రకాశము. A jest, పరిహాసము. Spreading, వ్యాపనము. A trick, దొంగయెత్తు. పిసాళి pisāḷi. adj. Brilliant, తళతళమనే, ప్రకాశముగల. Spreading, వ్యాపనముగల. Artful, దొంగయెత్తుగల. 'సకియ క్రొందళుకు బిసాళి చూపులకోవు, ముగుదనిద్దవు ముద్దుమోముగోము.' Rasica. iii. 133. An artful or cunning person, కుత్సితపురుషుడు, స్త్రీయును. 'మొరసుమోటు పిసాళినామూఢుడు.' ABA. iii. 11. పిసాళించు pisāḷ-inṭsu. v. n. To be brilliant, to flash, to be displayed. తళతళలాడు, వెలుగు, విజృంభించు, మించు. To be fragrant, పరిమళించు. To spread, వ్యాపించు. To jest, పరిహాసములాడు. To pretend, దొంగయెత్తువేయు. 'సీ సద్యోవినిర్భిన్న సారంగనాభికా హృతమై పిసాళించుమృగమదంబు.' Swa. ii. 59. 'ద్వి కొడుకుకు విలపించుకొనుచు నీవున్న, నెడపకెవ్వరు సేతురీపనులెల్ల, చాలులేలెమ్ము పిసాళింపకనుచు.' HD. ii. 1906. టీ పిసాళింపకు, మాయచేయకు. v. a. To ridicule, పరిహసించు.

(p. 797) pēru pēru. [Tel.] n. A name, an appellation. నామము. Fame, celebrity, notoriety, కీర్తి. A long loose necklace, దండ. దొంగయని పేరుపడినాడు he is notorious as a thief. మంచివాడని పేరెత్తినాడు he is well known as a good man. నిన్నుకొట్టకుంటే నాపేరు రాయుడుకాదు if I do not beat you my name is not Rama. నానుపేరుగలకంఠి a kind of necklace. adj. Great, అధికము. Large, పెద్ద. పేరోడ a large ship. Vish. iii. 393. పేరెండ fierce sunshine. ib. vi. 304. పేరలుక great anger. T. iii.86. 119. పేరురము a broad breast. పేరెలుగెత్తి పలికిరి they spoke aloud. R. v. 220. పేరంగద a great misfortune, మహత్తైన ఆపద. పేరెలమి great joy. M. XIII. i. 242. పేరుంగరము pēr-ungaramu. n. A ring with one's name cut on it, a signet ring, పేరుచెక్కిన ఉంగరము, సిఖాఉంగరము. పేరు or పేరుకొను pēru. v. n. To congeal, curdle, harden or thicken, as melted butter or curds. ఘనీభవించు, దట్టమగు. పాలు పేరబెట్టినది she set the milk to curdle. To increase, అతిశయించు. పేరుకొను or పేర్కొను pēru Konu. v. a. To call one by his name to call, to utter. పేరుపెట్టి పిలుచు, పిలుచు, ఉచ్చరించు. To praise, స్థుతించు. 'భయకంపితద్గదకంఠనాదియై జనకునితల్లిబేరుకొని సంతతముల్ పరిదేననంబు మానని నృపకన్య నూరడిల నమ్మికమాటలు బల్కి.' Vish. vi. 220. పేరుకోలు pēru-kōlu. n. Calling one by his name, &c. పేరు గ్రుచ్చు or పేరుకూర్చు pēru-gruṭsṭsu. v. a. To call one by his name, పేరుపెట్టిపిలుచు. To tell to say, to mention. చెప్పు, ఉదహరించు. పేర or పేరట pēra. adv. In the name of, in one's name. By name. నా పేరట వ్రాసినాడు he wrote to my name, i.e., wrote to me. నా పూర్వులపేరట పుట్టినమాన్యము a grant made to my ancestors. తల్లి పేరట ఒక పల్లె కట్టెను he built a village in his mother's name. In translation into English we omit 'name.' దినాలపేరట in course of time. పేరి pēri. adj. Named, by name, videlicet, id est. పేరుగల, 'శాంత పేరికాంతాలలామ' a woman named Sānta. R. ii. 139. పేరిటి pēriṭi. adj. Directed to, bearing the superscription of, as అతని పేరిటి౛ాబు a letter for you. నీపేరటివాడు a man bearing your name. పేరుపెట్టు pēru-peṭṭu. v. n. To name, to give newly a name or appellation. పేర్వేర pēr-vēra. adv. Name by name. ప్రతిమనిషియొక్కయును పెరుపెట్టి. 'పేర్వేరబొమ్మల పెండ్లిండ్లు సేయుచు నబలలతో డవియ్యంబులందు.' B. X. 1818. (Rukmini kalyan.) పేరడవి pēr-aḍavi. (పేరు+అడవి.) n. A great forest, a wilderness. మహారణ్యము. పేరాముదము pēr-āmudamu. (పేరు+ఆముదము.) n. The large kind of castor oil tree, పెద్దాముదము as opposed to చిట్టాముదము, a smaller species. పేరోలగము pēr-ōlagamu. n. A great court, or assembly. నిండుసభ. పేరుడు pēruḍu. n. The act of congealing, or thickening. పేరుకొనుట, ఘనీభవించుట. పేరుచు or పేర్చు pēruṭsu. v. n. To excel, అతిశయించు, విజృంభించు. To pile, to heap up. To increase, to enlarge: to display. ఒకటిమీద నొఖటిని వరుసగాపెట్టు, విశేషింపజేయు. చితిపేర్చిరి they prepared a funeral pile. 'ఇనుమును రాగియు దగరంబును వెండియు బసిండియును, బ్రభూతములై పేర్చిన సిరిజేయగమోపెడు గనులెడసెడ పెక్కుగలవు శారవనాధా.' M. VI. i.50. పేరుపు or పేర్పు pērupu. n. The act of arranging things one over another, the act of heaping or piling up. ఒకటిమీద నొకటి పేర్చుట. A potsherd, కుండపెంకు. పేరుమాను n. A large tree, పెద్దమాను.

(p. 819) pōyu pōyu. [Tel.] v. n. To arise, to be born or produced, పుట్టు, చెమటపోయు to perspire, చెమటపట్టు. చీముపోయు to suppurate as a boil, చీముపట్టు. వానికి యింకా అమ్మవారు పోయలేదు he has never had the small-pox. v. a. To pour, as water. To cast in metal or found. To fit on, as a halter as ఉరిపోయు. To place an arrow in a bow (బాణమును) సంధించు or కూర్చు. అమ్మవారు నిన్న సేతులుపోసినది the small pox came to a head yesterday. కట్టపోసినారు they built a bank. నారుపోయు to sow seed, which is afterwards to be transplanted. ఆకుపోయు to transplant rice. గోడపెట్టి ముదురుపోసినాడు he built a wall and placed a cope upon it. తలబ్రాలు పోసినది she poured the blessed grain upon their heads (in marriage.) ఉచ్చపోయు to make water, to pass urine. వడపోయు or వడకట్టు to strain rice, &c. ఉరిపోయు to cast a noose. వృథాగా నా ఉసురుపోసుకొన్నాడు he has injured me without any cause. పురుడుపోసేనిమిత్తము దానిని పుట్టింటికి తీసుకొని వచ్చినారు they brought her home to lie in. వాడు దానిని నోట్లో పోసుకొన్నాడు he poured it into his mouth. ఆ చిన్నది వానిని నీళ్లు పోస్తున్నది the girl is bathing him. ఆమె చెట్లకు నీళ్లుపోస్తున్నది she is watering the trees. బిచ్చమెత్తి పొట్టపోసు కొంటున్నాడు he fills his belly by begging. ఆసుపోసినది she placed the thread in readiness for weaving. పోయించు pōyinṭsu. v. a. To cause to cast or pour; to erect. గట్టుపోయించు to raise a bank. విగ్రహములు పోయించిరి they had some statues cast.
