(p. 46) adhigatamu adhi-gatamu. [Skt.] adj. Known, found, acquired, obtained, gone through or over, perused, read, studied, అవగతమైన, ప్రాప్తమైన, చదువబడిన.

(p. 47) adhītamu adhītamu. [Skt.] adj. Studied. చదివిన. అధితి or అధీతుడు n. He who has read or studied the Vedas. వేదములను చదివినవాడు అనధీతుడు n. He who is unlearned in or ignorant of the Vedas.

(p. 47) adhyayanamu adhyayanamu. [Skt.] n. Study, reading, especially of the sacred books. గురుముఖాను పూర్వశ్రవణము, పఠనము, The word అధ్యయనము is commonly used for the study of the Vedas or for the Veda itself thus: ఆ చిన్నవాడు నాలుగేండ్ల నుంచి అధ్యయనము చేయుచున్నాడు the boy has been studying the Vedas for four years. నాకు అధ్యయనము రాదు I have not studied the Vedas.

(p. 305) kūsu kūsu. [Tel.] adj. Low, base, trifling. కూసుమతము a miserable sect, a degraded sect. కూసువిద్య idle studies. A proverb says, అభ్యాసముకూసువిద్య Practice makes every thing easy.

(p. 323) koladi or కొద్ది koladi. [Tel.] n. Extent, measure, height, depth, limit. పరిమితి. Means, mode. Power, glory. శక్యము. 'తలపుకొలది బడదు దైవికమేకాని' (Vēma) not according to our will but as god wills. నీకొలదియెరుంగక in ignorance of thy power. ఏకొలదినైనా by all means. ఆయన చిత్తము కొలదియెరింగి in conformity with his pleasure. L. XVII. 136. 'నోటికొలందుల మాట్లాడి.' L. VII. 481. saying anything that came into his mouth. As an affix, కొలది or కొద్ది. In proportion to, according to, in conformity to. నాలుగు ఏండ్లకొలది చదివిరి they studied for four years. మోకాలికొలది నీరు water up to the knee. ఈకొలది thus far, so much, such. 'గుడ్లకొలదిగ కన్నీరు గ్రుక్కుకొనుచు.' Suca. iii. 156. R. v. 187. M. XII. i. 242.

(p. 441) caduvu ṭsaduvu. [Tel.] v. a. To read, to study. చదువు n. Learning. చదువులు studies. చదువులబడి a school. చదువులయ్య a schoolmaster. చదువుకొను ṭsaduvu-konu. v. n. To learn. నేర్చుకొను. చదువుచెప్పు ṭsaduvu-cheppu. v. To teach. నేర్పు. చదువుల పులుగు ṭsaduvula-pulugu. n. The educated bird, i.e., a parrot, Bhase. § 70. చదువులవేల్పు the god of learning బ్రహ్మ. చదువరి chaduv-ari. n. One who reads, one who can read. A student, a learned man. చదివించు ṭsadi-vinṭsu. v. a. To make one read; to get some one to read. ఆ బాబును చదివించుకొంటిని I got the letter read to me. To get proclaimed what one presents to a bride or bride-groom on the occasion of their marriage. చదివింపులు ṭsadivimpulu. n. Homage or adoration accompanied with a certain recited formula.

(p. 914) brahma brahma. [Skt. బృహ్. (brih) to increase, Probably, the Indianised form of the name of 'Abraham', as బ్రహ్మము is of 'Abram,' the పితామహ of the Jewish race. Compare their stories.] n. The god Brahma, the operative creator of the world. ఇది బ్రహ్మభేద్యముగానున్నది this is invincible even to Brahma. వాడు వట్టి యంబ్రహ్మ he is a mere simpleton. There are said to be nine Brahmas, viz., భృగువు, పులస్త్యుడు, పులహుడు. అంగిరసుడు, అత్రి, క్రతువు, దక్షుడు, వసిష్ఠుడు, మరీచి. బ్రహ్మము brahmamu. n. The deity, పరమాత్మ. The Veda, వేదము. Meditation, తపము. బ్రహ్మకమ్మి brahma-kammi. n. The seam that goes down the middle of a sheet. బ్రహ్మచర్యము brahma-charyamu. n. The bachelor state. Abstinence from sexual intercourse. బ్రహ్మచారి brahma-chāri. n. A bachelor or novice: the title borne by a Brahmin during the period of religious instruction, which extends from childhood up to manhood, when he is married. బ్రహ్మచారిణి brahma-chāriṇi. n. A maiden that remains unmarried, a female novice: a woman leading a life of continence. బ్రహ్మచర్యమును అనుష్ఠించు స్త్రీ బ్రహ్మణ్యము Same as బ్రహ్మదారువు, గంగ రావిచెట్టు, (q. v.). adj. (p. 1228) vaidikamu vaidikamu. [Skt. from వేద.] adj. Pertaining to the Vedas; conformable to the Vedas. Canonical, clerical, sacred. వేదమందు చెప్పబడిన, లౌకికము కాని. n. Conformity to the Vedas; any sacred pursuit. ఇవేళ మాయింట్లో కొంచెము వైదికము a certain religious rite is to be celebrated in my house to-day. వాడు లౌకికవైదికములందు నిండా సమర్థుడు he is equally skilled in sacred and secular pursuits. వైదికవిద్యలు the sacred and secular pursuits. వైదికవిద్యలు the sacred studies. వైదికాగ్ని the sacred fire, i.e., fire on an altar, sacrificial fire as distinguished from లౌకికాగ్ని common fire. 'వినుమింతి వైదికంబును లౌకికంబును రెండు విధములు యజ్ఞ విధులు.' M. XIII. v. 192. వైదికలిపి or వైదికాక్షరము the clerkly hand, a round antique mode of writing like law-text. వైదికబ్రాహ్మణుడు a Vaidika Brahmin, i.e., one who is set apart for religious duties or studies; వైదికుడు vaidikuḍu. n. A Brahmin who knows the Vedas, వేదము తెలిసిన బ్రాహ్మణుడు. One who is engaged in sacred pursuits or studies. లౌకికుడుకానివాడు. One who does not know the world, లౌకికము తెలియనివాడు. ఇతడు శుద్ధవైదికుడు he is a very simple man.

(p. 1261) śraddha ṣraddha. [Skt.] n. Wish, desire, care, attention, diligence, zeal. ఆసక్తి. ఇచ్చ. Faith, devotion, attachment, విశ్వాసము. వానికి చదువులో శ్రద్ధలేదు he is not diligent in his studies. శ్రద్ధాళువు ṣraddh-āluvu. n. One who is faithful, zealous, eager, attentive, ఆసక్తిగలవాడు, ఇచ్ఛగలవాడు.

(p. 1368) snātakuḍu snātakuḍu. [Skt.] n. A Brahmin who is a householder, duly intiated after completing his studies. వివాహార్థముగా స్నాతకవ్రతము చేయువాడు, స్నానశీలవ్రతుడు, సమావర్తనముచేసి గృహస్థు అయినవాడు. If at the end of this period, he has not acquired a knowledge of the Vedas, he is called వ్రతస్నాతకుడు. If he has acquired this knowledge before the end of the period, he is called విద్యాస్నాతకుడు. If he finishes his studies with the expiration of the period, he is termed ఉభయస్నాతకుడు. స్నాతుడు snātuḍu. n. One who has bathed, స్నానము చేయువాడు, నీళ్లుపోసుకొన్నవాడు.' సుప్నాతులై.' M. XIII. iii. 102. స్నానము snānamu. n. Bathing, ablution, a bath. ముణగడము. కంఠస్నానము bathing all but the head. శిరస్న్సానము bathing the whole body. కటిస్నానము bathing up to the middle. స్నానఘట్టము a bathing place. ప్రాతస్న్సానము a morning bath. అభ్యంగస్నానము bathing after having anointed the head with oil. స్నానమైన తరువాత after bathing. కృతస్నానుడై having bathed. జ్ఞానస్నానము Christain baptism.
