(p. 222) ?E0 The Sunna, anuswaram, or circle used for ణ, న, మ: as అండము aṇḍamu, an egg: సంతానము santānamu. Offspring: కంబు kambu, a shell. The half nasal 'ఁ' or semi circle is not used in modern Telugu, though some Pundits have made many efforts to introduce it.

(p. 222) ḥ The H, as in the words దుఃఖము duhkhamu, స్వతః swatak, or, swataha. It is denominated విసర్గ Visarga and pronounced Aha and is used only in Sanskrit words.

(p. 6) aṅgili angili. [Tel.] n. The palate of the mouth. (Gen. అంగిటి. Ablative అంగిట.) అంగిటిలో వేసికొన్నాడు he swallowed it up. అంగిటిముల్లు [Tel.] n. The quinsy, inflammation of the trachea: a sore palate.

(p. 7) añca antsạ. [Vikriti of హంస.] n. A swan. అంచయాన a woman that walks as gracefully as a swan. అంచరవుతు Brahma who rides on a swan.

(p. 7) añcapadamu anṭsa-padamu. [From Skt. Not in use.] హంసపాదము or హంసపాది n. (lit. a swan's foot.) The mark used for 'caret.'

(p. 38) aḍḍamu or అడ్డమైన aḍḍamu. [Tel.] adj. Cross. నన్ను అడ్డమైన మాటలు ఆడినాడు he reviled me. అడ్డమైనకూళ్లు any food that comes to the hand. నాకు అడ్డమైనపని పెట్టుతున్నాడు he employs me in anything that comes to hand. వాడు అడ్డదోవలు తొక్కుచున్నాడు he goes the wrong way to work. అడ్డకట్ట aḍḍa-kaṭṭa. [Tel.] n. A dam or bank, an embankment. సేతువు, చేలకు నీళ్లు నిలిచేటందుకు కట్టిన గట్టు. అడ్డకత్తి aḍḍakatti. A broad sword. పట్టిసము. అడ్డకమ్మి aḍḍa-kammi. A cross piece, the cross selvage in cloth. అడ్డకర్ర aḍḍa-karra. A cross-piece of timber: an obstacle: a bar. విఘూతము. నా పనికి అడ్డకర్రలు వేయుచున్నాడు he throws difficulties in my way. See అడ్డము. అడ్డగోడ addagōḍa a cross-wall. అడ్డచాపు aḍḍa-tṣāpu. A cross beam. అడ్డవాసము. అడ్డతల aḍḍa-tala. A narrow projecting head: having a narrow fore head. నిడుపు తల. అడ్డదూలము aḍḍa-dūlamu. A cross beam. అడ్డదోవ aḍḍa-dōva. A crossway. అడ్డపలక aḍḍa-palaka. A cross plank. అడ్డపట్టె. aḍḍa-paṭṭe. A thick board drawn by two oxen used for smoothing a ploughed field after the grain is sown. మడిసమముచేసే మాను. అడ్డుపడు aḍḍa-paḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To interpose, to help; to obstruct, impede. విఘూతమగు, వారించు. నా పనికి అడ్డుపడ్డాడు he threw obstacles in my way. భార్యను కొట్టబోతే కొడుకు అడ్డుపడినాడు as he was going to strike his wife his son interposed. నేనడ్డపడకపోతే వాండ్లు వత్తురు had I not interposed they would have died. అడ్డపాటు aḍḍa-pāṭu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, obstruction. అడ్డి, విఘ్నము. అడ్డబాస aḍḍa-bāsa. n. A nose jewel. బులాకి. అడ్డబొట్టు aḍḍa-boṭṭu. A cross mark worn by the Hindus on their fore-head. అడ్డమాను aḍḍa-mānu. A cross bar. వాడు అడ్డవాట్లు వేస్తున్నాడు he throws impediments in the way.

(p. 47) adhyakṣuḍu adhyakshuḍu. [Skt.] n. A superintendent, an overseer. A bishop పైవిచారణచేయువాడు, అధికారి. అధ్యక్షత adhyakshata. [Skt.] n. Superintendence, sway. అధికారము.

(p. 74) amalu amalu. [H.] Authority, reign, sway, government. An office or post, a public charge. Execution, fulfilment, the period of one ruler's government. ఏలుబడి, దొరతనము, హయాము. అతని అమలులో in his reign or sway. ఆ కలెక్టరు గారి అమలులో in that Collector's days. ఆ తీర్పు అమలులోకి తేబడిన తరువాత after the decision was executed. వాని మీద అమలుచేసినారు they took steps against him, they put in force against him. అమల్దారుడు an Amildar, i.e., one who exercises authority. One who puts government orders into force. A Tahsildar or revenue officer in charge of Taluq.

(p. 81) aru Same as అర్రు (q. v.) అరుతెవులు aru-tevulu. n. Consumption. క్షయరోగము అరుత or అరుతన్ Loc. of అర్రు. On the neck. కంఠమునందు. 'ఆరుతలిమగము డదరసిచూడు.' Vema. 1777. అరుత or అర్త aruta. [Tel.] adv. Near, close by. సమీపమందు. రాముడు విశ్వామిత్రునరుత నేగెసె. Rama went close to Viswamitra. 'న్యగ్రోధములయర్తనరుగుచు మసలక దూడయమ్మందిర బరుత.' BD. viii. 515.

(p. 82) arupu or అరపు arupu. [Tel.] v. n. To remain or be left, to be saved, to be within one's power. దక్కు. అరపరాని unwiedly, not handy. అరపరానికడి a morsel too big to swallow. వాడు అరపరానికడిగానున్నాడు, అనగా, వాడు గుమ్మడికాయంత ముత్యముగానున్నాడు he is unwieldy.

(p. 146) īśvari īṣvari. n. The goddess Parvati, wife of Siva. ఈశ్వరీ or ఈశ్వరీచెట్టు worm-wood. నాగదమని. H. iv. 12. ఈశ్వరుడు īṣvaruḍu. n. Lord, king, the supreme ruler of the universe: God A name of Siva, especially in a compound, when the image meant is a linga, as Visvesvara, Rameswara, &c.

(p. 150) uccinta or ఉచ్చిత uchchinta. [Tel.] n. The gigantic swallowwort: a large kind of calotropis. HK. iii. 70. అలర్కశాకము. Rox. i. 571.

(p. 173) uste uste. [Tel.] n. The gigantic swallow wort. The fruit is called ఉస్తెకాయ. ఉస్తెపరుగు is the fruit dried and preserved.

(p. 1399) ōḍaṅgi ōḍangi. [Tel. from ఓడ.] n. A sailor, a boatman, boatswain. ఓడవాడు, పడవవాడు.

(p. 239) kaḍupu kadupu. [Tel.] n. A herd of cattle or flock of sheep. సమూహము, మంద. ఎనుపకదుపు a herd of buffaloes. పందికదుపు a herd of swine. లేటికదుపు a herd of antelopes. గూబకదుపు a flock of owls. చిలకకదుపు a flock of parrots. తేటికదుపు a swarm of bees.
