(p. 138) iruku iruku. [Tel.] n. A strait, difficulty, distress, narrowness. Closeness, contact. adj. Narrow, tight, squeezing. ఇరుకు v. n. To be squeezed, stuck in. ఇరుకటము or ఇరుకాటము irukaṭamu. n. A narrow place. ఇరుకుచోటు. ఇరుకుమాను iruku mānu. n. Posts set in a gate-way (i.e., పంగలకర్ర). to exclude cattle but admit men; a turnpike. ఇరికించు or ఇరికించుకొను irikinṭsu. v. a. To insert, poke in, stick in. ఇరికికొను or ఇరుక్కొను iriki-konu. v. n. To get in; stick, be caught, be inserted, be entangled.

(p. 149) uggu uggu. [Tel.] n. A mixture of castor oil and breastmilk given to infants. A wrinkle or plait in cloth. మడత. Confusion. ఉగ్గుపడు uggu-paḍu. v. i. To form into a fold. ముడతపడు. ఉగ్గులుపారు uggulu-pāru. v. n. To run into a knot in spinning or twisting, to be entangled, to run into wrinkles. మెలిపడు. To be confused or confounded.

(p. 258) kaliyu or కలియు kaliyu. [Tel.] v. n. To mix, join, mingle. To collect, assemble. To coalesce. To agree, correspond, match. To be included in, to fall under. To set to work, being to do. దిక్కులు కలియచూచి looking all round. దృష్టి కలిసినప్పుడు when our eyes met. అతనిభూమిలో కలిసినస్థలము a spot included in his land. ఆ దారి ఇక్కడ కలియుచున్నది that road meets here. సభ కలిపినది, or సభ కలిసిపోయినది the assembly has broken up or adjourned: కలియగలుపు kaliya-galupa n. Familiarity, affability. కలియగలుపుగానుండే familiar, easy, affable. కలియబడు kaliya-baḍu v. n. To meddle with. To rush, fall (upon enemies) వాండ్లు మామీద కలియబడ్డారు they rushed upon us. To become entangled. 'అరుతసరులుకలియంబడుచు.' B. viii. 457. కలియబెట్టు. kaliya-beṭṭu. v. a. To mix, to stir.

(p. 411) cikku or చిక్కుకొను chikku. [Tel.] v. n. To be found, to be caught, or ensnared. దొరకు. To remain, be left మిగులు. అది నాకు చిక్కినది I have got it. To stop or halt, to remain. వెనుకచిక్కు to remain behind, to fall in the rear. To grow thin or lean. కృశించు. చిక్కని సొమ్ముగానున్నది it is unattainable, it cannot be got. చిక్కించుకొను chikkinṭsu-konu. v. a. To get, obtain. చేతిలో చిక్కించుకొను to get into one's hands, to get hold of. వెతలచిక్కు to be seized with sorrow. ధైర్యము చిక్కనందున as I dared not do so. చిక్కినది the rest, the remainder. చిక్కిపోవు chikki-povu v. n. To become lean. చిక్కు n. A tangle, మెలి. A puzzle, perplexity, intricacy, confusion, entanglement, difficulty, distress, trouble. సంకటము, ఇబ్బంది. చిక్కులుపడు to be in distress or to get into difficulty సంకటపడు. చిక్కులబెట్టు to entangle, to involve, puzzle, to distress or harass; to pinch or stint. చిక్కతీయు to disentangle. చిక్కుగానున్నది it is puzzling. చిక్కుపడ్డ tangled or dishevelled as hair, చిక్కయిన. చిక్కుపాటు entanglement. చిక్కుపడుట, సంకటపడుట. చిక్కు adj. Puzzling, perplexing, entangled, intricate, confused, difficult, troublesome, baffled. చిక్కుజడలు tangled hair. చిక్కుకంపు a rancid smell (of oil .) చిక్కుతాళము. n. A lock with many wards, and which, like a patent lock, can only be opened by those who know it.

(p. 498) tantuvu tantuvu. [Skt.] n. A thread or fibre. నూలిపోగు. తంతుకాష్ఠము a spindle నూలువడికే కదురు. తంతుకీటము a silkworm పట్టుపరుగు. తంతునాగము tantu-nāgamu. n. A polypus or marine serpent supposed to entangle and drown swimmers. నెగడు. తంతునాభము tantu-nābhamu. [from తంతు a thread and నాభి the navel.] n. A spider. సాలెపురుగు. తంతువాయము a spider. తంతువాయుడు taṇtu-vāyuḍu. n. A weaver.

(p. 501) tagulu tagulu. [Tel.] v. a. & n. To happen, occur, turn up, appear. To belong to. appertain to, to come in contact with, to touch, hit, strike. To be caught; got, found, joined, entangled, understood. To be received (as a blow), incurred (as expense or punishment.) n. See under తగులము. ఆ యింటికి నిప్పుతగిలినది the house caught fire. ఇక్కడ గాలి తగులుచున్నది the wind strikes here, here we get the breeze. పెండ్లితగిలినది there was a marriage. ప్రయాణము తగిలినది he had occasion to make a journey. అక్కడ మంచినీళ్లు తగిలినవి there we found fresh water. వానికి దెబ్బతగిలినది he received a blow. కుండ కాలికి తగిలినది the pot touched my foot. ఓడ మెరకు తగిలినది the ship ran aground. వానికి రోగముతగలకుండ to prevent his catching the disease. అతనితిట్లు నాకు తగలలేదు his abuse did not affect me. ఇది వానిమనసునకు తగిలినది this was impressed upon his mind. వెంటతగులు to pursue. తగులుకొని వచ్చిరి they attacked, they followed. అడ్డముతగులు to oppose, to come in the way. పదిరూకలు తగిలినవి it cost ten cash. తగులుకొను tagulu-konu. v. n. To be involved or entangled with. చిక్కుకొను. To fall in love with. వలచు. To catch fire. అది వాణ్ని తగులుకొనిపోయినది she has gone off with him. ఆ యిల్లు తగులుకొన్నది the house caught fire. తగలబడు or తగులబడు tagala-baḍu. v. n. To burn or be set on fire. ఇల్లు తగలబడ్డది the house was burnt. తగలబెట్టు or తగులబెట్టు tagala-beṭṭu. v. a. To set fire to, to kindle, to burn అడివిని తగలబెట్టిరి they burned the forest. తగులుబడి tagulu-baḍi. n. Expense, charge, cost, outlay. పట్టుబడి. తగులుబాటు tagulu-bāṭu. n. Charge, cost, expense. తగులవడు to be caught. చిక్కు, పట్టుపడు.

(p. 506) tanakali tanakali. [Tel.] n. A tangle. చిక్కు, తనకలికొప్పు a tangled knot of hair. A difficulty, puzzle, చిక్కు, సంకటము. One who creates difficulties చిక్కులబెట్టువాడు.

(p. 508) tappu tappu. [Tel.] v. n. To err, fail, cease. To be lost, broken, changed, made void, or erroneous. దైవానుగ్రహము తప్పినందున through the divine favour being lost. To drop off, as a shackle. To go off, abate, as a pain. రేపుతప్పినది the ford is missed. అడుగులో పిడుగుతిప్పు a great mistake in a short space. ఆయువుతప్పినవాడయినాడు he declined into the vale of years. v. a. To transgress, to miss. తప్పుచేయు, అతిక్రమించు. దినము తప్పుదినము every other day, missing one day in turn. ఒకటితప్పి ఒకటి one now and then; here and there one. తప్పివచ్చినపని a thing that happened unexpectedly, or out of the common way. మాటతప్పు to break one's word or promise. తప్పక tappaka. adv. Unfailingly, steadfastly, steadily, certainly, surely. తప్పచూచు tappa-ṭsūṭsu. v. t. To disregard. దైవము తప్ప చూచినందున as God withdrew his favour. తప్పు or తప్పితము or తప్పిదము. (తప్పు+ఇతము or ఇదము.) n. An error, fault, mistake, offence. తప్పుపలుకు to say what is wrong or false. తప్పులుపట్టు to find fault with, to cavil. adj. Erroneous, mistaken, faulty, wrong. Foul or entangled. తప్పుకూడు unlawful food. తప్పుటడుగులు పెట్టు to stagger or totter as an infant. తప్పుదారి or తప్పుదోవ a wrong road. తప్పించు tappinṭsu. v. a. To extricate, to set free విడిపించు. To take away, remove, lose, shift, alter. తాడు తప్పించుట to get the cord free, to extricate it. నా జీవనము తప్పించినాడు he took away my living. To elude ముఖము తప్పించు to abscond. To cause to cross over, pass by, transgress, depart from (an agreement.) దోవతప్పించినాడు he misled me. తప్పించుకొను tappinṭsu-konu. v. n. To get free, to escape. ప్రాణము తప్పించుకొని వస్తిని I escaped with my life. తప్పుడు or తప్పుదల. tappuḍu. n. Missing, making a mistake తప్పుట. తప్పుడు adj. Wrong తప్పైన. తప్పుడుపడు or తప్పుపడు to make a mistake సరితప్పు.

(p. 612) doraku Same as దొరుకు (q. v.) దొరకు పడు doraku-paḍu. v. n. To be caught or entangled. చిక్కుకొను. దొరకొను dora-konu. (దొరకు+కొను.) v. n. and a. To be found. లభించు, చిక్కు. (p. 671) nuli nuli. [Tel.] n. A twist, a tangle. మెలి. A griping or gnawing pain in the stomach. పేగులలోనొప్పి. వానికి నులిపెట్టినది he had the gripes. నులిపురుగులు worms in the bowels. adj. Gentle, slight. Small, స్వల్పమైన, అల్పము. Thus నులికాలువ A small stream. A. ii. 72. vi. 17. నులివెచ్చగా slightly warm, lukewarm. నులినొప్పి a slight griping pain, నులివాళ్లు nuli-vāḷḷu. n. A slight withering. కొంచెము వాడిపోవుటలు. నులివాళ్లువాడు to wither slightly, కొంచెమువాడు. నులిగొను nuli-gonu. v. n. To be twisted, to be tangled. చిక్కుపడు. నులిపెట్టు nuli-peṭṭu. v. a. To twist. మెలిపెట్టు, చిక్కుపెట్టు. నులిగడ or నులితడ nuligaḍa. n. A medicinal plant, having a capsule consisting of fine fibres twisted in the form of a screw, Helicteres idora. To tread out, corn with oxen, to thrash corn, నులియజేయు, నులుగు nulugu. v. n. To be crushed, ground, trodden. నలుగు.

(p. 674) negaḍu or నపడు negaḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To increase; to extend, to spread. వర్ధిల్లు, వెలయు. ఆ గ్రామము నెగడి కసుబా అయినది the village has enlarged and become a town. n. A polypus, or marine animal (మకరము), supposed to entangle swimmers. జలగ్రహము. The red sea weed, (tangle or dulse.) తంతునాగము. నెగడుపడిన clogged, trammelled. నెగడు కొట్టినట్టు ఉన్నారు they appeared to be astounded. నెగడించు negaḍinṭsu. v. a. To spread, to extend, as fame, &c.

(p. 733) pācu pāṭsu. [Tel. Causal of పాయు.] v. a. To remove out of the way. తొలగించు, పాయజేయు. To disentangle, చిక్కెడలించు.

The twisting or turns of a channel. మలకతపసి a wily monk. కుటిలమని. 'మలక లు మాప్రచారములు మాముఖముల్ విషవహ్నికీలముల్.' B. X. §. 16, 66. A Mahomedan, తురక. An earthen lid over a pot, మూకుడు. adj.
