(p. 221) aupaniṣada aupanishada. [Skt. from ఉపనిషత్తు.] adj. Belonging to the Upanishads. Scriptural, theological. ఔపనిషదుడు aupanishaduḍu. n. One who knows the Upanishads.

(p. 535) tīrthamu tīrthamu. [Skt.] n. Water. ఉదకము. Holy or sacred water. పుణ్యోదశము. A holy place. పుణ్యక్షేత్రము. తీర్థమాడు to bathe స్నానముచేయు; to be brought to bed. తీర్థము ఇప్పించు to swear a witness; because the oath is administered with holy water. తీర్థయాత్రపోవు to go on pilgrimage. In theological works తీర్థము means salvation, మోక్షము and కుతీర్థము is false doctrine. తీర్థమాడుట or తీర్థమాట tīrtham-āḍuṭa. n. Bathing. స్నానము. తీర్థవాసి tīrtha-vāsi. n. A pilgrim. తీర్థసేవచేయువాడు. తీర్థీకరించు tīrthī-karinṭsu. v. a. To sanctify, hallow, purify.

(p. 838) pravartakuḍu pra-vartakuḍu. [Skt.] n. One who carries on or manages, నడపువాడు. The original instigator or author of an act, the doer. A manager, or superintendent. కారకుడు, అధికారి. గ్రామప్రవర్తకుడు the manager or agent of a village. ఉభయవేదాంతవర్తకులయిన he who cultivates both systems of theology. ప్రవర్తన or ప్రవర్తనము pra-vartana. n. Conduct, behaviour, నడత, ఆచారము. ప్రవర్తమానము pra-varta-mānamu. adj. Currnet, as a year. నడుచుచున్న. ప్రవర్తించు or ప్రవర్తిల్లు pra-varṭinṭsu. v. n. To behave, go on, conduct oneself. దుర్మార్గముగా ప్రవర్తించుచున్నాడు he behaves very ill.

(p. 919) bhavamu bhavamu. [Skt.] n. Being, existence, subsistence. Earthly or corporeal existence. The condition of being on earth. Birth as a mortal, పుట్టుక, భవదూరుడు immortal, released from the bonds of the flesh; free from mortal birth. In theology, sin, the sinful state, or mortality are subject to sin, సంసారము. భవబంధములు earthly ties, as those of kindred. భవదుఃఖములు the ills of human life. భవమోక్షణము a release from mortal life. M. XIII. v. 410. adj. In composition, arising from, produced or caused by. భవాండము bhav-ānḍamu. n. The world. బ్రహ్మాండము.

(p. 976) māya māya. [Skt.] n. Fraud, trick, deceit, delusion, illusion, diplomacy. Conjuring, ఇంద్రజాలవిద్య. Ignorance, ఆవిద్య. Philosophical illusion, the phenomenal-world, unreality of all worldly existence. This is personified in mythology as Lakshmi, the consort of Vishṇu, she being the immediate and active cause of creation. మాయప్రపంచము the delusive world. 'Vanity' in the theological sense: materiality as distinguished from intellectuality. మాయలాడి a deceitful woman. వనితలు మాయావినోదులైనందున as women are deceivers. M. XIII. ii. 189. మాయాస్వరూపము a fictitious form. మాయగొల్లడు a seeming herdsman, i.e., Krishna, who bore the appearance of a rustic. మాయదారిగా unexpectedly, by stealth or trick, cunningly. మాయకాడు. మాయగాడు, మాయదారి or మాయపోతు a deceiver, మాయావి. మాయాదేవి māyādēvi. n. Nature, regarded as a goddess. మాయాదేవి సుతుడు a name of Buddha. మాయానగరము the place called Haridvara. మాయము māyamu. n. Same as మాయ. Disappearance, అదృశ్యము. adj. Vanished, disappeared. మాయమగు to vanish. ఉంగరము మాయమైపోయినది the ring disappeared. వారు మాయమైపోయిరి they vanished. ఆ పాము మాయమైపోయినది the snake disappeared. ఇది యేమిమాయము this is a strange trick. మాయలాడు māyal-āḍu. n. A rogue. మాయలుచేయుపురుషుడు. మాయావి, మాయి. మాయలమారి or మాయికుడు māyāvi. n. A cheat, a deceiver, a juggler, a conjurer. ఐంద్రజాలికుడు. మాయలుచేయు పురుషుడు. మాయి māyi. n. Concealment. మరుగు. (p. 1221) vēdamu vēdamu. [Skt. √ vid. to know.] n. Knowledge, art, science, విద్య, జ్ఞానము. Divine knowledge or science, the sacred or inspired writings. The Veda or sacred books of the Hindus. బ్రహ్మముఖమందు పుట్టినచదువు, శ్రుతి, శాస్త్రము. వాడు చెప్పినది వేదము all he said was taken for gospel. వేదమూర్తులైన his reverence, his holiness, a title given to learned theologians. ధనుర్వేదము the art of the bow, i.e., archery. వేదశాస్త్రము vēda-ṣāṣtramu. n. The Vedanta or philosophical portion of the Hindu Scriptures. వేదాంతము. వేదాంగములు vēd-āngamulu. n. plu. The sciences dependant on or auxiliary to the Vēdas. వ్యాకరణాదులైన షట్ఛాస్త్రములు.
