(p. 222) ?E0 The Sunna, anuswaram, or circle used for ణ, న, మ: as అండము aṇḍamu, an egg: సంతానము santānamu. Offspring: కంబు kambu, a shell. The half nasal 'ఁ' or semi circle is not used in modern Telugu, though some Pundits have made many efforts to introduce it.

(p. 1) a a.1. The first letter of the Telugu alphabet as of many others. Hence the phrase అ ఆలు formed like the word 'alphabet' from the first two letters in the series, means the whole of the Tel. alphabet. See ఓనమాలు and వర్ణమాల. అకారము is the letter or sound of a, the term కారము being added to each letter in naming it. అకారాదిగా beginning with the letter అ seriatim, i.e., in alphabetical order. The letter అ has the same shape as the Eng. 'A' reversed. but is quite rounded off, and represents like its Semitic prototype 'the horns of an ox' (Taylor.) The stroke / called తలకట్టు tala-kaṭṭu and placed over many consonants is popularly, though by mistake as pointed out by Burnell, taken to be the secondary form of అ. The letter అ has the same sound as the Eng. a in 'around.' 'delta','Victoria. ' It is the 'low-back-wide vowel formed by the jaws, pharynx and lips wide open' and is supposed to be inherent in consonants -- e. g., in బ b, ల l, జ j.

(p. 1) a a. 7. [Tel.] A suffix meaning 'By oneself without the help of another'. సర్వమును నీవ యెరుగుదువు. Or, without a rival, e. g., 'శత్రుక్షయంబు చేసి యెవ్వరికి నీక తామ యేలు చుండెమనియెడి మోహంబున.' భాగ. xii 18.

(p. 3) aṅkuriñcu ankurinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To sprout, break forth, emanate, rise as a thought. పెదవిమీదలేనగవంకురింప with a smile on the lips.

(p. 9) anta anta. [Tel.] n. Whole; adj. So much. adv. Then, afterwards. నీ వెంత అడిగితే అంత యిస్తాను I will give you as much as you ask. అంతకంటె then that. అంతకంత as much again. అంతకంతకు by degrees; more and more. అంతకుముందు before that. అంతమంది so many men. అంత. మందిలో among so many persons. అంతమట్టుకు so far, thus far. అంతమాత్రము only so much అంతసేపు so long. అంతలో in the mean time. మూడంతలు three times as much. అక్కడికి పోయినంతలో on his going there. వాడు తనంతనే వచ్చినాడు he came of his own accord. అంతవాడు లేడు. there never was such a man. రాజంతవాడవు thou art equal to the king. నాయంతవాడు my equal, one like me one as tall as I am. అంతే అవును. that probably is the case నిద్రలేచినంతలో when he rose from sleep, as soon as he awoke. నేను తెలిసికొన్నంత as much as I know అంతపని such an act.

(p. 10) antaratāmara antara-tāmara. [Tel.] n. A water plant, without any root to the ground, swimming upon the surface of the lakes, &c. Pistia stratiotes. Menyanthes cristata (Roxb). ఆకాశతామర. అంతరతామర also means the itch. గజ్జి.

(p. 11) antarmukhuḍu antarmukhuḍu. [Skt.] n. He who has an inner eye, (that is) wise though seeming dull. నిపురుగప్పిన నిప్పువలె నుండేవాడు.

(p. 18) akasmāttugā akasmāttu-gā. [Skt.] adv. By chance, suddenly, unexpectedly. హటాత్తుగా, without a why or wherefore.

(p. 19) akāraṇamu a-kāraṇamu. [Skt.] adj. Groundless, causeless. నిర్హేతుకమైన. అకారణముగా without a reason. అకారణోత్పన్నము produced spontaneously. అకారత్ (H. incorrect form of అకారణముగా) without cause నిర్హేతుకముగా, ఊరక.

(p. 27) acintyamu a-chintyamu. [Skt.] adj. Incomprehensible, not to be thought of. అప్రమేయమైన, విచారింప శక్యముకాని.

(p. 27) acca aṭṭsa [Tel.] adj. Pure, real, unmixed. అచ్చ తెనుగు Telugu without foreign words. అచ్చగుండ్ల పేరు a necklace of pure beads.

(p. 27) accamugā aṭṭsamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Purely, without any mixture. నిర్మలముగా.

(p. 30) ajñānamu a-gnyānamu. [Skt.] n. Ignorance. అవివేకము, మూఢత్వము. అజ్ఞానబంధములు the fetters of ignorance. అజ్ఞాని a-gnyāni. [Skt.] n. An ignorant person, a person without knowledge. 'ఆచారమెరుగని అజ్ఞాని నేను.'

(p. 30) ajñuḍu agnyuḍu. [Skt.] n. An ignorant person, one without knowledge.

(p. 30) aṭa ata. [Tel.] or అంట (contraction of అంటున్నారు they say) It is said, they say. వాడు వచ్చెనట they say he is come. రావటే for రావటవే, i.e., రానంటావే యేమే what, will you not come? కోపమటే, i.e., కోపమాయేమే what, are you angry? బాలుడటేనాడు what! do you call him a child? అటరా is a contraction for అంటావురా dost thou say so?
