A dance, hop, jig. చిందాడు or చిందులుతొక్కు to dance, or tread a measure. చిందుపరువు a dance. (p. 412) ciṭuku , చిటుక్కు or చిటుకుపొటుకు chiṭuku. [Tel.] (anuk.) n. A low soft sound, clicking, chirruping: a just audible sound, as the sound of the crack of the finger joints, a splashing, pattering, or dripping sound. చీమ చిటుక్కుమంటే నిద్రనుండి లేస్తాడు the sound of an ant will awake him. చీమ చిటుక్కుమంటే వినబడును the tread of an ant might have been heard. చిటుక్కుమ or చిటుక్కుమను chiṭukk-anu. v. n. To give a crackling sound like the sparks of a Leyden jar.

(p. 557) tokku or త్రొక్కు tokku. [Tel.] v. n. & a. To step, tread, or perform a dance, అణగదొక్కుట (A. ii. 104.) to pound, stamp, trample on, crush, macerate. పొరుగిల్లుతొక్కక not entering your neighbour's house. పొలిమేరతొక్కు to lay down or define a boundary line by treading on it. కొమ్మతొక్కు to lay down suckers or branches from a tree. తొక్కిచూచు to go and examine in person: to inspect personally. దిగదొక్కు to blink or put out of view, to suppress. తొక్కు. n. Paste, pickle. తొక్కించు or త్రొక్కించు tok-kinṭsu. v. a. To cause to tread, &c. నాట్యము తొక్కించినారు they made him dance. చింతకాయలు తొక్కించిరి they had the tamarind pounded. తొక్కు or తొక్కుడు tokkudu. n. Treading, grinding, dancing, capering, ఇరుకాటము, సమ్మర్ధము, రాపిడి, రారాపు. R. i. 46. Plu: త్రొక్కుళ్లు. P. iii. 76. adj Threshed, pounded తొక్కిన. తొక్కుడుకమ్మి tokkuḍu-kammi. n. A threshold. దొడ్డి తొక్కుకొనిపోయినది it broke out of the fold. తొక్కుపలుకులు lisping words. బిడ్డలువచ్చీరాక అదేమాటలు. తొక్కుడుబిళ్లలు tokkuḍu-biḷḷalu. n. A certain game. తొక్కులాడు tokku-l-āḍu. v. n. To grieve, to be in trouble. తొక్కులాడుచునడుచుట to trudge on, plod, to get on with difficulty.

(p. 573) trokku or తొక్కు trokku. [Tel.] v. n. To tread, to trample. త్రొక్కుడు, తొక్కుడు, త్రొక్కట, తొక్కటము or తొక్కట trokkuḍu. n. Trampling. తొక్కుట. Danger ఆపద. త్రొక్కుడుపడు, త్రొకుపడు, త్రొక్కుటపడు, తొక్కుడుపడు or తొక్కుటపడు trokkuḍu-paḍu. v. n. To be trampled upon. త్రొక్కటపారు or త్రొక్కటపాటు trokkaṭa-pāṭu. n. The act of being trampled upon. తొక్కుడుపడుట. త్రొక్కుడుకమ్మి or తొక్కుడుకమ్మి trokkuḍu-kammi. n. The threshold. గడప. త్రొక్కుడుపట్టె Same as తొక్కుడు కమ్మి. Also a plank of wood which a weaver treads upon while weaving a cloth. త్రొక్కుడుబిళ్ల or తొక్కుడుబిళ్ల trokkuḍu-biḷḷa. n. A certain game played by children.

(p. 671) nuli nuli. [Tel.] n. A twist, a tangle. మెలి. A griping or gnawing pain in the stomach. పేగులలోనొప్పి. వానికి నులిపెట్టినది he had the gripes. నులిపురుగులు worms in the bowels. adj. Gentle, slight. Small, స్వల్పమైన, అల్పము. Thus నులికాలువ A small stream. A. ii. 72. vi. 17. నులివెచ్చగా slightly warm, lukewarm. నులినొప్పి a slight griping pain, నులివాళ్లు nuli-vāḷḷu. n. A slight withering. కొంచెము వాడిపోవుటలు. నులివాళ్లువాడు to wither slightly, కొంచెమువాడు. నులిగొను nuli-gonu. v. n. To be twisted, to be tangled. చిక్కుపడు. నులిపెట్టు nuli-peṭṭu. v. a. (p. 701) paḍu paḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To feel, To fall, పతనమగు, రాలు. To lie down, శయనించు. To be, to occur, or happen, సంభవించు, కలుగు. To be caught in a snare. To suffer pain, శ్రమమొందు. To be killed in battle. చచ్చు. To be buried, as money, పూడు. To set, అస్తమించు. v. a. To experience, అనుభవించు. To incur, undergo, enjoy, feel, పొందు. నేను పడిన బాధ నాకే తెలుసును I alone know what I have suffered. Added to nouns it forms them into verbs. సమ్మతిపడు to agree. సంతోషపడు to be pleased. సంతాపపడు to feel sorry. చింతపడు to be anxious. తిట్లుపడు to be reviled. తొందరపడు to be in distress. భయపడు to fear. మానుపడు to be stunned. వానికి నక్కిళ్లు పడినవి he has the lockjaw. It may be added in a similar way to past participles. ఉలికిపడు to start. తూగిపడు to slumber. It is also added to adjectives or verbs. ఎర్రపడు to redden, blush or turn red. వేరుపడు to be separated. ఏర్పడు to become. It may even be added to an interjection, కటకటపడు to cry Alas, to pity. తహతహపడు to be in trouble. ఆ యిల్లు పడినది that house is fallen in. ఆ వలలో నాలుగు పక్షులు పడినవి four birds were caught in the snare. అక్కడ ఒక పల్లము పడినది a hollow has formed there. ఆ యుద్ధములో నలుగురు పడినారు or పడిపోయినాడు four persons were killed in the battle. వానికి బంకపడుచున్నది he passes slime or mucus. వానికి పురుగులు పడినవి he passed worms. వానికి కుడిచెయ్యి పడినది his right hand has become paralysed. వారు వెనుకపడినారు they fell back, they retired. ఆ మతములో పడినాడు he embraced that religion. పేరుపడన renowned, celebrated, notorious. తటస్థపడినప్పుడు when an opportunity occurs. మరుగుపడినారు they went out of sight. నాకు వచ్చిన ఆపదకు వాడు అడ్డపడినాడు he stood in the way of the misfortune that happened to me. వారిద్దరికిని పడదు they do not agree, they are on bad terms. దానినోటిలో పడకుము do not put it in her power to abuse you. ఆ బావిలో మంచినీళ్లు పడినవి sweet water broke forth in the well. వానితో పడలేను I cannot get on with him. నాకు ఇప్పుడు పోవడము పడదు I cannot go now. ఇంకా విత్తనము పడలేదు the seed is not yet sown. ఆ చేనిలో అడ్డముగా పడి వారిపోయినాడు he ran away across the field. ఆ యిల్లు ఊరికె పడియున్నది that house is unoccupied. ఆ రూకలు ఊరిక పడియున్నవి that money is untouched, it is lying idle. ఆ సంసారము నా నెత్తిని పడినది that family is now left on my hands. ఆ నష్టము నా తలమిద పడినది I incurred that loss. Added to the root in A it forms the passive voice, thus కొట్టపడు to be beaten; చూడబడు to be seen. It is added at pleasure to some adverbs, thus బోర్లపడిన prostrate. తలక్రిందులుపడు to be topsy turvy, upside down, to be conceited. అది బయటపడినది it came to light. The causal form is పరుచు or పరచు. తొందరపరచు to trouble, torment. పడగొట్టు paḍa-goṭṭu. v. a. To knock down. పడదన్ను paḍa-dannu. v. a. To kick down. పడదొక్కు paḍa-lokku. v. a. To tread down. పడదోయు paḍa-dōya. v. a. To thrust down, knock down. పడవేయు paḍa-vēyu. v. a. To cast or throw down. పడిపోవు paḍi-pōvu. v. n. To fall down, to die. ఆయన పడిపోయిన తర్వాత after his decease. పడుకొను paḍu-konu. v. n. To lie down, recline. పడువ paḍuva. n. A very low place. మిక్కిలి పల్లమైనచోటు. పడువరి paḍu-vari. (పడు+వరి.) n. A crop or sprouts produced by seeds of paddy, that fall by chance as the crops are cut. పడ్డ paḍḍa. [contr. for పడిన.] pp. Fallen, &c., thus, పిలువబడ్డవాడు the man who was called. ఉంచబడ్డవాడు he who was kept there.

(p. 731) pāṅkōḍu pānkōḍu. [Tel. for పావకోడు.] n. A weaver's treadle. A sandal for the foot.

(p. 883) biga or బిగియ biga. [Tel.] adv. Tightly. బిగతొక్కు biga-tokku. v. a. To tread in or tread down tight. బిగపట్టు or బిగబట్టు biga-pattu. v. a. & n. To stop, to withhold, keep back, check, suspend. ఊపిరి బిగబట్టు to hold the breath in. వాన బిగబట్టినది the rain held off. నా జీవితమును బిగబట్టినాడు he kept back my pay. బిగాది bigādi. adj. Penniless, destitute. n. A beggar. 'సీ ఆకతాయబిగాదియడిబండ గుండడుమొండి కట్టె గులాము మొట్టె గోవు.' H. v. 128. బిగి bigi. n. Tightness. Firmness of flesh or body. Rigidity, austerity, superciliousness. దృఢత్వము, బిగువు. adj. Tight, hard, firm. Rigid, austere, proud, arrogant. బిగిబద్ద a stick that holds any two things tight. బిగించు, బిగియించు, బిగుచు or బిగియజేయు biginṭsu. v. a. To tighten to fasten: to stop, suspend. To be stubborn. అత్తవారింటికి పోనని బిగించుకొనియున్నది she stayed at home refusing to go to her husband's house. బిగింపు bigimpu. n. Rigidity, stiffness. Austerity నీ బిగింవులుపనికిరావు your stiffness will do no good. బిగితము bigitamu. (బిగి+ఇతము.) adj. Firm, దృఢము. బిగిమానము bigi-mānamu. n. Tightness, firmness. Rigidity. Austerity. Superciliousness. 'ఈయండజరాజయాన కెనయౌపురుషుండు మదన్యుడీజగన్మండలి నెవ్వడంచు బిగిమానముతో బురికేగెవంతటన్.' N. vii. 67. బిగియు bigiyu. v. n. To be tight. బిగువగు, బిగువుచేయు. To be proud or arrogant. 'వెలుపలవిడిదిలో విచ్చేసియుండి, పి లువబంపినవేళ బిగియకవచ్చి.' L. v. 132. బిగుతు bigutu. n. Tightness, tension, adj. Tight. బిగువు biguvu. n. Tightness, Rigidity, stiffness, austerity. Superciliousness, బింకము. బిగువుకొను biguvukonu. v. n. To become tight, బిగువగు. బిగువులు biguvulu. n. A stays, or rafter in a building. A bundle, sheaf, or rafter in a building. A bundle, sheaf, pack, bale. నీలియాకు రు 1కి 1్ బిగువుల వంతున వేస్తున్నారు they sell indigo stalks at sixteen bundles a rupee. చొప్ప వరహా 1కి బిగువులు వంతున వేస్తున్నారు బిగువులు 30 వంతున thirty packs or bundles of straw per pagoda. బిగ్గ or బిగ్గన bigga. adv. Tightly. All at once. Vijaya. iii.24. బిగ్గర, బిగ్గెర or బిగ్గిర biggara. adv. Tightly, firmly. Aloud. బిగ్గరగా నవ్వు to laugh out. బిగ్గరగా మాట్లాడు to speak loudly. బిగ్గిలి biggili. adv. Tightly (said of an embrace.)

(p. 943) maṭṭi maṭṭi. [Tel.] n. Earth, soil, mud Scurf or dandruff. మట్టితిన్నపామువలె పడియున్నాడు he is as stupid as a snake gorged with mud. మట్టిగుర్రమున నమ్మి యేటిలోదిగుట to rely on a mud horse and go into a river, i.e., to trust to appearances. మట్టితైలము or మట్టినూనె maṭṭi-tadama. n. Earth oil kerosene or petroleum. మట్టాడు maṭṭ-āḍu. (మట్టి + ఆడు.) v. n. & a. To walk. నడచు. To wander, roam, సంచరించు. To spread, వ్యాపించు. To cut to pieces, తనుమాడు.' అత్తూపుగములు తుత్తమురుదొట్టి మట్టాడి అట్టహాసంబుచేసి.' R. v. 191. మట్టియ Same as మట్టి and మట్టె (q. v.) మట్టు maṭṭu. v. a. To tread or trample, to crush. తొక్కు. n. Trampling, walking over. త్రొక్కుడు. Limit, bounds, measure, restriction, extent; moderation. పర్యంతము. ప్రమాణము. మితి, కొలత, తగ్గుదల. A settle or ring of cord, fibre, &c. to prevent a pot from rolling over, కుదురు. A place, ప్రదేశము. పైమట్టు the upper place or part. అడుగుమట్టు the bottom. ఆ బల్లమట్టుపట్టి తీసుకొనిరా measure the plank కావడిమట్టు the frame or bottom of the slings in a Kāvadi. వానికి తెలివిమట్టు he is wanting in sense. వానితో చెప్పినది నాబుద్ధే మట్టు I was a fool to tell him this. ఈ సంవత్సరము జనముమట్టు this year the assembly is but small. వానికి పుణ్యగతులుమట్టు he has no chance of heaven. మట్టుబీర a kind of బీరకాయ (q. v.) మట్టుగిన్నె a cup with a foot or base attached to it. adj. Limited, small. మితము, తక్కువ. మట్టుకు as far as, up to as much as, in regard to, until, as long as. దీనికి ఒకమట్టుమితములేదు there is no end or limit to it. మట్టుమర్యాదలేనివాడు he who has neither modesty nor moderation. మట్టుమీరవద్దు you must not go beyond bounds. అతడు వచ్చువరకు అని దీనికి ఒకమట్టుపెట్టిరి they laid it aside until his arrival, మనసుచెదరనీక మట్టుపెట్టి.' (Vēma. ii. 278.) curbing and restraining the mind. ఈ మట్టున లేచిపోయిరి with this they went away or thereupon they went away. పోడుగుపడి అంతమట్టున వాన నిలిచినది there was a thunderbolt and then the rain ceased. వానికి అంతమట్టుకు తెలియదు he does not know so much. ఎంతమట్టుకు పోయినావు how far did you go? గొంతుమట్టుకు నీళ్లువస్తున్నవి the water is up to the neck. వాడు ఎంతమట్టుకుంటే అంతమట్టుకు సంతోషిస్తాడు he contents himself with as much as he gets. నా ప్రాణములు ఉన్న మట్టుకు as long as I have life. నామట్టుకు నేను ఉంటాను నీమట్టుకు నీవు ఉండు I shall keep to myself, you keep to yourself. బియ్యము కావలసిన మట్టుకు చిక్కును you can get as much rice as you want. సొమ్ములుమట్టుకు నాకు వద్దు as for the jewels I do not want them. అంతమట్టుకు మంచిపని చేస్తిని so far you did well. ఇంతమట్టుకు వచ్చిన తరువాత ఇకనేమి దాక్షిణ్యము when the matter has come to such a push what is the use of delicacy? వానికి తిండిమట్టుకు బాగా కావలెను he cares for nothing but his dinner. నేనుమట్టుకు పోతిని I alone went. వాని ఒళ్లు శానామట్టుకు నాసిగానున్నది his health is in a great measure recovered. మట్టుఅగు. మట్టుకొను or మట్టుపడు maṭṭu-agu. v. n. To lessen or be diminished. తగ్గు, అడగు. కుదురుపడు. రోగము మట్టుపడినది the disease is moderating. వానికి దాహము మట్టుపడినది his thirst was slackened. మట్టుగా maṭṭu-gā. adv. Moderately, మితముగా. వర్షము మట్టుగానున్నప్పుడు when the rain is moderate. దగ్గు మట్టుగానున్నది the cough is now moderate. మట్టుగా తిన్నాడు he ate moderately. మట్టు చేయు or మట్టుపరచు maṭṭu-chēyu. v. a. To lessen, moderate, diminish. తగ్గించు. వానికి జీతము మట్టుచేసినారు they diminished his pay, వానికి జీతము మట్టుచేసినారు they diminished his pay, వానికి జీతము తగ్గించినారు. మట్టుపెట్టు maṭṭu-peṭṭu. v. a. To keep down, suppress, అడచు. To kill, చంపు. మట్టుమిగులు or మట్టుమీరు maṭṭu-migulu. v. n. To exceed the limits, అతిక్రమించు.

(p. 1021) meṭṭu meṭṭu. [Tel.] v. a. &n. To step, walk, tread. అడుగుపెట్టు, నడుచు, త్రొక్కు. 'మెల్ల మెల్లన మెట్టుచుదొలగి అల్లనల్లనతలుపులండకు జేరి.' BD iv. 1523. To tread on, to trample on. To lead to make one walk, to cause to be trampled. To suggest, to stir the mind. నడిపించు, తొక్కించు. To kill, చంపు. 'మింటన్ మ్రోసినమ్రోత తాలిమిని లో మెట్టింపమున్నీపునా యింటన్ బుట్టెదవంచుకంసుడుతొడిన్ హింసించె నీయన్నలన్.' B. X. 102. మెట్టిక meṭṭika. n. A step , మెట్టు, సోపానము. See also మెటిక. మెట్టిమల్లాడు meṭṭi-mall-āḍu. v. a. To trample down or all over, to ruin, హతముచేయు, ధ్వంసముచేయు. 'కర్మంబుల కట్టడలకులోనుగాక మాయలనుమెట్టి మల్లాడి నిర్మలలింగసేవ నెట్టిభక్తిఘటించు.' L. xvi. 229. మెట్టుకు meṭṭu-ku. adv. On the whole, altogether. In fact, in all, at the most, at least, at any rate. In short, at the best or worst, once for all, finally, at last, in the end, after all, withal, yet still. తుదకు. మెట్టుకుపోయినాడు of course he is gone. మెట్టిల్లు (మెట్టిన + ఇల్లు) the mother-in-law's house, ఆడుదాని అత్తగారిల్లు. మెట్టుబ్రాలు sacred rice, తలబ్రాలు.

(p. 1183) viyat or వియత్తు viyat. [Skt.] n. The Sky. ఆకాశము. విచ్చరుడు viyach-charuḍu. n. A treader of the skyey paths, i.e., a celestial, a god, నభశ్చరుడు, ఖచరుడు. వియత్పథము viyat-pathamu. n. The skyey path between earth and heaven. ఆకాశమార్గము. వియదాగారము viyad-āgāramu. n. The skyey mansion, Heaven. ఆకాశనికేతనము. 'అత్యుగ్రభైరవహుంకారరవంబు నంవియదాగారంబెల్లభేదిల్ల.' M.
