(p. 27) agrahāramu agra-hāramu. [Skt.] n. A street or village inhabited by brahmins. A village of which the old and hereditary cultivators are brahmins. A village granted to brahmins by government for charitable or religious purposes; either rent free, or at a favourable assessment. The conditions on which these villages are held are specified thus, సర్వాగ్రహారము a village free from all tax. శ్రోత్రియాగ్రహారము a village granted at a certain fixed assessment. జోడి అగ్రహారము, or బిల్మకా అగ్రగారము or, కట్టుబడి అగ్రహారము a village granted at a rent which fluctuates with the produce. అగ్రహారికుడు a brahmin belonging to such a village. అగ్రహారమనుభవించేవాడు he who enjoys a village free from tax.

(p. 48) adhyātmamu adhyātmamu. [Skt.] n. The soul; individuated spirit or that which belongs to, and presides over the body. The supreme spirit. జీవాత్మ, పరమాత్మ Also, Knowledge. జ్ఞానము. అధ్యాత్మ adj, Spiritual, belonging to spirit, inherent. ఆత్మసంబంధమైన. అధ్యాత్మజ్ఞానము knowledge of the Supreme spirit. అధ్యాత్మరామాయణము Ramayana explained as an allegory relating to the Supreme spirit. అధ్యాత్మికము or అధ్యాత్మికము adj. relating to the soul, spiritual.

(p. 50) anavaratamu anavaratamu. [Skt.] adj. Incessant, perpetual, constant. నిరంతరమైన, ఎడతెగని.

(p. 58) anuśrutamu anu-ṣrutamu. [Skt.] adj. In accordance with what is heard or the traditional teaching. Perpetual, continual. నిరంతరమైన. అనుశ్రుతముగా adv. Traditionally. Perpetually, continually. నిరంతరముగా.

(p. 60) anyamu anyamu. [Skt.] adj. Another, other, different, strange, foreign. ఇతరమైన, వేరే, మరియొక. అన్యదేశము a foreign country. అన్యదేశస్థులు foreigners. అన్యుడు anyuḍu. [Skt.] n. A stranger. పరుడు, ఇతరుడు అన్యోన్యము adj. Mutual, reciprocal. పరస్పరమైన. అన్యోన్యము n. Friendship, amity, intimacy, mutual attachment, or affection. స్నేహము, విహితము. అన్యోన్యముగా adv. On good terms, amicably, in a friendly manner, affectionately. స్నేహముగా, విహితముగా.

(p. 88) alavaḍu ala-vaḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To be accustomed, be practised in. To be mastered, అభ్యాసమగు, పరిచయమగు, సాధ్యమగు. 'బ్రహ్మలోక పర్యతంబున్ గల యవివరించి చూచి తినలవడదిది నీవెతెలుపు హంపబడౌజ.' To habituate, accustom, excercise, teach. వాడుకచేయు, అభ్యాసపరుచు, పనుపరుచు, నేర్పు. అలవాటు ala-vāṭu. n. Use, habit,custom, practice. వాడుక, అభ్యాసము. అలవాటుగా నుండే adj. Customary, usual. వాడుకైన.

(p. 96) avastha avastha. [Skt.] n. State, condition, situation: trouble, difficulty, atrait. దశ, సంకటము. వాడు నిండా దురవస్థలోనున్నాడు he is in a wretched state. అవస్థాత్రయము, అనగా జాగ్రత్స్వప్నసుషుప్తులు the three states: viz., waking, sleeping and dreaming. అవస్థాచతుష్టయము, అనగా బాల్యావస్థ the period of childhood. యావనావస్థ the period of youth. వార్ధకావస్థ old age. మరణావస్థ the agony of death.

(p. 110) ācariñcu ācharinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To practise, to observe, to be used to, to do habitually. To put in practice (the precepts of religion), to perform (bathing, &c.) To celebrate (a religious festival.) ఆచరణము ācharaṇamu. n. Doing, performing. ఆచారము, నడత. ఆచారము ācharamu. n. Practice, custom. Rule, fashion, mode, a course of conduct, institute or observance, Religious observance. మతాచారముచొప్పున according to the principles of the creed. ఆచారి āchari. n. A caste title borne by the Vaishnavite Brahmins, the men of the blacksmith and goldsmith castes. సదాచారి a man of good principles. ఆచార్యత్వము āchāryatvamu. n. The office of a priest. ఆచార్యుడు āchāryuḍu. n. A teacher. A priest: a spiritual guide or preceptor: one who invests the student with the sacrificial thread and instructs him in the mysteries of the religion.

(p. 115) ādhyātmikamu ādhy-ātmikamu. [Skt.] adj. Spiritual. ఆత్మ వల్ల గలిగినది. ఆధ్యాత్మికతాపములు sufferings self caused.

(p. 118) āmuṣmikamu āmushmikamu. [Skt.] adj. That which is mental, spiritual, or heavenly; as distinguished from ఆయిహికము that which is material or earthly. ఆముష్మిక సుఖములు spiritual delights.

(p. 123) ārṣamu ārsḥạmu. [Skt. from ఋషి] adj. Relating to, belonging to or derived from a Rishi. ఋషిసంబంధమైన. Spiritual, prophetical; inspired or revealed by means of a Rishi. Archaic. పురాతనము. n. A form of marriage in which a girl is freely given away in accordance with the Sastras, her parents receiving a cow and an ox in return. ధర్మార్థము వరునినుండి ఆవును ఎద్దును పుచ్చుకొని కన్యనిచ్చి శాస్త్రానుసారముగా చేయు పెండ్లి.

(p. 130) āhavanamu āhavanamu. [Skt.] n. A sacrifice. యజ్ఞము. ఆహవనీయము āhavanīyamu. n. One of the three consecrated fires in the grand Hindu sacrifice. It is lighted from the house-holder's perpetual fire: and is prepared for receiving oblations.
