(p. 2) aṅkamma ankamma. [Tel. n. అంకు+అమ్మ.] A village goddess, usually worshipped by the Panchamas. అంకచండాలము a filthy mass.

(p. 13) antikalu antikalu. [Tel.] n. A (tatty) screen made of grass, (usually of cuscuss.) వెట్టివేళ్లచాపవలె [పైన కప్పుగా గాని ధాన్యరాశికి లేక ఉప్పుకొతారులకు పైనగాని వేస్తే ఉరియదు.]

(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. See అక్కలవాడ.

(p. 33) aṭlu aṭlu. [Tel.] (adv.) So, as, according to. అట్ల aṭla. [Tel.] adv. Like, as. వాడు చెప్పినట్ల as he said. ఎప్పటియట్ల as usual. శత్రువులట్ల like enemies. తనయట్ల పంజ్తివారును people like himself. అట్లా aṭlā. [Tel.] adv. So, thus. అట్లా చెప్పినాడు he said so. అట్లా ఉన్నది it is so. అట్లా పో go there. ఇట్లా రా come here. ఇట్లాగంటి aṭlāgaṇti. [Tel.] adj. Such. అలాగంటి, అలాటి. అట్లాగా or అలాగా. Is it so? అట్లాగు aṭlāgu. [Tel. from అట్లు+లాగు.] adv. Thus, so. అట్లాగే just so, yes, very well, అలాగు. అట్లాటి aṭlāti. [Tel.] adj. Such, like this, like that అలాగంటి. అట్లేని if so.

(p. 64) apurūpamu apu-rūpamu. [Skt.] adj. Rare, seldom, uncommon, unusual. అరుదైన, వింతైన, అపూర్వము. KP. vi. 232.

(p. 68) abvābu abvābu. [H.] n. (Lit. Doors, chapters.) Miscellaneous revenue accounts. 'The usual heads in Revenue accounts are Mal and Abwab. The Mal or Regular revenue is collected on land and customs, including taxes on liquors, &c The Abwab, or Miscellaneous includes the difference of exchange (often considerable) between that of the market and the fixed rate at which the revenue of the district is paid, casual aid or support of the Government officers, fees to the shroff, and contributions to various feasts.' Malcolm, vol. ii. p. 48.

(p. 69) abhighāramu abhi-ghāramu. [Skt.] n. Ghee or clarified butter. నేతిబొట్టు, usually putting a few drops of clarified butter upon rice prior to eating: or putting it in the sacrficial fire to purify the rice.

(p. 88) alavaḍu ala-vaḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To be accustomed, be practised in. To be mastered, అభ్యాసమగు, పరిచయమగు, సాధ్యమగు. 'బ్రహ్మలోక పర్యతంబున్ గల యవివరించి చూచి తినలవడదిది నీవెతెలుపు హంపబడౌజ.' H. ii. 67. 'వీనియందలవడగల్గదీ జలరుహాక్షులకుంబ్రియ మెవ్విధంబునన్.' Swa. vi. 74. అలవరించు or అలవరచు ala-varinṭsu. v. a. To make, celebrate. To put on. చేయు, ధరించు, పెట్టు. 'వేదోక్త పద్ధతి వెలయంగ యాగంబులలవరించిన సోమయాజులకును.' N. iv. 106. 'హరిచందనము పూతలందంబుగా మేననలవరించి.' N. ii. 425. అలవరుచు, అలవర్చు or అలవరించు v. a. To habituate, accustom, excercise, teach. వాడుకచేయు, అభ్యాసపరుచు, పనుపరుచు, నేర్పు. అలవాటు ala-vāṭu. n. Use, habit,custom, practice. వాడుక, అభ్యాసము. అలవాటుగా నుండే adj. Customary, usual. వాడుకైన.

(p. 91) allīsakarra allīsa-karra. [H.] n. An oar. పడవతెడ్డు, తెడ్డు. (The boatmen usually cry అయిలేస ayilēsa and అయిలేస బడియేల when rowing) అల్లీసకర్రలువేయు or కోలలువేయు to row a boat with oars.

(p. 107) ākāṇḍikamu ā-kānḍikamu. [Skt.] n. Unseasonable, unusual at that season. Vasu. v. 3.

(p. 172) uśīramu uṣīramu. [Skt.] n. A sort of fragrant root, Audropogon muricaṭus usually termed వట్టివేరు cuss-cuss.

(p. 189) eppuḍu ep-puḍu. [Tel. ఏ+పొద్దు] adv. When. ఏకాలము; ఎప్పటి of what time. ఎప్పటికి at what time, at any time, for ever. ఎప్పటికిని ever, at all times, always. ఎప్పటికైనా at any time. ఎప్పటివలె as usual. ఎప్పటిపని the usual employment. ఎప్పుడెప్పుడని కాచుకొనియుండినాడు he waited impatiently. ఎప్పుడో some time or other, I know not when.

(p. 227) kambaḷamu or కంబళి kambaḷamu. [Skt.] n. A rug, a blanket: (usually black:) కంబళమువంటి as black as a blanket. రత్నకంబళము a particoloured rug. కంబళికర్ర kambaḷi-karra. n. A variegated yellow timber, like satin wood. కంబళిపండు kambaḷi-paṇḍu. A mulberry. కంబళిపురుగు kambaḷi-purugu. n. A hairy caterpillar. వాడు ఒక కంబళిపురుగు he is a wretch.

(p. 239) kaddu kaddu. [Tel. for కలదు.] It is; it happens usually. It is the case. --See కలుగు. అట్లా చెప్పడముకద్దు it is usual to say so. అట్లా ఉండడముకద్దు it frequently is the case. అమావాస్య రెండు దినములు కద్దనగా two days before new moon. (Lit. when they said, after two days it will be new moon). It is opposed to లేదు, thus కద్దులేదనక he neither said yes nor no.

(p. 259) kalugu or కల్గు kalugu. [Tel.] v. n. To live exist. To be. ఉండు. To happen, occur. To become అగు. To endure ఓపు. To be born పుట్టు. To meet కూడు. ఒక రాజుకలడు there was a certain king. అతనికి పిల్లలుకలిగి children being born to him. సొమ్ముకలవాడు one who has money. నాకు న్యాయము కలిగినది I got justice. అట్లా అనడముకద్దు (or కలదు) it is usual to say so. పనికలిగి వచ్చిరి they came about some business. వ్రాయగలడు he can write. అట్లా మేము చెల్లించగలవారము కాము we are not liable to pay this money. వీరాదిగాగలరాజులు (RYD. 2060) these and other princes. తెలివిగలవాడు a man of sense. యాభైయేండ్లుగలవాడు aged fifty. To be sore. వానికి కండ్లుకలిగినవి he has sore eyes. v. t. To have, to show కలిగియుండు, కనుపరుచు. 'కరుణగలుగుమ్మ కమలనేత్ర.' (భార. అది. viii.)
