(p. 126) āḷvāru āḷvāru. [Drav.] n. A Vaishnava name for a saint. The Alwars or saints were twelve in number and are considerd to have been incarnations of the attendants, arms, or insignia of Vishnu: each of them wrote a portion of the 'Dravida Prabandham,' or 'Tamil Veda' help in greater veneration that the original Sanskrit Veda, of which it is, in fact, an ancient Tamil translation (Ellis.) The పరమయోగివిలాసము is a history of these personages. A hawk is sometimes called గరుడాళ్వారు.

(p. 778) pūja or పూజనము pūja. [Skt.] n. Worship, reverence, respect, veneration, obeisance, homage, adoration. అర్చన. ఇది వాడు చేసుకొన్న పూజాఫలము this is an answer to his prayers. పూజకుడు pūjakuḍu. n. A worshipper, a priest. అర్చకుడు. పూజనీయము pūjanīyamu. adj. Venerable, honourable. M. XIII. v. 29. పూజనీయులు the noble. పూజించు or పూజచేయు pūjinṭṣu v. a. To worship, adore, do homage or obeisance to, reverence. అర్పించు. పూజితము pūjitamu. adj. Worshipped, adored, reverend, reverenced. పూజితుడు pūjituḍu. n. One who is honoured or saintly, పూజింపబడినవాడు. పూజ్యత pūjyata. n. Venerableness. పూజ్యము pūjyamu. adj. Venerable, deserving of respect and reverence. n. Nothing. భోజనానకు పూజ్యమున్నది I have nothing to live upon. పూజ్యుడు pūjyuḍu. n. One who is venerable or honourable, పూజింపదగినవాడు, గౌరవమునకు పాత్రుడు. పూజ్యుడైన pūjyḍ-aina. adj. Venerable, adorable.

(p. 1280) sampūjanamu sam-pūjanamu. [Skt.] n. Honouring, veneration, esteem, treating with respect. మిక్కిలి గౌరవించడము, సమ్మాననము, ఆదరము. సంపూజనీయము sampūjanīyamu. adj. Honourable, respected, venerable, గౌరవింపదగిన, ఆదరణీయము. సంపూజితము sam-pūjitamu. adj. Honored, respected. గౌరవింపబడిన, మాననీయమైన. సంపూజ్యము sam-pūjyamu adj. Honourable, adorable. అర్చనీయము.

(p. 1321) sādaramu s-ādaramu. [Skt. స+ఆదరము] adj. Respectful. సన్మానమైన. 'సాదరభావజ్ఞు సారంగధరుని.' Sar. D. 567. సాదరత s-ādarata. n. Regard, respect, veneration, affection. సన్మానము, ఆదరణ, విశ్వాసము. సాదరముగా s-ādaramu-gā. adv. Respectfully, kindly, సన్మాణముగా సాదరుడు s-ādaruḍu. n. One who is gracious. సన్మానము చేయువాడు. 'బింబాధరున్ సాదరున్.' Balarama. iii. 218.

(p. 1354) sēva or సేవనము sēva. [Skt.] n. Service, servitude, homage, reverence, worship. పరిచర్య, శుశ్రుష. సేవచేయు to serve, to wait on, attend on. ఏకాంతసేవ solitary adoration. తీర్థసేవ visiting a holy place. ఔషధసేవనము taking medicine. 'అమల వాయుసేవనము నిర్మలత్వంబు.' M. XII. vi. 2. సేవకవృత్తి sēvaka-vṛitti. n. Servitude, living by service. కొలువుచేసి జీవించడము, నవుకరి. సేవకుడు or సేవి sēva-kuḍu. n. A servant, an attendant. దాసుడు. తమసేవకుడైన your obedient servant. సేవించు or సంవేవించు sēvinṭsu. v. a. To serve, to worship, to prostrate oneself, to salute; to eat or drink, as a medicine, &c. కొలుచు, పూజించు, పుచ్చుకొను, తిను, తాగు. 'కావుననేవిధమున సుర సేవింపక యుడుగుటొప్పు.' M. XIII. v. 166. బహుదివ్యదేశములు సేవించినాడు he visited many shrines. సేవితము sēvitamu. adj. Served, worshipped. కొలువబడిన, పూజింపబడిన, ఉపాసితమైన. సేవితుడు sēvituḍu. n. One who is worshipped or venerated. నమస్కృతుడు. మునిసేవితుడైన యీశ్వరుడు the god who is adored by the hermits. సేవ్యము sēvyamu. adj. Venerable, worthy of worship, సేవించడమునకు అర్హమైన, ఉపాస్యమైన. n. Ploughed land. దున్నిసిద్ధము చేసిన పొలము. సేవ్యుడు sēvyuḍu. n. One who is venerable, one who deserves worship or veneration. సేవింపదగినవాడు.
