(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

Prohibition, restriction, a charm, an enchantment. మితి. A streak. నూనూగు మీసకట్టు the line of his budding whiskers. The hoop or band of a bucket, the tire of a wheel. The water in which any kind of pulse is boiled except rice. ఉలవకట్టు boilings of horse gram. Season, weather. part of the year. ఋతువు. శీతకట్టు the cold season. A forged coin. సీసకట్టు రూపాయి a leaden rupee. వెండికట్టు a silvered coin. జాతికట్టు the tie of kindred, the custom of the caste. మంత్రకట్టు fascination, charming by spells. మడికట్టు a waistband or girdle, నీరుకట్టు a stoppage of urine. వలకట్టు a weir in a river, posts to fasten a net to ఈ యింటిలో ముందరికట్టు పెద్దది వెనకటికట్టు చిన్నది the front of this house is larger than the back rooms.

(p. 287) kuñcini kunchini. [Tel.] n. A painting brush, a brush, or whisk for flies. A carding instrument or teazle for wool.

(p. 287) kuñcī kunchī. [Tel.] n. A cap with a flap behind, worn by boys. A whisk to drive away flies with.

(p. 287) kuñce or కుంచియ kunche. [Tel.] n. A brush, a whisk; a carding instrument or teazle for wool, a chauri made of peacock's feathers. గుడ్డను కర్రకు కుంచెగా కట్టినాడు he fastened the cloth as a wisp on the pole. కుంచెకోల kunche-kōla. n. The crooked pole used in opening the gate of a pagaoda.

(p. 326) kōḍu kōḍu. [Tel.] n. A rivulet, the branch of a river: an artificial canal. A bed of bulrushes: a marsh. నీటిపల్లము. A line రేఖ. A leg of a bed, table, or chair. కాలు. కోడుతారు to become overripe and wither. పండినపయిరు మిక్కిలియెండు. వరిపైరు కోడుతారినది the crop ir overripe. Ila. ii. 164. v. a. To brandish (the tongue as a snake.) To whisk (rice so as to separate the whole from the broken grains or stones.)

(p. 328) kōra kōra. [Tel.] n. A tusk, fang, tooth. దంష్ట్ర. A cup గిన్నె. A tray or dish, పళ్లెము. adj. Sharp, pointed కోరకొమ్ము a sharp horn. కోరపళ్లు the incisors. కోరమీసాలు pointed whiskers. కోరపంది a tusked boar. Unbleached, brown (See కోరా). Base, impure (as metal, &c.) Slanting, lying on a side ఒరిగియుండే, పక్కగానుండే. కోరదవడలు hollow cheeks. కోరకొండె or కోరసిగ a side lock or tuft of hair ముఖపార్శ్వమునవేసే కొండె. కోరపోవు to go crooked వంకరలుపోవు.

(p. 358) gari gari. n. [Tel.] n. A wing. రెక్క. The feather of an arrow. బాణము యొక్క రెక్క. Harshness. గరిమీసాలు whiskers.

(p. 368) girukkuna girukkuna. [Tel.] adv. Round and round: whisking. గిరుక్కున తిరిగెను or గిరుక్కున మళ్లెను he turned suddenly.

(p. 405) camaramu chamaramu. [Skt.] n. The yak of Tartary, Bos-grunnicns the tail of which is made into whisks (చామరము), సమరపుమెకము. A whisk వింజామరము. చమరి the female of this animal, ఆడుసమరపుమెకము.

(p. 408) cāmaramu chāmaramu. [Skt.] n. A fly brush, or chowri composed of the tail of the Yak, Bow-grunniens. A whisk. వింజాధురము.

(p. 597) dīḍu dīḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To trim or prune, as a bird does its feathers with the beak. To gnash the teeth or bite the lips in rage. It is the same words as దిడ్డు. మీసాలుదీడి curling his whiskers, twisting them with his fingers (denoting rage.)

(p. 672) nulumu , నుల్ము, నులుమాడు or నుల్మాడు nulumu. [Tel.] v. a. To roll (cotton between the hands.) To pull (by the ears.) To twist or curl (the whiskers). To twist or pull (a bullock's tail in urging it on.) వాని మెడ నులిమిరి they wrenched or broke his neck. To dig up, to root up. పెల్లగించు.

(p. 726) palla palla. [Tel.] adj. Red, reddish, as hair. తామ్రవర్ణమైన. పల్లలైనజడలు red matted hair. M. XIII. v. 26. పల్లచీమ a red ant.
