(p. 69) abhinavamu abbi-navamu. [Skt.] adj. New, modern నూతనమైన, కొత్త. అభినవకాళిదాసుడు. 'The modern Kālidāsa.' This is equivalent to 'The Milton of our days' or, 'a Byron, a Moore:' merely denoting an excellent poet.

(p. 126) āvaṭamu āvaṭamu. [Tel.] n. Manner, good style, mode. నూతి కట్టకడవ ఆవటమున in peril, like a pitcher on the brink of a well. ఆవటముగశయ్యదీర్చి (G. v. 60.) Arranging his bed properly. 'నేతి బీరావటములాయెనేమి?' Velag. iii. 95. ఆవటించు āvaṭinṭsu. To take, live upon. వాడు గాలి ఆవటించి బ్రతికెను. P. iv. 53. He lived upon mere air: he starved. To help (one to food or to drink.) (p. 141) illu or ఇలు illu. [Tel. The primitive. form is ఇల్ which means 'a house. ఆలయము (q. v.) borrowed by Skt. from Drav. means (1) house and (2) 'God's abode' or house cf. కోయిల or కోవెల. In the Chaldee word 'Babylon (= bab-ilu), the latter part 'ilu' means 'God' by a transition of ideas.] n. A house, a chamber, room. Home, place, caste, family. 'మన యింటి చేటు చూచితే.' నిర్వ. ix. ఇంటిగుట్టు a family secret. ఇంటికి దూరమైన ceremonially unclean, i.e., ఋతుమతి యైన In poems మరునిల్లు is the భగము. ఇల్లు నింపడము setting up a house, house-warming వధూవరుల నూతన గృహప్రవేశము.

(p. 205) oṇṭikāḍu or ఒంటిగాడు onṭi-kāḍu. [Tel.] n. A single man, a lonely person. A rhinoceros, or a wild boar. ఏకచరము. 'అనురక్తిరేచునూతనసారసాటోప మొంటికాండ్రకు బెంపులొసగునెచట.' హరిశ్చంద్ర. నల. ii.

(p. 368) giraka giraka. [Tel.] n. A pulley. నూతిరాట్నము, ఘటయంత్రము. adj. Short, dumpy. పొట్టి. గిరకతనము giraka-tanamu. n. Shortness of stature. గిరకతాడిచెట్టు giraka-tāḍi-cheṭṭu. n. The short or stumpy palm tree. గిరకపడు giraka-paḍu. v. n. To fall back, fail. 'కందమూలంబులు నిర్మూలంబులయ్యె.' Ellana iii. 219. గిదకకుండ without hesitation, at once.

(p. 399) ghaṭamu ghaṭamu. [Skt.] n. An earthen vessel or jar, కుండ. The body శరీరము. A ruined well పాడునుయ్యి. ఘటవిసర్జనచేసినాడు he left the body. ఈ ఘటముండేవరకు as long as I live. Bringing about, effecting కూర్పు, ఘటము. దుర్ఘటము impracticable, hard to get or bring about. ఘటచక్రము ghaṭa-chakramu. n. A potter's wheel. ఘటయంత్రము ghaṭa-yantramu. [Skt.] n. A sort of pump. నూతిగిరక, నీరుతోడేగిలక. 'గీ పొంతఘటయంత్రసరము ద్రిప్పుచు జపించు' A. v. 90. ఘటశాసి ghaṭa-ṣāsi. n. A logician. తార్కికుడు. A. vi. 89. ఘటశ్రాద్ధము or ఘటస్పోటనము ghaṭa-ṣrāddhamu. n. The funeral of a pot; a mode of divorce, wherein funeral rites are performed as though the rebellious wife were actually dead. ఘటస్ఫోటనము చేసినాడు he divorced his wife.
