In some phrases the word may be left untranslated: as నా చేతికిచ్చెను he gave it to me; lit. to my hand చెయికావలి means a supply of rice, &c., provided for dinner at a future stage in a journey. చెయ్యికావలికి నాలుగు రూపాయలు ఎత్తిపెట్టుకొన్నాడు he laid up something to meet contingencies. కరిడిచెయ్యి అద్దము like a looking glass in the hand of a bear. చేతకాని idle, paltry, incapable. In some compounds it means extra, as చెయ్యికావలి or చెయ్యిజాగ్రత a reserve, or extra ground; చెయ్యితడి ఆరకముందు తీర్చివెయ్యి do it before your hand cools. చెయ్యియీటె a small spear. తాళపుచెయ్యి a key. నీచేతినుంచి తగులుతుంది, or, చెయ్యికరుచును you will have to lay out some money. చెయ్యిచేసికొను to handle, interfere, meddle with, to use the hand: to take the law into one's own hands and beat. చెయ్యివిడుచు to abandon, desert, give over (a person.) చెయ్యిచూచు to feel the pulse. చెయ్యితిరిగిన cheyyi-tirigina. adj. This verb has numerous senses peculiar to certain nouns under which it will be found. పిల్లలుపెట్టు to bear young ones. గుడ్లుపెట్టు to lay eggs. ఆశపెట్టు to tive hopes, tantalise. ఆ తప్పును వానిమీద పెట్టిరి they laid the fault on him. ఆమెకు నూరు రూపాయిల సొమ్ము పెట్టినాడు he gave her a hundred rupees worth of jewels. అన్నముపెట్టు to serve or help food at dinner. కావలిపెట్టు to put a guard over. అపరాధముపెట్టు to pay a fine. నైవేద్యము పెట్టు to offer an oblation. బొబ్బలుపెట్టు to yell. బాధపెట్టు to torture. కనిపెట్టు to watch, to find out, to wait. చెట్లుపెట్టు to plant trees. అట్లు చెయవద్దని నాకు ఒట్లు పెట్టినాడు he adjured me not to do so. పాళ్లుపెట్టు to divide or separate into shares. గురిపెట్టు to take aim. కఠిన పథ్యము పెట్టినాడు he put him on strict diet. అంగడి or దుకాణముపెట్టు to open a shop. ఈ మాటను అంగడిలో పెట్టవద్దు do not talk of this publicity. గోడపెట్టు to build a wall. It is also added to many verbs sometimes without altering the meaning. Thus, చేర్చిపెట్టు or కూడబెట్టు to accumulate store up. పరుండబెట్టు to put to bed. దాచిపెట్టు to conceal or hide. 'ఎవ్వనియింటికి నేడు వారాసులు పెట్టనికోటయై పెరుగుచుండు' Molla. v. 48. దానిని ఒకపెట్టు పెట్టినాడు he gave her a slap. గోడపెట్టు చెంపపెట్టు రెండును వచ్చినవి his luck was bad in both ways. పెట్టుపోతలు శాశ్వతములుకావు meat and drink are momentary matters. మాటలు మా అమ్మవి, పెట్టుసవతితల్లిది the words are those of a mother, but the acts are those of a step-mother. నాల్గుపెట్లు four times. ఒకపెట్టున all at once, simultaneously. పెట్టించు peṭṭinṭsu. v. a. To have it placed or put, &c. మరొకరు ఉంచునట్లు చేయు. నాకు అన్నము పెట్టించినాడు he had food given me. పెట్టుకొను peṭṭu-konu. v. a. To keep, or put, for one's own advantage or use, ఉంచుకొను. కొడుకునకు తన తండ్రిపేరు పెట్టుకొన్నాడు he gave the boy his father's name. ఏముఖము పెట్టుకొని మాట్లాడును has he the face to speak? పెట్టుకోలు peṭṭu-kōlu. n. An elder mother, i.e., mother's elder sister or a father's elder brother's wife. పెద్దమ్మ is also the name of జ్యేష్ఠాదేవి a goddess who is the personification of misfortune, and is described as the elder sister of శ్రీ or Fortune. (q. v.) వాడు దానిని ముడిపెట్టుకొన్నాడు he tied the nuptial knot to her, he married her. ముళ్లుకత్తిరించేవాడు a pick-pocket. ఆమె తలముడి వీడినది her hair fell loose, the knot being untied. ముడివిప్పు to untie or open a knot. ఆ దారములో ముళ్లుపడ్డవి that string has formed into knots. ముడివక్కలు unbroken (or whole) areca nuts, గుంటపోకచెక్కలు. బొమలుముడిపెట్టు to knit the eye-brows. ఒకవ్యాజ్యమును ముడివేసి విడిచిపెట్టినాడు he cast a bone of dispute between them. 'పడంతిమది ముడిసడలన్.' Bhadra Parin. iii. 297. దాని మనసనేగ్రంధి వీడునప్పటికి. ముడి muḍi. adj. Closed, వికసింపని. Entire, whole, unbroken, ఖండముకాని. ముడిపూలు unblown flowers. 'ముడిపూలపొట్లముల్.' Illa. ii. 163. ముడి౛ొన్నలు the great millet enclosed in its husk. ముడినువ్వులు sesamum seeds which are not cleaned. ముడిపోక an entire areca nut. ముడిబియ్యము rice that is not well cleaned, చేబియ్యము. ముడికట్టు muḍi-kaṭṭu. n. Certain fees on a crop for the benefit of the landlord. A truss of straw, a sheaf. v. a. To tie a knot. To tie a knot in a man's cloth to remind him that you call upon him to be a witness. అందుగురించి పెద్దలు ముడికట్టినారు our anscestors have laid down this rule or held this doctrine. ముడికాడు muḍi-kāḍu. n. One who ties a knot, one who unites, సంధానముచేయువాడు. ముడికాళ్లు muḍi-kāḷḷu. n. Knock-knees. ముడికాళ్లవాడు a man who is knock-kneed. ముట్టికాళ్లవాడు. ముడికాళ్లది a woman who is knock-kneed. ముడికొక్కు muḍi-kokku. n. A weevil. నంగనాచి. ముడికొను, ముడిగొను or ముడిపడు muḍi-konu. v. n. To be tied in a knot. ముడికొన్న or ముడిగొన్న muḍi-konna. adj. Tied, bound. బద్ధమైన. 'ముడిగొన్న సంసారమోహబంధములు వెడదన్ని సుజ్ఞాని వెడలినమాడ్కి.' DRK. 372. ముడికొలుపు muḍi-kolupu. v. a. To cause to be tied in a knot. ముడిగిబ్బ muḍi-gibba. n. An ox, a bull, ఆబోతు. ముడిపంచె or ముడిబట్ట muḍi-panche. n. A plain cotton cloth without any coloured border. నెల్లాగుడ్డ. ముడిపడు or ముడిపడు muḍi-paḍu. v. n. To be tied in a knot, ముడిగలదియగు. To be united, సంధించు. To be entangled, పెనగొను. To be confounded, puzzled. చీకాకుపడు. 'ముడిపడెననియెడదంజిడి, ముడిపడకుడు.' N. vii. 312. 'మొగమున చీకట్లుముడివడ.' HD. ii. 1380. To increase, excel, అతిశయించు. To happen, కలుగు. ముడిపెట్టు or ముడివేయు muḍi-peṭṭu. v. a. To tie a knot. ముడిబొమ్మ muḍi-bomma. n. A kind of fish, Mastacembelus aennalus. ముడియ muḍiya. n. A knot. A bundle of straw or young plants ready to set. కట్ట, మూట. A wager, పందెము. ముడియవిడుపు muḍiya-viḍupu. n. A pick-pocket. ముళ్లువిప్పు దొంగ. ముడివాటు muḍi-vāṭu. n. The act of being tied in a knot, &c., ముడిపడుట.

Plu. రాళ్లు. రాతికట్టుభూమి stony soil. చిట్టెపురాయి a lump of dross. ఉప్పురాయి a crystal or bit of salt. ఉప్పురాయివలె నేను ఒకకొడుకును పెట్టుకొన్నాను I have one single son whom I have kept as a pet. ఉప్పురాయివలె ఒకణ్ని ఉన్నాను. I am left solitary. A proverb says చలిపందిటికుండలో రాళ్లు వేయడము to dissuade one from a good deed. See రాతి.
