(p. 155) uttariñcu uttarinṭsu. [Tel.] v. a. To cross or pass over. To amputate: to divide cloth into separate pieces, to refund, repay, restore. ఉత్తారకుడు uttārakuḍu. n. One who helps one to cross. A saviour, a deliverer. దాటించువాడు; రక్షకుడు.

(p. 159) uddhāraṇamu or ఉద్ధారణ or ఉద్ధారము ud-dhāraṇamu. [Skt.] n. Lifting up. Protection. Sustaining. Rescuing, delivering, releasing, restoring. మతోద్ధారణచేయు to re-establish a religion. ఉద్ధారాంశము a share granted to the man who re-established something that has fallen into decay. పోయినదానిని మళ్లీ సాధించినవానికిచ్చే విశేష భాగము. ఉద్ధారము చేయు to sustain: support. ఉద్ధారకుడు ud-dhārakuḍu. n. He who sustains or nourishes, a saviour, a redeemer రక్షకుడు.

(p. 197) eḍugaḍa or ఏడ్గడ ēḍugaḍa. [Tel. ఏడు+కడ (lit.) the place where your ఏడుపు complaint is listened to or కడ means end. So ఏడుకడ means the end of sorrow, that is, refuge.] n. Quarter, patronage, refuge. రక్షకము. Protector, patron. రక్షకుడు, దిక్కు. 'మన్మైప్రేరితకోటికేడుగడ.'

(p. 243) kannāku kannāku. [Tel. కన్ను+ఆకు.] n. The spoke of a spinning wheel, which, being the last put in, keeps the rest all tight. The outside leaf in a bundle of betal leaves. The finishing bit or corner stone; that which keeps all the rest right. A noble or excellent person. రక్షకుడు; ముఖ్యుడు, అగ్రేసరుడు. M. VI. i. 92.

(p. 271) kāpari kāpari. [Tel. from కాచు.] n. A keeper. రక్షకుడు. అలగాపరి or పసులకాపరి a herdsman. 'కాపరిలేని గొర్రియలకైవడి కంటకచోరకోటిచే, సేపరియున్న దీభువన మీశుడు కృష్ణుడులేమి.' భాగ. i.

Guard, custody. రక్షణము. చేకావలి an alternative, a thing kept as a stand by; a provision. చెయ్యికావలిగా నుండేస్తంభము a piece of wood kept in reserve. కావలికాడు or కావలివాడు kāvali-kāḍu. n. A sentinel, a watchman. రక్షకుడు. కావలిబొట్టు a black mark put on the face of children for good luck బిడ్డలకు రక్ష గానుంచే నల్లని బొట్టు.

(p. 746) pāliñcu pālinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To nourish, cherish, foster, protect. To rule, govern. పోషించు, రక్షించు, ఏలు, కాపాడు. పాలిక pālika. n. An earthen vessel containing mould in which nine sorts of seed are sown, in accordance with a rite in Hindu weddings. పాలికలు ఓలలాడుదురు the bridesmaids perform a certain ceremony, as the conclusion of the wedding. పాలితము pālitamu. adj. Protected, cherished, nourished. పాలిని pālini. n. She who protects or rules. పాలించునది. పాలకుడు pālakuḍu. n. A guardian, protector. రక్షకుడు. పాలనము pālanamu. n. A final entertainment given by the bride's parents to the bridegroom, after the conclusion of the whole marriage ceremonies.

A refugee, one who seeks or takes refuge or shelter with another, one who calls for quarter. శరణుచొచ్చినవాడు. ఆశ్రయించినవాడు. శరణాగతులైరి they threw themselves at his feet, they sought refuge with him. శరనార్థి ṣaraṇ-ārthi. n. A suppliant. petitioner. 'శరణార్థినను గానగాదగు.' Swa. vi. 113. శరణు ṣaraṇu. (another form of శరణము.) n. A refuge, asylum shelter, defence, protection. రక్షణము, ఆశ్రయము. A bow, salutation, prostration, obeisance. నమస్కారము. 'భయార్తులై శరణు జొచ్చివారిని రక్షించుటకంటె' Vish. v. 244. 'విధిగృహాక్షయవిత్తశేవధికిశరణు.' A. vi. 147. శరణుచొచ్చు ṣaraṇu-tsoṭsṭsu. v. n.
