(p. 2) aṅkamu ankamu. [Tel. Drav. word borrowed by Skt. √ అన్్క్ = to move in a curve.] n. A ma spot, badge. బిరుదాంకము = బిరుదు గురుతు. 'అంకపురాజింక.' వసు. ii. 11. The haunch or part above the hip. A chapter or section. An act in a play. Proximity. A numerical figure, a cipher. A military show, a sham fight. వింతపోరు, చిత్రయుద్ధము. 'అంకగతుడైన దైత్యుని నాగ్రహమున.' భాగ. A fault, a sin, Objection, cavil ఆక్షేపము. 'అంకముసేయవచ్చునలయయ్యలమున్నుగ బ్రస్తుతించెదన్.' మైరా. i. అంకతలము or అంకపీఠి the lap, the part on which an infant sits, as on the lap. 'నయనీయంకతలంబునన్నిదుర నూనంజేయగా వేడెదన్.' విక్ర iii. 94. అంకుడు n. He who is marked or distinguished గురుతుగలవాడు. మృగాంకుడు the moon.

(p. 35) aḍi aḍi. [Tel.] adj. Great, excessive; vain, useless. డిబీరపు aḍi-bīrapu. [Tel.] adj. Excessively proud. 'వడముడి భుజవిక్రమంబు వారలమనమె, పుడువిన మొకర్ణుని వినమొయడిబీరపుతులువ గెలుచునటె పాండవులన్.' M. VII. iv. 171.

(p. 39) aṇaka aṇaka. [Tel.] n. The act of bringing the yoke under the neck. అణకలు వేసికొను v. n. To go wrong, turn restive, as a bullock which turns the wrong way in the yoke. ఎద్దుగాని గుర్రముగాని నోగ కెదురు తిరుగు. 'వెగడొందిరవితేరి నమొగలగట్టినయట్టి వాహంబు లణకలువైచికొనియె.' విక్ర iv. 51. తిన్నగా జరగనీయక మటిమాటికి అణకలు వేసికొంటాడు instead of going on smoothly he now and then turns restive.

(p. 75) amōghamu a-mōghamu. [Skt.] adj. Fruitful, not vain, unerring, efficacious. సఫలమైన, నిరర్థకముకాని. he fell into a deep sleep. వానికి అమోఘవిక్రముడు a man of unerring valor.

(p. 76) ammu ammu [Tel.] v. a. To sell. విక్రయించు. అమ్మించు (causal of అమ్ము v. n. To sell.) To have a thing sold, get it disposed of. విక్రయింపజేయు. అమ్మకము ammakamu. [Tel.] n. Sale, selling, vending. విక్రయము. అమ్ముడు ammuḍu. adj. and n. Saleable, that which is to be sold. విక్రయింపదగినవిగానుండే. అమ్ముడుసరుకులు goods which are to be sold. అని యింకా అమ్ముడుపోలేదు they are not yet sold. అమ్ముడు పోవు v. i. To be sold. వెలకుపోవు.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 123) ārcu or అరచు ārṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To cry aloud, about, roar. కూయు, కేకవేయు. ఆర్చు or అరుచు v. a. To dry up, to quench, extinguish, to cool, dry, appease, allay, to heal or cure, destroy, to dry in the sun, to expose to heat, to cause to dry; to move to and fro. ఆడించు. to move the eyelid. పోకార్చు to ruin, destroy. విక్రయమార్చు to sell. BD. v. 526.

(p. 133) ikka ikka. [Tel.] n. Place, home, dwelling. 'చక్కదనాలయిక్క' (T. iv. 85.) She was the very home of the graces. ఒక్క యిక్క in one direction. మోవిక్క the lip. అధరమండలము.

(p. 169) uruviḍi uru-viḍi. [Tel.] n. A collection of things. వస్తు సమూహము. విక్ర. ii.

(p. 178) ṛtvikku , ఋత్విజుడు ṛitvikku. [Skt.] n. A priest appointed to perform particular rites at a sacrifice. There are 16 orders of Vedic priests, of whom only three (viz: ఉద్గాత, హోత, అధ్వర్యుడు.) are mentioned in Telugu works.

(p. 331) kausu or కవుసు kaunu. [Tel.] n. The waist. నడుము. The middle part of a bow. వింటినడుము. 'చ. పిడికెడుకౌసు గొప్పగని ప్రేమ త్రివిక్రమాంగి జేసితే, బిడికెడుకొను గొప్పుబయిజేర్చు గుణంబును గంటినంచు.' ఆము. i.

(p. 333) krayamu krayamu. [Skt.] n. Price. వెల. Purchase వెలయిచ్చికొనుట. కాలక్రయము the current price. క్రమముచేయు to dispose of, to sell. క్రయధనము the cost. క్రయపత్రము or క్రయచీటీ a sale deed. క్రయవిక్రయములు n. Buying and sell ing. క్రయవిక్రయికుడు one who buys and sells బేహారి. క్రయించు to buy కొను. క్రయికుడు a buyer విలువకాడు. క్రయ్యము goods exposed for sale క్రయమునకు పరుపబడిన సరుకు.

(p. 570) tribhaṅgi tri-bhangi. adj. 'Three ways' twisted. The name of a certain graceful attitude in which some statues stand: such as the వేణుగోపాల or Piping Apollo; or that given to the ద్వారపాలకులు or door keepers carved on each side of a temple gate. The word frequently occurs in books on sculpture (Silpi) and in some poems, but is no where precisely defined. త్రిభంగిన్, three fold: in three ways. మూడువిధములవునట్టుగాను Swa. iii. 76. త్రిభాగము tri-bhāgamu. adj. Divided into three parts or shares. త్రిభువనము or త్రిలోకము tri-bhuvanamu. n. The three worlds: heaven, earth, and hell, i.e., the universe. త్రిమూర్తి tri-mūrti. n. The Hindu Triad, consisting of Bramha, Vishnu, and Siva. త్రియామ tri-yāma. n. Night. M. VII. v. 317. త్రిరాత్రము tri-rātramu. n. Three nights, మూడురాత్రులు. త్రిలింగము tri-lingamu. adj. 'Three gendered.' -a phrase for Sanskrit nouns of the common gender. 'Three formed.' 'త్రిమూర్తుల త్రిలింగవ్యక్తులన్.' B. vii. 333. Also a fictitous or fanciful name (యౌగికపదము) used for the Telugu language. It is peculiar to Appa Cavi, and a few other modern writers, but is not mentioned in any ancient or classical poet: nor in any Sanskrit Dictionary, in lists of the 'fifty six countries.' See W. Vish. Pur. p. 193. In some modern lists Troilinga is named, but without any authority. త్రివర్గము a collection of three (things) as Duty (ధర్మము,) Wealth (అర్థము,) and Desire (కామము) or the Gunas called సత్వరజస్తమములు, or the states called Increase (వృద్ధి), Decrease (క్షయము), and Stationariness (స్థానము.) త్రివళి tri-vali. n. A threefold corrugation on the stomach considered a beauty in women. 'లితకృశోదరంబు తరశత్రివళీయుత రోమరాజియున్.' M. I. iv. 49. త్రివిక్రముడు tri-vikramuḍu. n. He who subjugated the three worlds in three strides, i.e., Vishnu. త్రివిష్టవము tri-vishtapamu. n. Heaven. స్వర్గము. త్రివేణి tri-vēṇi. n. Lit: The Triple braided, an epithet of the Ganges which according to mythology, springs in three streams from the head of Siva. త్రివేణుక or త్రివేణువు tri-vēṇuka. n. The bands of a carriage pole. నొగకట్లు. T. v. 16. M. VII. i. 302. త్రిశంకువు tri-ṣankuvu. n. Name of the father of the hero Harischandra. త్రిశంకుస్వర్గము the Aerial regions, the place of happiness created for త్రిశంకు who could not be admitted into heaven on account of his low origin. త్రిశూలము tri-ṣālamu. n. The three pronged weapon of Vishnu. త్రిషవణము tri-sharvaṇamu. n. The three ablutions, to be performed at morn, noon and night. M. XII. iv. 102. త్రిషవణస్నాయి he who bathes thrice a day. త్రిసప్త tri-sapta. adj. Thrice seven. BRY. iii. 19. త్తిసంధ్యము tri-sandhyamu. n. The meeting times of forenoon, the noon and the afternoon. పూర్వాహ్న మధ్యాహ్న అపరాహ్న సంధ్యలు.

(p. 577) dakku dakku. [Tel.] v. n. To be available for enjoyement. అనుభివయోగ్యమగు. To fall to one's share or lot; to be saved, to escape. adj. Enjoyable. అనుభయోగ్యము. మీ ప్రాణములు దక్కవు your lives will not be saved. ఈ రూకలు దక్కనిచ్చేదారిలేదు I have no chance of keeping the money. దక్కొను dak-konu. (దక్కు+కొను.) v. n. To be independent. స్వంతంత్రుడగు. To happen, కలుగు. విక్ర. ii. దక్కించు dakkinṭsu. v. a. To rescue, preserve, defend, save, get, redeem. దక్కించుకొను. I get into one's possession, appropriate. to have. To secure for oneself. To digest. ఆ యిల్లు తనకు దక్కించుకొన్నాడు he got the house into his own hands. దక్కోలు dak-kōlu. n. Occurrence. కలుగుట, సంభవించుట. adj. Taken, usurped: స్వాధీనమైన. Possible, feasible, attainable. దక్కోలుగానిచ్చు dakkōlu-gā-n-iṭsṭsu. v. a. To offer in sacrifice: to present as a gift to a god. దక్కోలుపడు Same as దక్కొను.

(p. 812) pori pori. [Tel.] n. Same as పొలి. (q. v.) adj. Strong, great. అత్యంతము. adv. Exceedingly, very much. మిక్కిలి, అత్యంతము. Firmly, దృఢముగా. Duly, regularly, క్రమముగా. Often, మాటిమాటికి, తరుచుగా. Again, మళ్లీ. 'శ్రీనివాసమును క్షేత్రంబుగల పూర్ణమూర్తి బొరి పూజింతును.' H. iv. 297. పొరిగొను pori-gonu. v. a. To kill, slay, చంపు. To ruin, destroy, నాశముచేయు. To conquer, జయించు. 'బలవిక్రమఘనులగు దొర, లీల్గినమనసేన మేడినీశ్వరవిను కన్నులు సెడినట్లున్నది యిక్కొలదిం బొరిగొనుట నరునకు సుకరమగున్.' M. IX. i. 60. పొరిచూపు pori-ṭsūpu. n. A fierce look, భయంకరమైనచూపు. An envious look an inimical attitude, భేదదృష్టి. పొరి చూపుమాటలు pori-ṭsūpu-māṭalu. n. plu. Taunting words. పొరిపొరి pori-pori. adv. (anuk.) More and more, much more. Repeatedly, again and again, over and over. మిక్కిలి, మరీమరీ, మాటిమాటికి.' రమణి పొరిపొరి కన్నీరు క్రమ్మజుట్టి, మెలగి కాకులగ్రద్దల దలగ నడిచుచున్నయిది.' M.
