(p. 120) ārati ārati. [Tel.] n. An oblation or wave offering, an offering of lights or of water, turmeric and chunam waved over a deity or over any individual to take off the supposed ill effects of the evil looks. హారతి or మంగళహారతి. (This ceremony answers to lustration or sprinkling with holy water.)

(p. 244) kappa kappa. [Tel.] n. A frog. ఉరుకుకప్ప or చిరికప్ప a chunam frog or flying frog. బోదురుకప్ప the bull frog. తలకప్ప a tadpole. బాపనకప్ప a frog that in croaking produces a sound like పప్పు పప్పు. కంసాలికప్ప one that produces a sound like tick, tuck. చాకలికప్ప one that produces a sound like ugm, ugm. రాచకప్ప and గోదురుకప్ప are other species. Various species of fish are called కప్పలు. See Russell, plates 19 to 20. కప్పకురుపు kappa-kurupu. n. An abscess in the heel. కప్పచిప్ప kappa-chippa. n. A bivalve shell. నీటిగుల్ల.

(p. 1399) kalava kalava. [Tel.] n. A mixture of sand and chunam. ఇనుకయు నున్నమును కలపిసది.

(p. 418) ciri or చిరు chiri. [Tel.] adj. Small, trifling, little, delicate, slight. చిరిచెమట gentle perspiration: చిరియెండ the gentle warmth of the morning or evening sun. చిరికప్ప chiri-kappa. n. A small frog, the wall frog, chunam frog or flying frog. చిరికూర chiri-kūra. n. A herb called Amaranthus polygonoides. Rox. iii. 602. చిరికొండి chiri-konḍi. n. A small knot చిన్నసిగ. చిరిట chiriṭa. n. The stopper of a bottle. చిరితాళము chiri-tālamu. n. A small lock or bell. చిటితాళము. [In all the compounds here, చిరి may be written చిరు] చిరితొడ the thinner part of the thigh, the leg.

(p. 699) paṭṭe or పట్టియ paṭṭe. [Tel.] n. A spar of wood. పలక. A piece of wood that forms the frame of a cot. Hair left on the head at the time of tonsure. A fold in a turban or dress. A tape. A stripe or streak of paint, రేఖ. A facet or side of a diamond, పక్క. A gold hand or fillet worn on the forehead, at the time of one's coronation, పట్టము. Ceiling, మిద్దె యిండ్లమీద పరిచే మ్రాను మొదలగునది. A brush, కుంచె. తాటిపట్టె a palmyra rafter. నవారు పట్టె a broad tape. పట్టెమంచము a cot the bottom of which is woven with broad tape. పట్టెతీయు to use the harrow. నున్నపుపట్టె a streak of chunam. పట్టెలు తీర్చినకెంపు a ruby cut into facets. ద్వార బంధువుపట్టె the lintel or top of a door. టంగుపట్టె a girth. యోగపట్టె a hermit's girdle. ఒకపట్టెనేల a piece of land. నీరుపారేపట్టె a canal or water course. పట్టెమారుపు check-colors in a cloth. వస్త్రములోని ఒకవిధమైన చిత్రవర్ణము. పట్టె వర్ధనము paṭṭe-vardhanamu. n. A broad caste-mark worn in the forehead, వెడల్పుగా నుండుబొట్టు.

(p. 710) para para. [Tel.] n. A measure with which chunam, &c., is measured. A salt marsh, ఉప్పుపండుబయలు, పర్ర. A plain, బయలు. ఇసుకపర a sandy plain. ఇసుకపరగానుండే sandy. A series, వరుస. (p. 742) pārāṇi pārāṇi. [Tel.] n. Turmeric mixed with chunam smeared by women on their feet at a wedding. Decorating the feet with saffron powder, &c. Red dye applied by women to the instep. పాదముల యందు కుంకుమాద్య లంకరణము. పారాణించు pārāṇinṭsu. v. a. To decorate the feet by reddening the instep.

(p. 778) pūje pūje. [Tel.] n. Painting or filagree work on pots. A bead or spangle: particularly, drops or beads of gold attached to golden jewels. Flourishes or ornaments in a manuscript. Illumination. ఘటాదులమీదిచిత్రము. కుండకు పూజెలుపెట్టిరి the pot is painted with chunam, ochre, &c. Metaphorically a flogging. నీకు పూజెలు కావలెనా do you want a thrashing? పూజెకాగులు or పూజెకుండలు pūje-kāgulu. (పూజె+కాగులు.) n. Painted pots, అయిరేని కుండలు. పూజెచేయు to paint pots, &c., ఘటాదులమీద చిత్రించు.
