(p. 262) kavacamu kavachamu. [Skt.] n. Armour, a cover, a leather cover or case. The coating or sheathing of a boat. మంత్రకవచము an amulet, a prayer or phylactery for the safety of the body.

No. 230. రామచిలక. The Rose-ringed Paroquet, Palaeornis torquatus (so called because taught to reiterate the name of Rāma.) అకుచిలక the Western Blossom-headed Paroquet, Palacornis cyanōecphalus. The name is given to some insects, as a moth, thus, ఆకుచిలక, వడ్లచిలక a moth. గడ్డిచిలక, సీతాకోకచిలక a butterfly. A padlock. The bolt or hasp of a door, because these originally had parrot's heads on them. చిలుకల కొలికి a bright-eyed girl or woman. చక్కని స్త్రీ. చిలకకూర or చిలకతోటకూర chilaka-kūra. n. A kind of pot-herb, Amarantus fasciatus. (Watts.) చిలక, చిలకట or చిలుకడ chilaka. n. A saddle buckle: a ring at the end of the rope used as a girth of the bullock saddle through which the other end is passed to fasten the saddle. కొలికిముడి. చిలకడతాడు chilakada-tāḍu. n. A girth. ఎద్దుమీదికందళము, గంతబిగించేతాడు. చిలకకొయ్య or చిలుకకొయ్య chilaka-koyya. n. A wooden pin fixed in the wall, on which articles are suspended. చిలగడ chilagaḍa. (చిలుక+గడ.) n. The cord that fastens a dagger, to prevent its falling out of the sheath. చిలకతాళము chilaka-tāḷamu. n. A padlock. చిలకతాళి or చిలుకతాళి chilaka-tāḷi. n. A gold buckle in the form of a pair of parrots. చిలుకదుదుడి chilaka-duduḍi. n. The name of a certain tree. చిలకపచ్చ chilaka-paṭsṭsa. n. Bright green, parrot green. చిలకమొక్క or చిలకముక్కు chilaka-mokka. n. (lit. Parrot's bill.) A plant called crotolaria. శుకాననము, శుకనాస. Heyne, 130. The purple red and white scentless flower called Balsam. చిలకరౌతు chilaka-rautu. n. Lit: He whose steed is the parrot: an epithet of మన్మథ the god of love. చిలుక కోణము chiluka-kōṃamu. n. (p. 729) paśuvu paṣuvu. [Skt.] n. A beast, an animal, నాలుగుకాళ్లజంతువు. A domestic animal such as a cow, buffalo, goat, or sheep. పశువులకొట్టము a cow house. పశుభావము simplicity. పశుకృత్యము a brutal act. పశుఘ్నుడు a slayer of animals. పశుజనము the profane or brute folk, i.e., the heathen, the heterodox, or uninitiated. పశుపతి paṣu-pati. n. A name of Siva, as the master or ruler of all living creatures. పశుప్రాయుడు a brutish or ignorant man.

(p. 1015) mūta mūta. [Tel from మూయు.] n. Shutting, closing, covering, మూయుట. A cover, lid, top. A valve, any little door as that of a lantern. The cover or parchment of a drum. మూయునది. మూతపడు or మూతలుపడు mūta-paḍu. v. n. To be closed, మూసికొనిపోవు. అతని చెవులు మూతలుపడినవి his ears were stunned, his ears tingled. మూతపొడువు mūta-poḍuvu. n. A kind of game. ఒక ఆట. 'దాయాలుసొగటాలు దాట్రాయి చదరంగమును పోటురాళ్లును, మూతపొడువు, వామనగుంటలు.' H. iii.191. మూతబల్ల mūta-balla. n. A sheathing plank that closes up the ends of the rafters of a pent roof. ఇంటి ముంజూరును మూయుబల్ల, వాచూరుపట్టె.

(p. 1130) vara vara. [Tel.] n. A limit. మేర. పర్యంతము. ఇదివరలో before this time. అదివరలో before that time. [for ఒర.] Kind, sort. ఈ వరబంగారు gold of this kind. A kind of grain, ధాన్యవిశేషము. వర (for ఒర.) n. A scabbard, a sheath. ఖడ్గకోశము. వరదూయు to unsheath or draw out of the scabbard. పోయినది వర ఉండేది కత్తియనియెంచు what we have lost is the mere sheath but what we have got is the very blade, i.e. he who is dead is nothing to his successor. వరకట్టు vara-katte. v. n. To test gold by rubbing it on a touchstone. Also, to prepare land for cultivation. వరగొడ్డము vara-goḍḍamu. (వర+గొడ్డము.) n. A crooked word, వంకరమాట. వరకు or వరకును vara-ku. postp.
