(p. 129) āsakti ā-sakti. [Skt.] n. Love, attachment, inclination, longing, whim. ఆస. Diligence. శ్రద్ధ. ఆసక్తము ā-saktamu. adj. Inclined to, devoted to one object, diligent. active, addicted to. ఆసక్తుడు ā-saktuḍu. n. An aspirant, devotee, lover. A man of diligence. ఆసక్తికలవాడు.

(p. 715) parāyaṇamu parāyaṇamu. [Skt.] n. A prop, support, ప్రాపు. Devotion, addiction to. తత్పరత, ఆశ్రయము. adj. Eager, devoted to, అబీష్టము. పరాయణుడు parāya-ṇuḍu. n. An aspirant to, one devoted to, a candidate. ఆసక్తికలవాడు. జల్పపరాయణుడు one addicted to chattering 'బోగైక పరాయణల్.' M. IV. iii. 33.

(p. 721) paruḍu paruḍu. [Skt.] n. Another man, one's neighbour, an alien, a stranger. అన్యుడు. An enemy, శత్రువు. God, పరమాత్ముడు. adj. Addicted to, attached to, a lover of. పరులపాలయిన alienated, given to others. సత్యపరుడు one given to (or addicted to) truth. ముక్తిపరుడు one devoted to holiness, bent upon salvation. చిత్తచాంచల్యపరుడు one addicted to change of mind. శస్త్రాస్త్రపరుడు a lover or arms and weapons. అత్యాశపరుడై being very avaricious. కుతూహలపరులైరి they were full of joy. యజ్ఞపరుడు bent upon performing a sacrifice. M. XII. v. 479. నీతిపరుడు a righteous man. పాపపరుడు one addicted to wickedness. పరహననపరుడు a murderer. కైంకర్యపరుడు one who delights in worship. న్యాయపరుడు a just, upright, or honest man. దానపరుడు a charitable man. భక్తిపరుడు a pious man. ధర్మపరుడు a righteous man. యుక్తిపరుడు a man of tact, a clever or ingenious man.

(p. 729) pasa pasa. [Tel.] n. Sap, essence, సారము. Bloom, vigour, brilliancy, నిగ్గు. కాంతి. సత్త, సారస్యము. Abundance, సమృద్ధి. Skill, చాతుర్యము. 'వగుమొగము మెరుంగులు దశదిశలంబసలు కొలుప జిరునగవుమెరయ.' B. viii. 419. 'ఇవ్వెలదులయందు కూర్మిపస వీనికి నేమియులేదు.' Swa. vi. 74. టీ. కూర్మిపస. అనురాగాతిశయము. పసపడు pasa-paḍu. To be inclined, addicted to, devoted to. రుచిమరుగు. 'పంచేంద్రియముల పసబడకున్న, ముంచువిధంబున మాయునామాయ.' L. v. 2.

The male of certain birds, animals and plants, పశు పక్షులలోమగది. ఆబోతు an ox, వృషభము. ఎనుబోతు a male buffalo. మేకపోతు a he-goat, a ram. నక్కపోతు a male fox. గొడ్డుపోతు a barren woman. పోతుటీగ a male fly. పోతుటేనుగు a male elephant. పోతుకరుడు the bigger surf, పెద్దఅల. పోతుతాడు the male palm tree. పోతురౌతు, an epithet of Yama, the god of Death, యముడు. పోతుపిల్ల, a male young one. పశుజాతిలో మగపిల్ల. పోతుపిల్లి a tom cat. పోతు sometimes means one who is addicted to, as తాగుబోతు a drunkard. తిండిబోతు a glutton. తూగుపోతు a sluggard వదురుబోతు a chatter box. పోతుపిచ్చిక or పెద్దపిచ్చిక pōtu-pichchika. n. The Ashy-crowned Finch Lark. Pyrrhulauda grisca. (F.B.I.) పోతురాజు or పోతరాజు pōtu-rāḍsu. n. The name of a rustic god, like Pan, worshipped throughout the Telugu, Canarese and Mahratta countries. He represents the male principle associated with the village goddesses Gangamma, Peddamma, &c. A proverb says పాడుఊరికి మంచపుకోడుపోతురాజు in a ruined village the leg of a cot is a god. cf., 'a Triton of the minnows' (Shakespeare.) బమ్మెరపోతరాజు the name of a certain poet. పోతులరాజు pōtula-rāḍzu. n. A name given to a large hound.

(p. 866) baddhamu baddhamu. [Skt.] adj. Tied, bound. కట్టబడిన. బద్ధవైరము rancour, fixed hatred. బద్ధాంజలులై with clasped hands, i.e., very humbly. బద్ధము or బద్దము baddhamu. [Tel. Colloq.] n. A boundary, limit. వానికి ఒకబద్దమా is he bound by any conditions? సుద్దిబద్దములేనివాడు an unprincipled man. బద్ధుడు baddhuḍu. adj. Bound, obliged. కర్మబద్ధుడు one who is addicted to religious rites. అజ్ఞాబద్ధుడు bound to obedience.

(p. 956) maragu or మరుగు maragu [Tel.] v. n. and a. To use, to be used, accustomed, or addicted to. అలవాటుపడు, పరిచితమగు. To desire, covet, ఆశించు, ఆశపడు. To boil fiercely, మసలకాగు. To fall in love with, to be enamoured of, మోహించు, ఆసక్తుడగు. వాడు దానిని మరగినాడు he fell in love with her. తాగమరిగినవాడు one who is addicted to drink. మరగుచున్నచమురు boiling oil. మరగకాగు to boil fiercely. 'కరుగు చమరుగుచు కటకటాయనుచు, కందుచుగుందుచు కళవళింపుచును.' L. viii. 52. 'వాలిమృతుడౌట పోలగనాలో లక్ష్మణుడెరంగి యర్కజుతోడం, బాలుడువోలెందాలిమి మాలియిదేమిటికివనట మరిగెద వింకన్.' BRK. x. 343. మరపడము or మరపుట mara-paḍamu. n. Training, breaking in. అలవాటు చేయడము. మరపు marapu. v. a. To train, break in. అలవాటుచేయు. మరపరాని untameable, indomitable. మరగించు maragintsu. v. a. To enamour. మోహింపజేయు. To cause to boil. కాగించు.

(p. 1382) hattu , అత్తు, హత్తుకొను or అత్తుకొను hattu. [Tel.] v. n. To adhere to, come in contact with, take to, be attached or addicted to, succeed, attain, approach. అంటుకొను, సక్తమగు, పొందు, కలుగు, డాయు, అంటు, తగులుకొను, సఫలమగు. 'హత్తుకొని యొక్కకొమదరనత్తెరవుంగట్టబనిచి.' A. vi. 96. హత్తించు hattinṭsu. v. a. To attach, join, touch. అంటుకొనునట్లుచేయు, సక్తముచేయు, లగింపజేయు. 'చిత్తముహరిహత్తించిన.' N. iv. 161.
