(p. 78) araḍā araḍā. [Tel.] n. The brass or gold mouth of a scabbard. A particular kind of neck jewel. Also, the lion's heads at the ends of the pole of Hindu marriage palankeen. కర్నాటకపల్లకీ బొంగుకొనుకువేసే సింహలలాటములు.

(p. 212) ora ora. [Tel.] n. Touch, rubbing. Trial of metal by touch. Likeness పోలిక. A case, sheath, scabbard. తలగడ ఒర a pillow case. A ring of clay, thus ఒరలనుయ్యి a well built with rings of baked earth. See ఒరగొను & ఒరపెట్టు.

(p. 330) kōśamu kōṣamu. [Skt.] n. A repository. receptacle, place: the inside. A sheath, scabbard. కత్తివర. The cocoon or bag containing the silk worm. An egg గుడ్డు. కకోశమునందు silkr worm. హృదయకోశమునందు within the heart: at the bottom of one's heart. అండకోశము the scrotum.

(p. 331) kōsu kōsu. [Eng.] n. A cabbage. Brassica Oleracca. (Watts.) ఆకుకోసు lettuce. మట్టకోసు cauliflower.

(p. 564) tōṭa tōṭa. [Tel.] n. A garden. తోటకాపు, తోటమాలి, తోటవాడు or తోటీడు' a gardener. తోటకూర tōṭa-kūra. n. Greens, garden herbs. The green produce of a garden is divided into ఆకుకూరలు or తోటకూరలు vegetables, the leaf of which is eaten, such as spinach and cabbage: and కాయకూరలు of which the pod, fruit, or head is eaten, such as brinjals, cucumbers, &c. కొయ్యతోటకూర or కొయ్యగూర is the phrase for all such plants as sprout after being cut, like camomile: and పెరుగుతోటకూర is the class of herbs which do not send forth shoots after being cut. తోటకూర is also a particular herb, called Braid in French. Amaranthus Tristis, (Rox. iii. 604.) Amaranthus gangeticus, or Amaranthus oleraccus. పెద్దతోటకూర Amaranthus giganteus. దొగ్గలితోటకూర Amaranthus polygamus. ముళ్లతోటకూర or నల్లదొగ్గలితోటకూర the Pricklly Amaranth, Amaranthus spinosus. ఎర్రకోడిజుట్టు తోటకూర or మయూరశిఖి Celosia cristata (Watts.) సిగ్గనగా తోటకూరవంటిది modesty grows anew in the heart like a cropped herb. తోటకూరవంటి like mere green stuff, i.e., weak, feeble తోటకూరవంటిపని a mere greenherb business. తోటకూరగింజవంటిది small as a mustard seed.

(p. 605) dūyu or దుయ్యు dūyu. [Tel.] v. a. To penetrate, go through. గుచ్చుకొను. To pull off the scabbard, as a sword. To take palm leaves out of a volume. ఊడదీయు to strip off leaves or boughs. To pluck, take, as a handful of grass. వరదూసి pulling off the scalbard. దెబ్బ దూసిపోయినది the blow glanced off. పేగులు దిస్సిరాపొడిచి stabbed him so that the bowels came out. Pal. 424. దూయుతీగె Same as దుశ్శిరము. (q. v.) దూయించు dūyinṭsu. (causal of దూయు.) v. a. To draw across, to pass over. కాలినగడ్డపారచేత దూయించెను he passed a hot iron over the hand. (This is a ceremony of ordeal in oaths, quite distinct from cauterizing.) దూసిపోవు to go through or penetrate. To glance off, as a dart.

(p. 1130) vara vara. [Tel.] n. A limit. మేర. పర్యంతము. ఇదివరలో before this time. అదివరలో before that time. [for ఒర.] Kind, sort. ఈ వరబంగారు gold of this kind. A kind of grain, ధాన్యవిశేషము. వర (for ఒర.) n. A scabbard, a sheath. ఖడ్గకోశము. వరదూయు to unsheath or draw out of the scabbard. పోయినది వర ఉండేది కత్తియనియెంచు what we have lost is the mere sheath but what we have got is the very blade, i.e. he who is dead is nothing to his successor. వరకట్టు vara-katte. v. n. To test gold by rubbing it on a touchstone. Also, to prepare land for cultivation. వరగొడ్డము vara-goḍḍamu. (వర+గొడ్డము.) n. A crooked word, వంకరమాట. వరకు or వరకును vara-ku. postp. Until, as far as, పర్యంతము. ఇదివరకు until this. అదివరకు so far, until that time. ఆవరకే పారిపోయియుండిరి they had already fled. ఎంతవరకు to what extent? how far? ఆయన చనిపోయేవరకు up to the time of his death. నేను వచ్చేవరకు until I come. వర or ఒర vara. n. The large circular ring of pottery sunk in a small well, to prevent the earth from falling in. నూతికి పెట్టేవి.
