(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 434) cētāḷamu chē-tāḷamu. [Tel. చేయి+Skt. తాళము.] n. Clapping the hands. చేతాళము or చేతాళీయము adj. Artificial, not natural. చేతాళింగము an artificial lingam: a truncated cylinder: also called అనాది, in contradiction to the స్వయంభువు or conical form.

(p. 503) taḍaka or తడిక taḍaka. [Tel.] n. A framework, a screen, a hurdle, what is called a tatty. A gate made of open bars, a mat used as a door. తప్పులతడక a pack of contradictions, a parcel of blunders, a heap or tissue of falsehoods.

(p. 657) nirasanamu nirasanamy. [Skt.] n. Rejection, denial, contradiction, disallowance. కాదనడము, ఆక్షేపము, తిరస్కారము. నిరసించు nirasintṣu. v. a. To reject, deny, contradict, set aside or disallow. తిరస్కరించు, విడుచు, నిరస్తము nirastamu. adj. Expelled, sent out, thrown out, cast out. Rejected, loosened (as a knot) పోగొట్టబడిన, నిరస్తపాపము sin that is removed.

(p. 827) pratikāramu or ప్రతిక్రియ prati-kāramu. [Skt.] n. A return of offices, either good, or bad. Revenge, retaliation. Remedying, counteracting. A remedy, an antidote, what averts a spell. మారుచేయుట. ప్రలికారవచనము a contradictory expression. S. iii. 360.

(p. 828) pratighaṭiñcu prati-ghaṭinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To oppose, ఎదిరించు. ప్రతిఘటితము pratighaṭitamu. adj. Opposed, contradicted.

(p. 829) pratibandhamu prati-bandhamu. [Skt.] n. An obstacle, impediment, hindrance. ప్రతి బంధకము prati-bandhakamu. adj. Impeding, obstructing. n. An obstacle, impediment, hindrance. వర్షప్రతిబంధకము hindrance caused by rain, or delay of rain. ప్రతిభంధించు prati-bandhinṭsu. v. n. To act against, hinder, obstruct, contradict, అడ్డగించు. అందుకీ సూత్రము ప్రతిబంధించుచున్నది this rule is against it.

(p. 830) pratīpamu pratīpamu. [Skt.] adj. Disobedient, refractory, perverse, cross, contradictory. విరుద్ధమైన. ప్రతీపభూపుడు the leader of the hostile host. శత్రురాజు. 'ప్రతీపభూపసంగ్రామరాజమౌళినమ్ర.' R. i. 53. ప్రతీపుడు pratīpuḍu. n. An enemy, adversary. శత్రువు.

(p. 957) maru maru. [Tel.] n. In composition, short for మరుగు, మరస. and మారు. adj. Other, next, in return. మరునాడు or మర్నాడు (మరుసటినాడు) next day. మరుమాట' (మారు + మాట) a word in return, contradiction. వేమరు or వేమారు a thousand times. మరుపడు maru-paḍu. (మరుగు + పడు) v. n. To be concealed, to disappear or vanish, మరుగగు, అదృశ్యమగు. 'ఇనుమండలంబు మరుపడనొనరించెద.' M. VII. iv. 315. మరుపెట్టు maru-peṭṭa. v. a. To conceal, hide. మరుగుచేయు. మరుమ్రోత maru-mrōta. (మారు + మ్రోత.) n. An echo.

(p. 1163) vikaṭamu vikaṭamu. [Skt.] adj. large, great, విస్తీర్ణమైన, గొప్ప, విరళమైన. Very crooked, మిక్కిలివంకరైన. Horrible, frightful. Changed in form or appearance. Reverse, contrary. విరుద్ధరూపముగల, విరుద్ధమైన. 'భామనీయధరాధరప్రవాశము వాని వికటదంతములకర్పించదగునె.' S. i. 52. వికటకవి vikata-kavi. n. A jester, a buffoon. ఏదాడంటే కోదాడనేవాడు, వికటముగా మాటాటునాడు, మాస్యకడు. వికటించు vikaṭinṭsu. v. n. To contradict. To disagree with the health. విరుద్ధమగు. గిట్టకపోవు. 'కరణముల ననుసరించకవిరసంబున తిన్నతిండి వికటించుసుమీ.' Sumati. 55. 'కరణముగ్రామాభరణము, కరణముతన్నేలుపతికి కమఠాభరణ స్ఫురణమతడువికటించినమరిమరి కావులకుమిగుల మరణముసుమతీ.' ib. 121.

(p. 1180) vipralāpamu vi-pra-lāpamu. [Skt.] n. A self-contradictory expression or statement, nonsense, పరస్పరవిరుద్ధమైనమాట.

(p. 1186) viruguḍu viruguḍu. n. An antidote, a remedy, విరుపు, నివారణము. విరగడ or విరుగడ vira-gaḍa. n. Release, liberation, setting at liberty. విడుదల. నీకు యింకా ఆ తొందర విరగడకాలేదా? are you not yet free from that trouble. నేటితో ఈ కష్టములు విరగడైనవి to-day these ills have ended. విరగబడు or విరుగబడు viraga-baḍu. v. n. To be puffed up or haughty. గర్వపడు, బోర్లపడు. విరుగుపాటు or విరగపాటు viru-ga-pāṭu. n. Pride, haughtiness, గర్వము, బోర్లబడుట. విరుచు viruṭsu. v. a. To cause to break, to break. To counteract poison. విరుగజేయు, భగ్నముచేయు. మాటు వేసిరసమును గాని విషమునుగాని విరిగిపోవునట్లుచేయు. నెటికలు to crack or snap the finger joints. విరుచు twist the tail. పెదవివిరుచు to turn up the lip in scorn. మండలువిరిచినాడు he broke the branches off a tree. 'చెలిమియొనర్పగా వలదె యీనిన్నంచు వెనుల్కికెమ్మాని విరిచెనొకతె.' Ila. iv. 29. విరపనగొయ్య or విరుగనికొయ్య virapana-goyya. n. A stubborn wretch.మొండివాడు. విరుపు virupu. n. A break, or the act of breaking. An objection, contradiction. విరుచుట, భగ్నము, అడ్డము, ఆక్షేపణ, మెడవిరుపులు a puzzle, stumbling block. మోనివిరుపులు turning up the lip in scorn. adj. Counteracting, విరుగుడు. విరుచుకొను viruṭsu-konu. (middle voice, with passive sense.) To be defeated. అదండు వెనకకు విరుచుకొనిపోయినది the army was broken and retreated. ఒళ్లువిరుచుకొన్నాడు he stretched himself through weariness. ఈ కొంచెముపనికి ఏల యెముకలువిరుచుకొంటావు why do you break your bones, i.e., take so much trouble for this trifling business.

(p. 1186) viruddhamu vi-ruddhamu. [Skt.] adj. Opposed, opposite, reverse, contrary, inconsistent, contradictory, disagreeing with another, hostile, inimical, unfriendly, విరోధముగల. ప్రతికూలమైన, అసంగతమైన, విపరీతమైన, n. Opposition, contrariety, incongruity, enmity. ప్రతికూలత, ఆసంగతము, శత్రుత్వము, విరోధము.

(p. 1187) virōdhamu vi-rōdhamu. [Skt.] n. Difference, opposition, contradiction, disagreement, discrepancy, enmity, animosity.
