(p. 93) avatariñcu ava-tarinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To come down, to get down into. దిగు. To be born. పుట్టు. To appear, to put on a form, to become incarnate. అవతారమెత్తు. విష్ణువు మత్స్యముగా అవతరించెను Vishnu appeared as a fish. కృష్ణుడుగా అవతరించెను he was born as Krishna, or he appeared as Krishna or he put on the form of Krishna. అవతారము ava-tāramu. [Skt.] n. Incarnation, metamorphosis. The descent of a deity from heaven in a particular shape, the appearance of any deity upon earth, origin. దేవుడు రూపాంతరమును ఎత్తడము. విష్ణువు ఎత్తిన దశావతారములు the ten incarnations of Vishnu. రామావతారమెత్తినప్పుడు when he appeared on earth as Rama. వాడు గర్వావతారము he is pride incarnate, అది క్షామావతారము she is the genius of famine. (Shakesp. 2. Hen. IV. act. 3.) 'famine in the abstract, famine embodied, or personified.' అవతారపురుషుడు avatāra-purushuḍu. n. A god man, a divinē being in human form. మహాత్ముడు.

(p. 126) āḷvāru āḷvāru. [Drav.] n. A Vaishnava name for a saint. The Alwars or saints were twelve in number and are considerd to have been incarnations of the attendants, arms, or insignia of Vishnu: each of them wrote a portion of the 'Dravida Prabandham,' or 'Tamil Veda' help in greater veneration that the original Sanskrit Veda, of which it is, in fact, an ancient Tamil translation (Ellis.) The పరమయోగివిలాసము is a history of these personages. A hawk is sometimes called గరుడాళ్వారు.

(p. 221) aupādhikamu aupādhikamu. [Skt. from ఉపాధి.] adj. Temporary, not permanent. That which arises from circumstances. ఔపాధికశక్తి official authority: the power that circumstance or situation gives: ఔపాధిక శరీరము a bodily form assumed for a while, as in an incarnation.

(p. 259) kalki kalki. [Skt.] n. The name of the last incarnation of Vishṇu. కలికి అవతారము. కల్కి kalki. [Tel.] n. Prettiness. A lady. See కలికి. కల్కితనము See కలికితనము.

(p. 892) buddhuḍu buddhuḍu. n. A generic name for a deified teacher of the Buddhist sect. The name is especially applied to Gautama, the founder of Buddhism, who has been treated in the Puranas as the ninth incarnation of Vishṇu.

(p. 1132) varāhamu varāhamu. [Skt.] n. A boar or hog. అడవిపంది. వరాహావతారము the third incarnation of Vishnu in the shape of a boar. వరాహకూర్చము (or, vulgarly వరాకట్టె) varāha-kūrchamu. n. A brush made of hog's bristles.

(p. 1153) vāmanamu vāmanamu. [Skt.] adj. Dwarfish, short. పొట్టి. n. A tree termed ఊడుగుచెట్టు. నామనకాకి vāmana-kāki. n. The green billed Cuckoo. వామనకాయలు or వామనములు vāmana-kāyalu. n. plu. The name of a certain fruit used as a pickle. ఊరగాయవేసే ఒకవిధమైన కాయలు. Tender tamarind fruit, లేతచింతకాయలు. వామనగుంటలు vāmana-gunṭalu. n. A tablet with fourteen holes for playing at a kind of game. గవ్వలుగాని చింతగింజలు మొదలైనవాటినిగాని వేసి ఆడే రెండు వరసలుగా నేడెసి. గుంటలుగలపీట. వామనపాతుకాడు vāmana-pātu-kāḍu. A kind of bird. వామనావతారము vāman-āvatāramu. n. The fifth incarnation of Vishnu as a dwarf. విష్ణువుయొక్క అయిదవ అవతారము. వామనీకృతము vāmanī-kritamu. adj. Shortened. stunted. పొట్టిగాచేయబడిన. వామనుడు vāmanuḍu. n. A dwarf. పొట్టివాడు. An epithet of Vishṇu, విష్ణువు.

(p. 1231) vyaktamu vyaktamu. [Skt.] adj. Apparent, clear, manifest, evident, disclosed, revealed, distinct, specified, తెల్లమైన, స్పష్టమైన, ప్రకాశితమైన, తెలియబడిన. వ్యక్తత or వ్యక్తత్వము vyaktata. n. Distinctness, manifestation. స్పష్టత. వ్యక్తి vyakti. n. An incarnation, జాతికివేరై జాతికి ఆశ్రయమైన స్వరూపము, పృథక్స్వరూపము. An individual, a person, a man, జనుడు. ఒకడు. Manifestation, స్పష్టము. 'భక్తహితార్థమై ప్రభవించెనీకు, వ్యక్తిగాజెప్పితి వగవకుమింక.' BD. i. 477. వ్యక్తిగా, అనగా స్పష్టముగా. 'భక్తునకును దోడు పరిచారునిచ్చి, వ్యక్తిసందర్శనాసక్తినేతెంచి.' ib. v. 444. వ్యక్తుడు vyaktuḍu. n. A man of the world, a man of understanding. తెలిసివాడు, తెలివిగలాడు. వ్యక్తురాలు vyaktu-r-ālu n. A clever woman, a woman of understanding. తెలివిగలది.
