(p. 18) akaṭavikaṭamu akaṭa-vikaṭamu. [Tel.] adj. Adverse, contrary, awkard, inverted, contrariwise. తారుమారైన, విరుద్ధమైన, ప్రతికూలమైన, అకటవికటమైన మాట an incoherent speech, a prevarication, అకటవికటపు మాటలాడుట to shuffle, prevaricate, అకటవికటమైన పని an awkward, confused or troublesome affair.

(p. 181) ekku ekku. [Tel.] v. a. & n. To rise, increase, swell. To appear (by its effects as wine, water, poison, or medicine.) To affect the mind. To prevail as a report; to come to notice వాని తలకు మదము ఎక్కినది he is beside himself with pride or lust. వానికి మత్తెక్కినది he is intoxicated. వడ్డియెక్కినది interest has accrued. ఎక్కినవడ్డి the interest that accrued. వాని దుష్టగుణములు నీకు ఎక్కినవి you have caught his bad habits, or, followed his example. వార్తకెక్కు to become the theme or topic of discourse. వన్నెకెక్కినాడు he became celebrated, rose to distinction. వాసికెక్కిన celebrated, honoured. ఎన్నికకెక్కినాడు one who has risen to reputation. పది గంటలపొద్దు ఎక్కిన వేళ when it was ten o'clock, lit. when the sun has mounted (to) ten hours. ఆ పనికి ఎవరును ఎక్కలేదు no one came forward, or volunteered for the business. అతని మాట యెక్కదు his word will not do, or avail. తలకు నీళ్లెక్కి ౛లుబుగానున్నది the water has got into the head and I have a cold. To mount on, get upon. మంచమెక్కు to take to one's bed. ఎక్కుకొను ekku-konu. v. a. To mount on ఆరోహించు.

(p. 211) oppiñcu oppinṭsu. [Tel. from ఒప్పు] v. a. To cause to consent: to prevail on. To assign or make over, commit, entrust స్వాధీనపరచు, వశముచేయు, ఒప్పగించు.

(p. 710) payara , పయ్యర or పైర payara. [Tel.] n. A zephyr, a cool wind, చల్లగాలి. A south wind, దక్షిణపుగాలి. పయరపంట is a term for those crops which are grown in the season when this breeze prevails. దక్షిణపుగాలిచేత పండేకందులు పెసలు మినుములు మొదలైనవాటి పంట. పయరపొగాకు early tobacco, that which is grown in spring.

(p. 811) poralu , పొర్లు, పొరలాడు, పొర్లాడు, పొరలబడు or పొర్లబడు poralu. [Tel.] v. n. To roll over, to roll on the ground; to wallow. To be in excess, to over-flow. To continue, ప్రవర్తిల్లు.' యదూద్వహుండు పుష్పతల్పంబుపై జేరి పొరలుచుండు.' Pal. 233. 'పురహరుడు మున్ను, సాధింపవచ్చిన చందమున నేడు, పొరలినకోపమున పొంగుచున్నాడు.' To wish, long for, like, కోరు, ఇచ్ఛించు.' సుస్థిరభుజశక్తి నైదుపదిసేయరు దత్తినతక్క మట్టి కై, పొరలరధీ శుడీకమలబుద్ధి కళూరిక దక్క.' A. ii. 39. టీ మట్టికై, భూమికై, పొరలరు, అభిలషింపరు. To be crossed or covered, as a cow. ఆవుపొర్లినతర్వాత after the cow was crossed. మాటపొర్లవద్దు do not break your word. ఆ కల్లుకుండ పొర్లిపొర్లి ఉన్నది the toddy pot is overflowing. పొరలు, పొరలిక, పొర్లిక or పొరలాట n. Rolling over or over flowing. పొరలుదండము a bow or salutation made while rolling on the ground. పొరలుపెట్టు Same as పొరలు. పొర్లుకట్ట porlu-kaṭṭa. n. A bank or bund raised to prevent water from overflowing. పొరలించు, పొర్లించు, పొరలుచు or పొరల్చు poralinṭsu. v. a. To roll. To turn over. మాటపొర్లించినాడు he changed his statement or prevaricated.

(p. 834) prabalamu pra-balamu. [Skt.] adj. Mighty, powerful, strong. మిక్కిలిబలముగల. Important, predominant, prevailing. ప్రబలవిరోధి a mighty enemy. ప్రబలమైనగురుతులు evident signs. ప్రబలు, ప్రబలించు or ప్రబలమగు pra-balu. v. n. To grow, increase, swell. అతిశయిల్లు, వర్ధిల్లు, వృద్ధిపొందు. ప్రబలుడు pra-baluḍu. A mighty man, a celebrated man. ప్రసిద్ధుడు.

(p. 1031) mēlu mēlu. [Tel.] n. Good, kindness. ఉపకారము. Good fortune, prosperity, favour, happiness, క్షేమము, శుభము. Profit, advantage, లాభము. Righteousness, పుణ్యము, సుకృతము. Excellence, superiority, విశేషము. Love, మోహము. Pride, మదము. 'చదువుల మేలులేదొ.' P. iv. 119. అక్కడికి పోతే మేలు it would be better to go there. అదేమేలు so much the better. మేలెరుగు to be grateful, remember kindness. కీడుమేలు తెలిసినవాడు one who knows good and evil. 'మేలుకలిగేవాడు in time of prosperity. 'తత్సుతశతకంబుకంటె నొక సూనృత వాక్యము మేలుభూవరా.' Bhārat మేలు or మేలి adj. Upper, higher. ఉపరి, అధికము, పై. Good, better. Noble, fine, excellent, superior, శుభమైన, శ్రేష్ఠమైన. మేలుమిద్దె an upper storey. 'లోపలియంతస్తులోని మేల్మిద్దె.' Sārang. D. 113. మేలుగోడ the top wall, battlement, parapet or rail wall. మేలుముసుకు the outer cover. మేలుమాట or మేలువార్త happy news. adv. Up, above, over, మేలు or మేలుమేలు interj. Well done! excellent! better and better! జయ, జయ జయ. మేలుకట్టు mēli-kaṭṭu. n. An awning, a canopy. వితానము. 'మేలిమిమీరగా మేలుకట్టులుగట్టు, రమణీయ చీనాంబరములుగట్టి.' N. ix. 124. మేలుకమ్మిచీర mēlu-kammi-chīra. n. A cotton cloth woven with a coloured border three inches broad. మేలుచెయ్యి mēlu-cheyyi. n. Superiority. హెచ్చు, ఆధిక్యము. adj. Superior, హెచ్చైన. Victorious, గెలుపుగల. మేలుచెయ్యిగానుండు to prevail, to have the advantage. 'అట్లు తమవారు మేలుచెయ్యైన భంగివిని.' M. VI. ii. 2. మేలిమి mēlimi. n. Fineness, excellence. Pure gold. తప్త కాంచనము, అపరంజి. మేలిమి or మేలి adj. Fine, excellent. B. X. 207. మేలిల్లు mēl-illu. n. A upper storey, మేడ, సౌధము. మేలుకొను, మేల్కొను, మేలుకను, మేల్కను, మేలుకాంచు or మేల్కాంచు mēlu-konu. v. n. To awake, rise. To be aroused, stand on one's guard, be alert. నిద్రతెలియు, జాగ్రతపడు. మేలుకొలుపు mēlukolupu. v. a. To awaken. నిద్రలేపు. మేలుకొలుపులు mēlu-kolupulu. n. 'ఎవ్వనిచూచి మేలుపడితే యరవింద దళాక్షి.' Vijaya. iii. 37. మేలుబంతి mēlu-banti. n. The top line, the copy set to a schoolboy learning to write. A pattern, మాదిరి. One who is or sets an example; a paragon of excellence, an example, ఉదాహరణము. adj. Excellent, శ్రేష్ఠము, శ్రేష్ఠుడు, శ్రేష్ఠురాలు. 'మేదినీనాధులకునెల్ల మేలుబంతిగా బ్రవర్తింపకేల, దుష్కర్మివైతి.' Vish. ii. 116. 'నిజచరిత్రంబు భావిబూభుజులకెల్ల మేలుబంతిగవసుమతియేలుచుండె.' ib. vi. 63. మేలలుమచ్చు mēlu-maṭsṭsu. n. An upper storey, చంద్రశాల. మేలుమచ్చులు a kind of game played by boys. మేలురాసి mēlu rāṣi. n. The top part of a heap of winnowed grain. తూర్పెత్తిన ధాన్యపుసోగు. మేలువాడు mēlu-vāḍu. n. A lover, విటుడు, వలపుకాడు, మంచివాడు. 'అంతరాధకుమేలు వాడైమురారి.' A. v. 56.

(p. 1115) laukikamu laukikamu. [Skt. from లోకము.] (Vulgarly, లౌకికము.) n. Business, worldly affairs. ఉద్యోగము, లోకవ్యాపారము. అతనికి ఇప్పుడు లౌకికము లేదు he is now unemployed. adj. Secular, mundane, worldly, human, what prevails amongst men or is familiar to mankind. ప్రపంచసంబంధమైన. M. XIII. v. 192. లౌకికుడు laukikuḍu. (vulgarly, లౌకీకుడు) n. A layman, a secular Brahmin, a man of the world. ఉద్యోగస్థుడు. నేను విశేష లౌకీకుడనుగాను I am not a man of the world.

(p. 1235) vyāpiñcu vyāpinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To pervade, spread, or extend. అంతట ప్రసరించు. అతనిబుద్ధి తర్కములో వ్యాపింపలేదు his mind cannot comprehend logic. వ్యాపి vyāpi. n. One who pervades, వ్యాపించువాడు. వ్యావృతి Same as వ్యాపారము. (q. v.) వ్యాపకము vyāpakamu. adj. Spreading, extending, diffusive, comprehensive; influential. విస్తరించే, వ్యాపించే. రాజువద్ద అతనికి నిండా వ్యాపకముగానున్నది he has great influence with the king. వ్యాపకత, వ్యాపకత్వము or వ్యాపకము vyāpakata. n. Influence, sway, prevalence. ప్రభుత్వము, ప్రాబల్యము, విస్తారము. వ్యాపకుడు vyāpa-kuḍu. n. A man of influence. కార్యశీలుడు. వ్యాపనము vyāpanamu. n. Diffusion, pervading, spreading. వ్యాపించుట. వ్యాప్తము vyāplamu. adj. Pervading, encircled, surrounded, penetrated. అకీర్ణమైన, వ్యాపించిన, ప్రదేశించిన, పొందబడిన. వ్యాప్తి vyāpti. n. Pervading, diffusion, permeation, extension, spread. వ్యాపించడము, పొందుట. వ్యాప్తిమీదనున్నాను గనుక as I am engaged in this business. వ్యాప్యము vyāpyamu. adj. Fit to pervade, pervasive, వ్యాపింపదగిన.

(p. 1370) sphūrti sphūrti. [Skt.] n. Excitation, palpitation, vibration, tremulousness. Manifestation. Excess, fulness; expanding, prevalence. Gleaming, sparkling, shining, ప్రవృత్తి, కంపము, ప్రకాశము, ఉదయము, విజృంభణము, అతిశయము, పరిపూర్ణత. Thinking, తోచుట. 'పురితేరుల్ మహనీయ జంగమ నగస్ఫూర్తింగడున్ రాజిలున్.' P. i. 70. 'భూషామణిస్ఫూర్తి బ్రోదజేయ.' ib. iv. 368. 'కనకగిరిస్ఫూర్తి గరచె గౌతమిగ్రాచె.' A. i. 43. విగ్రహస్ఫూర్తి గానుండువాడు a stout man. సమయస్ఫూర్తిమాట a sudden thought, a repartee on the spur of the moment. అతనికి సమయస్ఫూర్తి కలదు he has a ready wit.
