(p. 416) cinnavāḍu chinna-nadu. n. Boyhood బాల్యకాలము, బాల్యము, చిన్నపుచ్చు chinna-puṭsṭsu. v. t. To disgrace, slight, contemn, treat lightly. చిన్నపోవు chinna-pōvu. v. n. To be disgraced, downcast, low-spirited. చిన్నవాడు chinna-vāḍu. n. A boy, a young man. పెద్ద చిన్నవాడు the eldest boy, నాకన్న చిన్నవాడు one younger than me నాచిన్నవాడు పెద్దవాడు అయ్యేదాక until my son grows up. చిన్నవాండ్లు children, offspring.

(p. 450) curuku or చురుక్కు ṭsuruku. [Tel.] n. Heat, a burning sensation. వేడిమి. Sharpness, fierceness. వాడిమి. Activity, agility, smartness, intelligence. Speed, impetuosity. వేగము. adj. Sharp, hot, fierce, violent. Rapid, impetuous, active, smart: brilliant (as rubies.) చురుకుగా or చురుక్కున ṭsuruku-gā. adv. Sharply, hotly, fiercely, actively. చురుక్కను to wince, be sharp, to be hot. చురుకరి ṭsuruk-ari. n. A man with much 'go in him, an energetic man చొరవగలవాడు. చురుపుచ్చు ṭsuru-puṭsṭsu. v. a. To burn. దగ్ధముచేయు. To be sharp, hot, eager. చుర్రు ṭsurru. adj. Hot. వేడి. చుర్రుమను ṭsurru-m-anu. v. n. To hiss or sputter, as the fire, or boiling water. To shudder, to tingle with horror. చుర్రు చుర్రుమనినది it was hot to taste: it made the tongue smart. చుర్రున ṭsurru-na. adv. Fiercely (burning).

(p. 544) tūlu tūlu. [Tel.] v. n. To shake. చలించు. To reel, to stagger. To faint, or become giddy. To be overcome with love, &c. To waver, hesitate. (p. 652) nidra nidra. [Skt.] n. Sleep. నిద్రపుచ్చు nidra-puṭsṭsu. v. t. To put to sleep, as an infant. జ్ఞాననిద్ర a mesmeric trance. నిద్రమబ్బు or నిద్రమత్తు nidra-mabbu. n. Drowsiness. నిద్రలేపు nidra-lēpu. v. a. To awake from sleep. నిద్రాణము nidrāṇamu. adj. Sleepy, drowsy. నిద్రాణుడు or నిద్రాళువు nidrāṇuḍu. n. (p. 739) pāpaṭa pāpaṭa. [Tel. from పాయు.] n. The parting of the hair on the forehead. కేశవీధి. A flowering forest tree, Ixora tomentosa. వృకధూమకము. Rox. i. 385. పాపటబొట్టు or పాపటచేరు pāpaṭa-boṭṭu. n. A kind of head ornament, a brooch or locket suspended on the forehead from the parting of the hair. చేరుచుక్క. పాపటగోరింక pāpaṭa-gōrinka. n. The Black-headed Myna, Temenuchus pagodarum, (F.B.I.) పాపటపోవు pāpaṭapōru. v. n. To get out of the way, దారివిడిచితొలగు. పాపటపుచ్చు pāpaṭapuṭsṭsu. v. a. To remove out of the way. దారివిడిచి తొలగించు.

(p. 746) pālu pālu. [Tel.] n. A share or portion. భాగము, వంతు. Possession, charge, వశము. infl. పాలి, or పాలిటి; local ablative పాల or పాలిటి. plu. పాళ్లు. నా వయసు నీపాలుచేసినాను I yielded up my youth to thee. అతని పాలికి వచ్చినది యిది this is what fell to his share. నీపాలిదైవము or నీపాలిటిదైవము your good angel, your tutelary God. వాడు నాపాలిటికి యముడు he has been a curse to me. వేములుపండి కాకులపాలైనవి a proverb regarding the wealth of a prodigal. పరులపాలైన given up to others or sacrificed. దొంగలపాలైన abandoned to thieves. రచ్చలపాలుకావడము to become a prey to ridicule, to become a laughing stock. అప్పుల పాలయినాడు he has fallen into debt. పాలబాన or పాలుబాన pāla-bāna. n. The ryot's share of the crop, ఉభయరాశి అంబారములో కాపునకు చేరే వర్తనధాన్యము. 'కష్టపడి పైరుచేసే సంసారి, ముద్రపిండి, వినాయకునిచాట, గుగ్గిళ్లగంప, పాలుబాన, రాశి అడుగు, ఇవి పుచ్చుకొని,' Miscell. iii. 430. పాలాడు pāl-āḍu. v. a. To divide into shares. To cut, to sever, to separate, ఖండించు. పాలారుచు or పాలార్చు pālā-ruṭsu. (పాలు+అరుచు.) v. a. To disregard, to neglect, ఉపేక్షించు. భాగ. iii. పాలుచేయు pālu-chēyu. v. a. To hand over, give over to, deliver, sacrifice. నన్ను అప్పులపాలుచేసినాడు he plunged me in debt. పాలుపడు or పాల్పడు pālupaḍu. v. n. To undertake, to enter upon, to share, to engage in. పూనుకొను, పైనవేసికొను. To be subject to, స్వాధీనమగు. 'వివిధచేష్టలకుంబాలుపడి.' B. X. §. 30. పాలుపుచ్చు or పాలుపెట్టు pālu-puṭsṭsu. v. a. To deduct or subtract: to divide or separate, విభాగించు. To decide or settle, నిర్ణయించు. వేదనపాలుకాలేను I cannot endure being a prey to grief. పాలుగలవాడు a co-heir, a cousin, దాయాదివాడు. 'పాలుగలవాడు మన కొకజాలియిడక, తానతారసానకు వచ్చెన్.' A. iii. 39. పాలుపోవు pālu-pōvu. v. n. To be divided or shared. విభక్తమగు. To be decided, నిర్ణీతమగు. ఒకరిని పాలుబోక ఆ పనిని అట్టె పడవేసిపెట్టినారు no one undertook the work, so it was left undone. అది యెటు వ్రాయడానకు పాలుపోక విడిచినాను unable to decide how to write the passage. I omitted it. పాలుభోగగ్రామము pālu-bhōga-grā-mamu. n. A village wherein each field is held as one man's separate property.

(p. 764) pu ccu puṭsṭsu. [Tel.] v. a. To take. తీయు. To send, to remove. పంపు, పోవజేయు v. n. To decay, mortify, rot. పుచ్చిపోవు puchchi-pōvu. v. n. To be rotten, decayed పుచ్చు puṭsṭsu. adj. Rotten, decayed. 'గురువునకు పుచ్చుకూరైన నియ్యరరయవేశ్యకిత్తురర్థమెల్ల.' Vēma 69. పుచ్చు puṭsṭsu. n. The Sediment of oil. ఆముదపుమడ్డి. Filth. 'పప్పులోనుప్పు మిక్కిలి పారజల్లి, నేతిలో నాముదపుపుచ్చు నిండనించి,' Jagannadha. i. 67. పుచ్చు is used idiomatically with some nouns to give them an active force. ఆ బిడ్డను నిద్రపుచ్చినది she put the child to sleep. నూరు రూపాయలతో ఆ యిల్లు కట్టడమును సరిపుచ్చినాడు he finished the building of the house with a hundred rupees. మోసపుచ్చు to deceive, cheat. చిన్నపుచ్చు to disgrace. ప్రొద్దుపుచ్చు to pass or kill time, కాలక్షేపము చేయు. ఇంతప్రొద్దు పుచ్చినందుకు యేతువేమి what is the reason of your making so much delay? 'చాకివాడుకోక చీకాకుపడజేసి, మయలబుచ్చి మంచిమడుపుచేయు, బుద్ధిచెప్పువాడు గుద్దిననేమయా.' Vēma. 230. 'పరులమోసపుచ్చి ధరరూకలార్జించి, కడుపునించుకొనుటకానిపద్దు.' Vēma. 258.

(p. 763) puccakāya puṭsṭsa-kāya. [Tel.] n. The wild bitter melon, called Bryonia callosa, or Cucumis trigonus. కళింగము, కర్కారుకము. వెర్రిపుచ్చ the Colocynth plant, Citrullus colocynthis, Cucumis colocynthis. Rox. iii. 719. ఏటిపుచ్చకాయ the water-melon, Citrullus vulgaṛis (Watts) 'ఒజ్జలపుచ్చకాయ వితమారా.' T. iv. 214. టీ పుచ్చకాయ తినరాదనిగురువు అందరికిన్ని చెప్పి తాను తిన్నరీతి యగును.

(p. 763) puccaṭika , పుచ్చడీక or పుచ్చడీకతనము puṭsṭsaṭika.[Tel.] n. Modesty, prudishness, shamefacedness, బిడియము, సిగ్గు. 'సీ పుచ్చడీకతనంబు పోబెట్టి గిరికన్యపతిగొల్వ నాయాసపడినచోటు.' Swa. ii. 8. పుచ్చడీక puṭsṭsaḍīka. n. A modest or shy person. సిగ్గరి.

(p. 764) puccukonu puṭsṭsu-konu. v. a. To take This verb like 'To take' in English is used in many senses, thus: To receive; to purchase. To eat, to drink to take medicine, poison, &c. To exact (service.) సెలవుపుచ్చుకొను to take leave or retire. సమ్మతిపుచ్చుకొను to take (one's) consent. అతడు వైష్ణము పుచ్చుకొన్నాడు he embraced the Vaishnava creed. పుచ్చుకోలు putsṭsu-kōlu. n. The act of taking, or receiving, పుచ్చుకొనుట.

(p. 774) pulumu or పులుముకొను pulumu. [Tel.] v. n. and a. To scour or rub, in washing or bathing. రుద్దు, నలుపు. To beat, కొట్టు. కండ్లుపులుముకొనుచు లేచినాడు he waked up rubbing his eyes. తలపులుముకొను to rub the head in bathing. గుడ్డలువులుముకొను to wash clothes. వాణ్ని బాగా పులిమినారు they thrashed him well. పులుముడు palumuḍu. n. (p. 812) pori pori. [Tel.] n. Same as పొలి. (q. v.) adj. Strong, great. అత్యంతము. adv. Exceedingly, very much. మిక్కిలి, అత్యంతము. Firmly, దృఢముగా. Duly, regularly, క్రమముగా. Often, మాటిమాటికి, తరుచుగా. Again, మళ్లీ. 'శ్రీనివాసమును క్షేత్రంబుగల పూర్ణమూర్తి బొరి పూజింతును.' H. iv. 297. పొరిగొను pori-gonu. v. a. To kill, slay, చంపు. To ruin, destroy, నాశముచేయు. The son of the sun; an epithet applied to Yama, Sani, karṇa or Sugriva, యముడు, శని, కర్ణుడు, సుగ్రీవుడు. ప్రొద్దుతిరుగుడు proddu-tiruguḍu. n. The sun-flower, సూర్యమవర్తిని. ప్రొద్దుపుచ్చు proddu-puṭsṭsu. v. a. To pass the time, కాలక్షేపముచేయు. ప్రొద్దురిక్క proddu-rikka. n. A constellation called ఉత్తరఫల్లునీనక్షత్రము. ప్రొద్దురిక్క నెల proddu-rikka-nela. n. A name of the Telugu month called ఫాల్గుణమాసము.
