The ceremony (like christening) by which a child is introduced into his caste. పుట్టినప్పుడు చేయుక్రియ. జాతవేదుడు jāta-vēdu&&dtod;u. n. An epithet of Fire, as being the 'source of the Veda.' అగ్ని.

Height, length, stature, ఎత్తు. వెలపొడుగుచీర an expensive or high priced cloth, ఖరీదుగల లేక కిమ్మత్తయిన చీర. సంవత్సరము పొడుగున throughout the year. adj. High, tall, long, lofty. High, as price. v. n. To grow tall, increase, extend, ఉన్నతమగు, వర్ధిల్లు. బియ్యము వెల పొడిగినది the price of rice has risen. పొడుగాటి or పొడుగుపాటి poḍugāṭi. adj. Long, tall. పొడవడగు poḍav-aḍagu. (పొడవు+అడగు.) v. n. To be spoilt, చెడు. To die, చచ్చు. పొడవడచు poḍav-aḍaṭsu. To spoil, చెరుచు. To kill, చంపు. పొడవు poḍuvu. n. Shape, form రూపు. పొడగించు poḍiginṭsu. To lengthen, heighten, raise, increase, exalt. To aggravate. swell. To promote in rank. పొడుగుచేయు. ఎక్కువచేయు. పొడుగుమడుగు poḍugu-maḍugu. n. The heavenly Ganges, ఆకాశగంగ.

(p. 819) pōtu pōtu. [Tel.] n. The male of certain birds, animals and plants, పశు పక్షులలోమగది. ఆబోతు an ox, వృషభము. ఎనుబోతు a male buffalo. మేకపోతు a he-goat, a ram. నక్కపోతు a male fox. గొడ్డుపోతు a barren woman. పోతుటీగ a male fly. పోతుటేనుగు a male elephant. పోతుకరుడు the bigger surf, పెద్దఅల. పోతుతాడు the male palm tree. పోతురౌతు, an epithet of Yama, the god of Death, యముడు. పోతుపిల్ల, a male young one. పశుజాతిలో మగపిల్ల. పోతుపిల్లి a tom cat. పోతు sometimes means one who is addicted to, as తాగుబోతు a drunkard. తిండిబోతు a glutton. తూగుపోతు a sluggard వదురుబోతు a chatter box. పోతుపిచ్చిక or పెద్దపిచ్చిక pōtu-pichchika. n. The Ashy-crowned Finch Lark. Pyrrhulauda grisca. (F.B.I.) పోతురాజు or పోతరాజు pōtu-rāḍsu. n. The name of a rustic god, like Pan, worshipped throughout the Telugu, Canarese and Mahratta countries. He represents the male principle associated with the village goddesses Gangamma, Peddamma, &c. A proverb says పాడుఊరికి మంచపుకోడుపోతురాజు in a ruined village the leg of a cot is a god. cf., 'a Triton of the minnows' (Shakespeare.) బమ్మెరపోతరాజు the name of a certain poet. పోతులరాజు pōtula-rāḍzu. n. A name given to a large hound.

(p. 1359) sōḍu sōḍu. [Tel.] n. The crown of the head. మాడపట్టు, బ్రహ్మరంధ్రము. సోడుముట్టు sōḍu-muṭṭu. v. n. To spread, pervade, be diffused throughout. అంతటవ్యాపించు. తలకెక్కు, మిన్నుముట్టు. 'పుష్పసురభిౚంధంబులు సోడుముట్ట.' Parij. v. 53. 'క నీదగుతనువునదివ్యా, మోదముసాంద్రమయి సోడుముట్టెడునత్యా, హ్లాదమహాశ్చర్యసముత్పాదియగుచు.' M. XIII. ii. 458.
