(p. 818) pōḍu pōḍu. [Tel.] n. A down, a piece of scrub, jungle covered with bushes, land cleared from jungle for the purpose of cultivation, as కొండపోళ్లు. పోడుకొట్టు to clear away brushwood, to remove underwood, చేసికొరకు చెట్లునరికివేయు. చిరివేరుపోళ్లు Chayroot grounds, చాయవేళ్లు పైరగుభూమి.

(p. 779) pūta pūta. (from Tel. పూయు or పూచు.) n. Rubbing, besmearing. పూయుట, చర్చ. Sandal which is smeared over the body, చందనము. Mortar. సున్నపుగచ్చు. Blooming, budding, పూచుట, వికసము. నోటిపూత Aphthae, a disease of the mouth, thrush. Fragrant paste applied to the skin. చందనము. నాలుగు బంగారుపూతలు అయినవి four coats of gilding are applied. ఆ చెట్టు పూతపట్టలేదు that tree has not commenced to flower.

(p. 802) pokāru or పోకారు pokāru. [Tel.] v. n. To be ruined, నాశమగు. పొకార్చు, పొకారుచు, పోకారుచు or పోకార్చు pokārṭsu. To kill or ruin, to render powerless, to strike with stupor, 'ఉ కానకకన్నమాసుతుబొకారిచి యిన్నియుమిధ్యచేసితే.' R. ii. 50.

(p. 810) ponnagaṇṭikūra ponna-ganṭikūra. [Tel.] n. A certain pot-herb called Achyranthes triandra. Rox. i. 677. A medicinal plant called Illecebrum sessile, Rox. ముత్స్యాక్షి.

(p. 813) polamāru or పొరపారు polam-āru. [Tel.] v. n. To make a mistake, ప్రమాదపడు. To go the wrong way (in swallowing). వానికి పొలమారినది the food got into his windpipe. పొలమార్చు (causal of పొలమారు) to cause to be deceived, to cause to blunder, ప్రమాదపడునట్లుచేయు.

(p. 808) podaveṭṭu poda-veṭṭu. [Tel.] v. a. To hint, సూచించు. To impute, attribute, ఆరోపించు.

(p. 767) puṇyamu puṇyamu. [Skt.] n. Virtue, holiness, merit, excellence, purity. ధర్మము. A good deed, a good or meritorious work or action, a work of supererogation, that which is more than required as a matter of duty. సుకృతము. adj. Virtuous, sacred, holy, pure, righteous. పవిత్రము. Good, excellent, మనోజ్ఞము. Charitable, generous. పుణ్యశ్లోకుడు a celebrated man. పుణ్యకథలు godly legends. పుణ్యకాలము an auspicious time. పుణ్యస్త్రీ (corrupted into పునిస్త్రీ) a happy woman, one whose husband is living. నన్ను ఉత్త పుణ్యానికి కొట్టినాడు he beat me without cause, meaning the same as నిష్కారణముగా. నీపుణ్యముచేత తొందరవచ్చినది (ironical) for this trouble we may thank you. ఇది అంతా మీ పుణ్యము this is all due to you goodness. నీపుణ్యముండును వాని జోలికిమాత్రము పోకు for goodness' sake do not meddle with him. పుణ్యానికి ఇచ్చినపొలము a field granted in free gift. A well known verse says. శ్లోకార్ధేన ప్రవక్ష్యామి యుదక్తం గ్రంథకోటిభిః, పరోపకారః పుణ్యాయపాపాయ పరపీడనం. పుణ్యజనుడు puṇya-januḍu. n. A man of excellence, a holy man, సుజనుడు. A Rākshasa, an evil spirit, రాక్షసుడు. పుణ్యజనేశ్వరుడు puṇya-janēṣvaruḍu. n. Kubēra. పుణ్యబూమి puṇya-bhūmi. n. The Holy land (of the Hindus), i.e., Hindustan, the land between the Himalayas and the Vindhyas. పుణ్యలోకము puṇya-lōkamu. n. Heaven. పుణ్యవంతుడు puṇya-vantuḍu. n. One who is holy or virtuous. ధార్మికుడు, అదృష్టవంతుడు. ఈ విషయములో అతడు చాలా పుణ్యవంతుడు. in this respect he is very lucky. పుణ్యస్త్రీ or పుణ్యాంగన puṇya-strī. n. A good housewife, good woman, lady. పుణ్యాత్ముడు puny-ātmuḍu. n. A holy, pious or charitable person, పుణ్యస్వరూపుడు. పుణ్యాహము puṇy-āhamu. n. A holy or sacred day, పుణ్యదినము. పుణ్యాహవాచనము puṇy-āha-vāchanamu. n. The consecration or hallowing of a ceremony. A ceremonial purification. పుణ్యుడు puṇyudu. n. A holy or virtuous man. పుణ్యులారా O holy men!
