(p. 742) pārijātamu pāri-jātamu. [Skt.] n. Amaranth. The Coral tree, Erythrina fulgens. పగడమల్లి. Also, the Mimusops elengi. One of the trees in Paradise. కల్పవృక్షము పారిజాతాపహరణము pārijāt-āpaharaṇamu. n. The 'Rape of the Amaranth.' This is the title of a popular poem.

(p. 737) pātāḷamu pātāḷamu. [Skt.] n. The nether world, Hades, క్రింది లోకము. ఆ గుంట పాతాళము వలెనున్నది that pond is as deep as Hades. ఈ బావిలో నీళ్లు పాతాళములో నున్నవి the water is very low down in this well. 'పాతాళప్రశ్నలుమాని మేల్కొనుము.' A. vi. 77. టీ పాతాళప్రశ్నలుమాని అధోగతి ప్రశ్నలు విడిచిపెట్టి, దూరప్రశ్నలుమాని, నిండా గూఢముగా నుండేదానిని అడగడమును చాలించుకొని పాతాళగంగ. పాతాళగంగ pātāḷa-ganga. n. The name of the river that flows through the Hindu Hades. Also, the name of that branch of the Krishna which flows past Sri Sailum. పాతాళభది pātāḷa-bhēdi. n. A grappling hook or drag to recover things sunk in a river.

(p. 745) pāla pāla. [Tel. from పాలు milk.] n. The bird called the Indian Roller, boracias indica (F.B.I.) the flight of which is consulted as an omen. It is erroneously called a blue jay. Various varieties are called గొర్రెపాలపిట్ట and మేకపాలపిట్ట. See Jerdon No. 243. A treatise on Omens says. 'పాలగరుడతప్ప పక్షిజాతులకెల్ల నెడమమండికుడికి నెగయవలయు.' పాల or పాలతీగ n. A certain tree, ఇక్షుగంధ, క్షీరికావృక్షము; of which there are various species as, అడవిపాలతీగ Nerium reticulatum, కాకిపాలతీగ Asclepias asthmatica, దూదిపాలతీగ Asclepias volubilis, మట్టపాలతీగ Convolvulus paniculatus; చిరుపాల, అనగా ఉటని. Q. మన్నుపాల, అనగా ఉత్పల కృష్ణ. Q. పాలపండు, అనగా కనిష్ట. Q. Various species of the 'milk plant' are called మేకపాలతీగ, కుక్కపాలతీగ, &c. పాల adj. White. పాలవెండి pure silver. పాలకన్ను pāla-kannu. n. A sort of earth, a whitish marl. పైని యిసుకగల రేగడనేల. పాలగుమ్మ Same as పాలపిట్ట. పాలగొర్రు pāla-gorru. n. A rake used in husbandry. పాలగోకుడు pāla-gokuḍu. n. The butter that sticks to the bottom of a milk pot. పాలచెట్టు pāla-cheṭṭu. n. A species of the Mimusops tree. పాలచేప pāla-chēpa. n. A sort of Salmon. పాలచేరులు or పాలచేర్లు pāla-chērulu. n. The nerves. బీజములకు పైననుండునరాలు, గ౛్జనరాలు. 'సీ పాలచేరులపట్టి తూలింప బలిమి నీడ్చుకొని డొంకలదూరి చుట్టబెట్టు.' Swa. iv. 68. 'సీ కటికినెత్తురులతో గండలుర్లిపడంగ, జేరి పందులపాల చేర్లుకరచు.' S. i. 202. పాలటేకు or పాలతేకు pāla-ṭēku. n. The white wooded teak tree. పాలడ pālaḍa. (పాలు+అడుగు.) n. A shell used as a spoon or ladle in giving milk to a child. పాలతుత్తము or పాలతుత్తరము pāta-tuttamu. n. White vitriol. పాలపండ్లు pāla-panḍlu. n. Milk teeth. (p. 735) pāḍu pāḍu. [Tel.] adj. Waste, desolate, dismal, dreary, neglected, ruined, dilapidated. శూన్యము. Cursed, blasted. Horrid, vile, sad. ఇల్లు పాడువేసిరి they left the house empty. పాడుమాట sad news, a horrid story. పాడుచలి horridly cold. పాడుతోట a neglected garden. పాడుతాగుబోతు an abandoned drunkard. పాడునేల waste ground. పాటిమన్ను or పాటినేల rich soil. పాడునొసలు a blank forehead, i.e., one unadorned with the tilacam. పాడుజ్వరము a wasting fever. పాడువాన cursed rain. n. A wreck, waste, ruin, desolation. శూన్యము. A village. పల్లె. పాడుచేయు pāḍu-chēyu. v. a. To spoil. To waste, ruin, throw away. పాడుపడు, పాడరు or పాడు పారు pāḍu-paḍu. v. n. To become waste or desolate. పాడునుయ్యి pāḍu-nuyyi. n. A disused well.

(p. 733) pāgā or పాగ pāgā. [Tel.] n. A turban. పాగాచుట్టు to tie on or form a turban. Also, a stable. అశ్వశాల. A troop of horses, అశ్వసమూహము. పాగాలు Same as పావకోళ్లు (q. v.) పాగాగుర్రము pāgā-gurramu. n. A livery horse, stalled horse.

Rot, foulness, squalor, staleness, nastiness, scurf, (as of the teeth,) పండ్లమురికి Green slime produced in stagnant water, moss, water weeds, శైవాలము, నీళ్లలోని పచ్చని మురికి. Also, a baby word for the nipple, breast, or milk. adj. Old, పాతయైన. Dirty, unclean, not fresh. ఇంటిపాచిపని కాలేదు the cleaning of the house is not done. పాచిచేయు or పాచితీయు to sweep and wash a house, to clean a house. పాచితీగె pāchi-tīge. n.
