(p. 748) pāḷamu pāḷamu. [Tel.] n. A manner of method. విధము. Season, time. సమయము, A lump, ingot, or mass of metal. కడ్డి. Extent, కొలది. బిడ్డ ఆకలిపాళమెరిగి guessing when the child would be hungry. ఆ పాళవువారు men of that class. గరిటెపాళముగా as much as a spoonful. ఒల పాళముగా నుండే యిల్లు a moderate sized house. అతడు వచ్చే పాళముగానున్నది it looks as if he will come. పాళా pāḷā. n. An ingot or bar of metal. కడ్డీ. పాళాపు౛ొన్న pālāpu-ḍzonna. n. A species of millet (౛ొన్న,) which is of slow growth and has a large head.

(p. 731) pāñcālamu pānchālamu. [Skt.] n. The Punjab. The country north of Delhi, between the foot of the Himalayas and the Chambal. పంజాబుదేశము. పాంచాలి pānchāli. n. The daughter of the king of Pānchāla; a title of Draupadi, the wife of the five Pāndu princes. ద్రౌపది. పాంచాలిక pānchālika. n. A doll or puppet, an image carved on pillars, &c. బొమ్మ, నరమృగాదిరూపము. పాంచాలుడు pānchāluḍu. n. A member of any one of the five castes of artificers, viz., the carpenters, weavers, barbers, washermen, painters. వడ్లవాడు, సాలెవాడు, మంగలవాడు, చాకలవాడు, ముచ్చివాడు, ఈ అయిదు జాతులందు దేనిలోనైనను చేరినవాడు.

(p. 739) pāpa pāpa. [Tel. from పాము.] adj. Of the serpent, serpentine. పాపరేడు the king of serpents, నాగరాజు. పాపపాన్పు a serpent bed, i.e., the great serpent on which Vishṇu reclines. R. i. 46. పాపజగము the serpent world, నాగలోకము. పాప౛న్నిగట్టు or పాప౛ందెమువేల్పు pāpa-ḍzannigaṭṭu. n. One who wears a serpent as his sacred thread, an epithet of Gaṇēsa, వినాయకుడు. పాపతూపు or పాపరమ్ము pāpa-tūpu. n. A serpent arrow, నాగాస్త్రము. పాపమీను pāpa-nānu. n. (p. 738) pādalēpanamu pāda-lēpanamu. n. A salve or unguent for the feet. పాదామగడము pād-āngadamu. n. An ornament for the feet or toes. పాదపట్టము or పాయపట్టము pāda-paṭṭamu. n. An anklet. అందె, కాలి అందె, బిరుదు పెండేరము, పాగడము.

Listlessness, putting off the evil day, imbecility, want of energy, ill-health. బద్దకము, కక్కూర్తి. నాకు దేహము చాలా పాలుమాలికగా నున్నది నేను దేహము చాలా పాలుమాలికగా నున్నది నేను ఎట్లు వత్తును? I am so heavy or indisposed that I cannot come.

(p. 747) pālu pālu. [Tel.] n. Milk. Milky juice or sap. చనుబాలు or చన్నుపాలు woman's milk, human milk. చెరుకుపాలు the juice of the sugar cane. టెంకాయపాలు the white juice expressed from the cocoanut kernel by pounding. (టెంకాయనీళ్లు is the water in the cocoanut.) మర్రిపాలు the milky juice of the banyan tree. పాలవంటివారు, పాల వంటి కులము men (or a tribe) like milk, i.e., candid, simple, pure, unspotted, blameless, honourable. పాలవంటి మనసు a pure mind, a simple heart. పాలుకారేముఖము a milk-distilling face, i.e., a face radiant with loveliness. పాల్గారుచెక్కుటద్దములు radiantly polished cheeks, beaming with beauty. పాలకడలి, పాల్కడలి, పాలకుప్ప, పాలమున్నీరు, పాలవాగు or పాలవెల్లి pāla-kaḍali n. [from పాలు milk and ఇల్లు a home.] n. A woman's breasts. పాలేరు pāl-ēru. (పాలు+ఏరు.) n. The river or sea of milk. పాల కడలి. A river in South India, the Palar.

(p. 745) pāla pāla. [Tel. from పాలు milk.] n. The bird called the Indian Roller, boracias indica (F.B.I.) the flight of which is consulted as an omen. It is erroneously called a blue jay. Various varieties are called గొర్రెపాలపిట్ట and మేకపాలపిట్ట. See Jerdon No. 243. A treatise on Omens says. 'పాలగరుడతప్ప పక్షిజాతులకెల్ల నెడమమండికుడికి నెగయవలయు.' పాల or పాలతీగ n. A certain tree, ఇక్షుగంధ, క్షీరికావృక్షము; of which there are various species as, అడవిపాలతీగ Nerium reticulatum, కాకిపాలతీగ Asclepias asthmatica, దూదిపాలతీగ Asclepias volubilis, మట్టపాలతీగ Convolvulus paniculatus; చిరుపాల, అనగా ఉటని.
