(p. 773) puli puli. [Tel.] n. A tiger. Felis tigris. (F.B.I.) పెద్దపులి. చిరుతపులి a cheetah, leopard or panther, Felis pardus. (F.B.I.) ఈగపులి the fly tiger, i.e., a spider. పులి౛ున్ను cheese of 'tiger's milk' equivalent to 'pigeon's milk' వాడు పెద్దపులి నలెమండిసాడు he was fierce, or, he acted in a many manner. పులిని చూచి నక్క వాత పెట్టుకొనినట్లు as a jackal brands itself to look like a tiger: a proverb meaning 'to ape another person.' పులికోచ puli-kōṭsa. n. The tarantula, a large venomous spider. పులిగోరు puli-gōru. A tiger's claw, used as the central ornament of a necklace. పులిచెవులాకు puli-chevul-āku. n. Tiger's ears; a certain medicinal plant. పులి౛ూదము puli-ḍzūdamu. A game like drafts. One sort is called గుమ్మడికాయపులి౛ూదము, because played with gourd seeds H. iv. 148. పులిటెంకి puli-ṭenki. n. A kind of fish. పులిపెంజెర puli-penjera. n. The snake called కాటుకరేకుపాము. పులిమెకము puli-mekamu. n. A certain fish, a species of Squalus or Tigrinus. Russell, plate. XVII. పులియడు puliyaḍu. n. Excellent, శ్రేష్ఠమైన. ప్రాయిల్లు an old house. ప్రాయేరు the ancient stream, i.e., the sea, సముద్రము. ప్రాగబ్బము prā-gabbamu. (ప్రాత+కబ్బము) n. The Veda. ప్రాగెంపు an excellent ruby, మంచికెంపు. ప్రాబచ్చ an excellent emerald, శ్రేష్ఠమైనపచ్చ. ప్రాబడు (ప్రాత+పడు) Same as ప్రాతపడు (q. v.) ప్రాబసిడి excellent gold. ప్రామర్రి an old banyan tree. ప్రావేలుపు or ప్రావేల్పు an ancient god, i.e., an Asura, అసురుడు, పూర్వదేవుడు. ప్రా౛దువులు, ప్రాబలుకులు or ప్రాబల్కులు prā-ḍzaduvulu. n. (p. 845) prāṇamu prāṇamu. [Skt.] n. Air, wind, breath, life, vitality, the living soul. గాలి, హృదయమందలి గాలి, హృదయమందలిగాలి, ఉసురు. In Grammar, a vowel. ప్రాణముతోనున్నవాడు one who is yet living. కొనప్రాణముతోనున్నాడు he is nearly dead. ప్రాణమువిడిచెను he breathed his last, gave up the ghost. పంచప్రాణములు pancha-prāṇamulu. n. The five vital airs, called ప్రాణము, అపానము, సమాణము, ఉదానము, వ్యాసము. అతడు దానిమీద ప్రాణములు విడుస్తున్నాడు or వానికి దానిమీద పంచప్రాణములు he loves her very dearly. ప్రాణముమీదకువచ్చేపని a most perilous affair. వానిప్రాణము మీదికి వచ్చినది he is in danger of his life. ప్రాణముతో పట్టుకొనిరి they caught him alive. నా ప్రాణముపోయినా ఇట్లు చెప్పుదునా I will not say so even if it should cost me my life. వాడు పిడికిట ప్రాణములు పట్టుకొని వచ్చినాడు he arrived half dead. వానికి నేర్పుట ప్రాణసంకటమవును it would cost immense labour to teach him. ఆ విగ్రహమునకు ప్రాణప్రతిష్ఠచేసినారు literally, they gave life to the image, i.e., they performed the ceremony by which the god is supposed to be lodged in the image. ప్రాణత్యాగము suicide, ఆత్మహత్య. ప్రాణాతురము or ప్రాణసంకటము deadly peril. 'ప్రాణాతురమైనచో పరిణయంబులయందును బల్కుబొంకు సత్యాతిశయంబు.' M. (p. 764) puṭamu puṭamu. [Skt.] n. A fold, a doubling. The cup or hollow formed by a fold, as in a flower or leaf or in any roll or in the joined hands, దొప్ప. A flower basket, పూలబుట్ట. A horse's hoof, గుర్రపు కాలిగొర౛. Burning or refining a metal, calcining a medicinal drug. A kind of horse's pace, అశ్వగతిభేదము. నాసికాపుటము the calix of the nose, i.e., the nose. పుటముపెట్టు or పుటమువేయు to heat metal in the fire, to calcine a drug. 'పనివిని తీవెగుంపనక, పాండురసైకత నిర్ఘరీతటం బనక, దరీపుటం బనక, నన్నియు నారసి.' Vasu. ii. 46. పుటముబ్బ puṭam-ubbu. (పుటము+ఉబ్బు.) v. n. To swell upwards, మీదికుబ్బు. పుటమొగయు puṭam-cgayu. v. n.
