(p. 1228) vaidikamu vaidikamu. [Skt. from వేద.] adj. Pertaining to the Vedas; conformable to the Vedas. Canonical, clerical, sacred. వేదమందు చెప్పబడిన, లౌకికము కాని. n. Conformity to the Vedas; any sacred pursuit. ఇవేళ మాయింట్లో కొంచెము వైదికము a certain religious rite is to be celebrated in my house to-day. వాడు లౌకికవైదికములందు నిండా సమర్థుడు he is equally skilled in sacred and secular pursuits. వైదికవిద్యలు the sacred and secular pursuits. వైదికవిద్యలు the sacred studies. వైదికాగ్ని the sacred fire, i.e., fire on an altar, sacrificial fire as distinguished from లౌకికాగ్ని common fire. 'వినుమింతి వైదికంబును లౌకికంబును రెండు విధములు యజ్ఞ విధులు.' M. XIII. v. 192. వైదికలిపి or వైదికాక్షరము the clerkly hand, a round antique mode of writing like law-text. వైదికబ్రాహ్మణుడు a Vaidika Brahmin, i.e., one who is set apart for religious duties or studies; వైదికుడు vaidikuḍu. n. A Brahmin who knows the Vedas, వేదము తెలిసిన బ్రాహ్మణుడు. One who is engaged in sacred pursuits or studies. లౌకికుడుకానివాడు. One who does not know the world, లౌకికము తెలియనివాడు. ఇతడు శుద్ధవైదికుడు he is a very simple man.

(p. 1225) vēlupu or వేల్పు vēlupu. [Tel.] n. A god or goddess, దేవుడు, దేవత. ఇలోల్పు a god of this world, i.e., a Brahmin. ఇలువేల్పు a patron saint, a genius or household god. వేలుపుటన్ను a goddess. దేవతాస్త్రీ. T. ii. 106. వేలుపుకొలను or వేలుపుటేరు the heavenly stream, the celestial Ganges, ఆకాశగంగ; the river Ganges, గంగ. వేలుపుగాణ a mythological being, a Gandharva, గంధర్వుడు. వేలుపుగిడ్డి or వేల్పుటావు the mythological cow that grants all wishes, కామధేనువు. వేలుపుచెట్టు the divine tree that grants all wishes, కల్పవృక్షము, వేలుపు ౛డదారి the divine ascetic or monk. i.e., Narada, నారదుడు. వేలుపుటొ౛్జ the divine preceptor of Guru, i.e., Brihaspati, నురాచార్యుడు, బృహస్పతి. వేలుపుదాయ an enemy of the gods, i.e., an Asura. వేలుపుబాస the language of the gods, i.e., Sanskrit. వేలలుపుబోనము the food of the gods, i.e., Ambrosia, అమృతము. వేలుపుమల or వేల్పుకొండ the hill of the gods, i.e., Mount Meru. వేలుపుమానికము the diamond of the gods, i.e., the philosopher's stone, a jewel that grants all that may be desired, చింతామణి. వేలుపురేడు or వేల్పుదొర the lord of the gods, i.e., Indra. వేలుపుసాని a fortune teller, సోదెచెప్పునది, దైవజ్ఞ. వేలుపుగౌరు the white elephant of the gods, ఐరావతము. వేలుపులత్రోవ the sky, ఆకాశము. వేలుపుటిక్క heaven, స్వర్గము. వేల్పుదళవాయి the general of the gods, i.e., Kumāraswāmi, కుమారస్వామి. వేల్పుపెద్ద Brahma, బ్రహ్మదేవుడు, సురజ్యేష్ఠుడు. వేల్పువె౛్జు the physician of the gods, i.e., Dhanvantari, ధన్వంతరి. వేల్పుడు vēlpuḍu. n. Worship, పూజ.

(p. 1228) vaidyamu vaidyamu. [Skt. from విద్ to know.] n. The art of medicine, surgery. రోగచికిత్సాశాస్త్రము. వైద్యుడు vaidyuḍu. n. A physician or surgeon, a doctor చికిత్సకుడు, వె౛్జు.

(p. 1207) veṭṭa veṭṭa. [Tel. from వేడి.] n. Warmth, heat, sunshine, heat of the body. వేడిమి, ఎండ. The hot season, ఎండకాలము. Enmity. విరోధము, పగ. 'సరియగు నిట్టివెట్టటనివి సర్వమటంచటు మీదసృష్టికిన్.' A. ii. 56. 'అట్టివేసవి బెడిదంపు వెట్టకతన.' ib. ii. 77. 'అనుగుజుట్టములపట్టున వెట్టగాకమ్మ వరువుళ్లపైభక్తి వదలకమ్మ.' P. iv. 408. Also, heat due to inflammation. adj. Hot. నిండాకాకగానుండే, వేడియైన. (p. 1216) velupu Same as వెడలుపు (q. v.) వెలుపించు or వెలుపుచేయు velup-inṭsu. v. a. To widen, వెడలుపుచేయు. వెలుపు velupu. (from వెలుచు.) v. n. To issue, as a stream. నీరుబయలుదేరు. వేసవిదినములయందు కొద్దినీరు వెలుపును a little water flows from it in summer.

(p. 1217) velluva velluva. n. A flood, a stream, an inundation. ప్రవాహము. A number of men, a troop, సేన. 'డెబ్బదిరెండువెల్లువలైన నవచరపతుల భూవరులజయించి.' DRY. 1494. 'శీతకాలమున హెచ్చినమంచువెల్లువల్.'
