(p. 1228) vaitaraṇi vaitaraṇi. [Skt. from వితరణి.] n. The river of fire that is said to exist in hell. The Hindu Styx. నరకమందలి నిప్పులనది. The name of the mother of the Rākṣhasas or giants. రాక్షసులతల్లి.

(p. 1212) verri verri. [Tel.] n. Madness, insanity, పిచ్చి. Folly, frenzy, అవివేకము. A mad man, a fool. పిచ్చివాడు, పిచ్చిది, ఉన్మత్తుడు, అవివేకి, తెలివిలేనివాడు. 'అసదృశలీలబొల్చురథికావలిమీద జనంగ వెర్రినై.' M. IV. iv. 55. plu. వెర్రులు. adj. Mad, insane, foolish, nonsensical, bad, useless, పిచ్చి, పనికిమాలిన, తెలివిమాలిన. వెర్రితలనొప్పి a distracting headache, a maddening headache. వెర్రిపడుచు a silly girl. Wild, uncultivated. వెర్రిచెరుకు the wild sugarcane, Saccharum arundinaceum. వెర్రితుమ్మ Phlomis zeyleynica. వెర్రినిమ్మ the wild lime. వెర్రిపుచ్చ the bitter wild melon. వెర్రిబచ్చలి a wild kind of Portulac. Similarly, వెర్రిజిల్లేడు, వెర్రిబీర, వెర్రిమేడి, వెర్రియావ, &c. Also used, like the word 'silly, in old English, to mean innocent. వాడు వట్టి వెర్రివాడు he is a very innocent person. వెర్రితనము verri-tanamu. n. Madness. ఉన్మత్తత. వెర్రిది verr-idi. n. A foolish, silly or mad woman. ఉన్మత్తురాలు, తెలివిలేనిది. వెర్రినీళ్లు verri-nīḷḷu. n. Lit. the water that makes one silly, or mad, i.e., any spirituous liquor. మద్యము. వెర్రిబాగులు verri-bāgulu. n. A foolish man or woman, తెలివిమాలినవాడు, తెలివిమాలినది. వెర్రివాడు verri-vāḍu. n. A mad man, a fool. ఉన్మత్తుడు, తెలివిలేనివాడు. వెర్రివానిచేతిరాయి lit: a stone in the hand of a mad man, i.e., a dangerous experiment.

(p. 1200) vīteñcu vī-tenṭsu. [Tel. వీచు+తెంచు.] v. n. To come, or blow, as the wind. గాలి మొదలైనవివచ్చు, విసరు. వీచు. 'అద్దిక్కున నొక్క యపూర్వదుర్వార ఘోషంబు వీతేరవాకర్ణించి.' P. i. 185.

(p. 1213) velaru velaru. [Tel.] n. Whiteness, తెల్నన. వెలరారు or వెలరుపారు velar-āru. v. n. To become white, తెల్లనగు. To shine, ప్రకాశించు. 'జలధరప్రకరంబు వెలవెలనైతోచె వెలరారిదిక్కులువిశదమయ్యె.' Padma. ix. 224. To turn pale, వెలవెలపోవు.

(p. 1237) vrajanamu vrajanamu. [Skt.] n. Going, travelling, travel. గమనము, పర్యటనము. గయావ్రజనము a piligrimage to Gaya, వ్రజము vrajamu. n. A multitude, flock, herd. సమూహము, పసులమంద. A cowpen, పశువుల దొడ్డి, పనులకొట్టము, పశువుల మందపట్టు. గోకులము. వ్రజ్య vrajya. n. Wandering, roaming. కార్యార్థము తిరుగుట, ప్రయాణము. A multitude, సమూహము.

(p. 1204) vempali vempali. [Tel.] n. The purple Galega, Tephrosia purpurea. A small wild shrub with a pink flower and a leaf resembling that of the Indigo plant. బాణపుంఖి, మణికాచము. It has several species called ములువెంపలి the thorny sort, జిడ్డువెంపలి the gummy kind, వెలివెంపలి the whitish and పెద్దవెంపలి the giant species.

(p. 1238) vrātyuḍu vrātyuḍu. [Skt.] n. A man of the twice-born who is not invested with the sacred thread. ఉపనయనాది సంస్కారహీన బ్రాహ్మణుడులోనగువాడు. (Commonly,) a blockhead. శుంఠుడు, భ్రష్టుడు. వ్రాత్యవైశ్యుడు a Vaisya who has lost caste.

(p. 1230) vaiśākhamu vaiṣākhamu. [Skt. from విశాఖ.] n. The name of the second lunar month, ఒకనెలపేరు. A churning staff. కవ్వము.

(p. 1213) velaga velaga. [Tel.] n. The Wood apple or Elephant apple. Feronia elephantum. కపిత్థము. The thorny species is called చికివెలగ. నేలవెలగ is another species. పుల్లవెలగ is the sour species. వెలగకాయ or వెలక్కాయ velaga-kāya. n. The fruit called the wood-apple. కపిత్థఫలము, వెలగపండు.
