(p. 28) accāḷi or అచ్చాళు aṭṭsāḷi. (K) One who lives a single life, an unmarried person. ఒంటిమనిషి, ఏకాంగిగా మండేవాడు, సంసారపు పీకులాటలేనివాడు అచ్చాళుగానుండు or అచ్చాళిగానుండు to be alone, to be quiet, free from perturbation. 'చారుశిలాముఖ్యజలజలోచనల, చేరికాబంధుల చెలులనీక్షణమె, పగరకుజొరరాక బహుదుర్గమార్గ, మగుకోహళమహర్షి యాశ్రమస్థలిని, జేరిచి మనము నిశ్చింతనేతెంచి, యారూఢిబలయుక్తి నచ్చాళిగాగ, అనికిసన్నద్ధులమై యందమవల.' Pātivratya. 35.

(p. 110) ajavañjavamu āja-vanjavamu. [Skt.] n. The world, earthly ties. A family. సంసారము. 'ఆజవంజవభ్రమాతీత మార్గుడై.' (Chenn. iv. 132.) He who is freed from earthly ties. అజవంజవమానమాలిన్యము worldy defilement.

(p. 159) uddhariñcu ud-dharinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To raise, lift, set up, support, up-hold, re-establish, restore, rescue, deliver, preserve, protect. పైకెత్తు, కాపాడు. వేదములనుద్ధరించు to restore the Vedas. సంసారమునుద్ధరించు to support the family. 'నగరగలిసిన గ్రామము నుద్ధరించినాడు' he saved the village which had been sequestrated.

(p. 665) nis nis. [Skt. a form of నిర్.] A negative prefix like un or in. నిస్త్రాణ nis-trāṇa. n. Weakness. నిస్పృహము nis-pṛihamu. adj. Hopeless. అశలేని. నిస్పృహత్వము nis-pṛihatvamu. n. The being without any wish or hope. Indifference, listlessness. Philosophy. నిస్పృహుడు nis-prihuḍu. n. A philosopher, a calm observer, a man of an equable mind unaffected by ordinary events. adj. Indifferent or listless. నిస్సంగుడు nis-sajuḍu. n. One who has quitted his family. A recluse, hermit. నిస్సంతు nis-santu. adj. Without children or offspring, without an heir. సంతానములేని. అతని వంశము నిస్సంతు అయిపోయినది his family is without a representative, is extinct. నిస్సందేహము or నిస్సంశయము nis-san-dēhamu. adj. Undoubted. n. The absence of doubt. నిస్సత్తువ nis-sattuva. n. Weakness, a want of nerve, debility. Poorness of soil. ఆశక్తి. బలహీనత. నిస్తంత్రము nis-tantramu. adj. Easy, deliberate. నిస్తండ్రము nis-tandramu. adj. Unwearied, in-defatigable. నిస్తరించు nis-tarinṭsu. v. a. To cross safely. చక్కగా దాటు. To succeed, get through, be delivered. కడతేరు. విస్తరణము or విస్తారము nis-taraṇamu. n. Crossing. దాటుట. నిస్తారకుడు nis-tāra-kuḍu. n. A deliverer, redeemer. కడతేర్చువాడు. నిస్సరణము nis-saraṇamu. n. An entrance. ఇల్లులోనగువాని ముందటి భాగము. Exit, going out. వెడలిపోవుట. నిస్సారము nis-sāramu. Sapless, pithless, dry, exhausted. సారములేని, నిస్సారముచేయు to exhaust. ఈ నిస్సారపు సంసారము in this worthless world.

(p. 701) paḍu paḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To feel, To fall, పతనమగు, రాలు. To lie down, శయనించు. To be, to occur, or happen, సంభవించు, కలుగు. To be caught in a snare. To suffer pain, శ్రమమొందు. To be killed in battle. చచ్చు. To be buried, as money, పూడు. To set, అస్తమించు. v. a. To experience, అనుభవించు. To incur, undergo, enjoy, feel, పొందు. నేను పడిన బాధ నాకే తెలుసును I alone know what I have suffered. Added to nouns it forms them into verbs. సమ్మతిపడు to agree. సంతోషపడు to be pleased. సంతాపపడు to feel sorry. చింతపడు to be anxious. తిట్లుపడు to be reviled. తొందరపడు to be in distress. భయపడు to fear. మానుపడు to be stunned. వానికి నక్కిళ్లు పడినవి he has the lockjaw. It may be added in a similar way to past participles. ఉలికిపడు to start. తూగిపడు to slumber. It is also added to adjectives or verbs. ఎర్రపడు to redden, blush or turn red. వేరుపడు to be separated. ఏర్పడు to become. It may even be added to an interjection, కటకటపడు to cry Alas, to pity. తహతహపడు to be in trouble. ఆ యిల్లు పడినది that house is fallen in. ఆ వలలో నాలుగు పక్షులు పడినవి four birds were caught in the snare. అక్కడ ఒక పల్లము పడినది a hollow has formed there. ఆ యుద్ధములో నలుగురు పడినారు or పడిపోయినాడు four persons were killed in the battle. వానికి బంకపడుచున్నది he passes slime or mucus. వానికి పురుగులు పడినవి he passed worms. వానికి కుడిచెయ్యి పడినది his right hand has become paralysed. వారు వెనుకపడినారు they fell back, they retired. ఆ మతములో పడినాడు he embraced that religion. పేరుపడన renowned, celebrated, notorious. తటస్థపడినప్పుడు when an opportunity occurs. మరుగుపడినారు they went out of sight. నాకు వచ్చిన ఆపదకు వాడు అడ్డపడినాడు he stood in the way of the misfortune that happened to me. వారిద్దరికిని పడదు they do not agree, they are on bad terms. దానినోటిలో పడకుము do not put it in her power to abuse you. ఆ బావిలో మంచినీళ్లు పడినవి sweet water broke forth in the well. వానితో పడలేను I cannot get on with him. నాకు ఇప్పుడు పోవడము పడదు I cannot go now. ఇంకా విత్తనము పడలేదు the seed is not yet sown. ఆ చేనిలో అడ్డముగా పడి వారిపోయినాడు he ran away across the field. ఆ యిల్లు ఊరికె పడియున్నది that house is unoccupied. ఆ రూకలు ఊరిక పడియున్నవి that money is untouched, it is lying idle. ఆ సంసారము నా నెత్తిని పడినది that family is now left on my hands. ఆ నష్టము నా తలమిద పడినది I incurred that loss. Added to the root in A it forms the passive voice, thus కొట్టపడు to be beaten; చూడబడు to be seen. It is added at pleasure to some adverbs, thus బోర్లపడిన prostrate. తలక్రిందులుపడు to be topsy turvy, upside down, to be conceited. అది బయటపడినది it came to light. The causal form is పరుచు or పరచు. తొందరపరచు to trouble, torment. పడగొట్టు paḍa-goṭṭu. v. a. To knock down. పడదన్ను paḍa-dannu. v. a. To kick down. పడదొక్కు paḍa-lokku. v. a. To tread down. పడదోయు paḍa-dōya. v. a. To thrust down, knock down. పడవేయు paḍa-vēyu. v. a. To cast or throw down. పడిపోవు paḍi-pōvu. v. n. To fall down, to die. ఆయన పడిపోయిన తర్వాత after his decease. పడుకొను paḍu-konu. v. n. To lie down, recline. పడువ paḍuva. n. A very low place. మిక్కిలి పల్లమైనచోటు. పడువరి paḍu-vari. (పడు+వరి.) n. A crop or sprouts produced by seeds of paddy, that fall by chance as the crops are cut. పడ్డ paḍḍa. [contr. for పడిన.] pp. Fallen, &c., thus, పిలువబడ్డవాడు the man who was called. ఉంచబడ్డవాడు he who was kept there.

(p. 746) pālu pālu. [Tel.] n. A share or portion. భాగము, వంతు. Possession, charge, వశము. infl. పాలి, or పాలిటి; local ablative పాల or పాలిటి. plu. పాళ్లు. నా వయసు నీపాలుచేసినాను I yielded up my youth to thee. అతని పాలికి వచ్చినది యిది this is what fell to his share. నీపాలిదైవము or నీపాలిటిదైవము your good angel, your tutelary God. వాడు నాపాలిటికి యముడు he has been a curse to me. వేములుపండి కాకులపాలైనవి a proverb regarding the wealth of a prodigal. పరులపాలైన given up to others or sacrificed. దొంగలపాలైన abandoned to thieves. రచ్చలపాలుకావడము to become a prey to ridicule, to become a laughing stock. అప్పుల పాలయినాడు he has fallen into debt. పాలబాన or పాలుబాన pāla-bāna. n. The ryot's share of the crop, ఉభయరాశి అంబారములో కాపునకు చేరే వర్తనధాన్యము. 'కష్టపడి పైరుచేసే సంసారి, ముద్రపిండి, వినాయకునిచాట, గుగ్గిళ్లగంప, పాలుబాన, రాశి అడుగు, ఇవి పుచ్చుకొని,' Miscell. iii. 430. పాలాడు pāl-āḍu. v. a. To divide into shares. To cut, to sever, to separate, ఖండించు. పాలారుచు or పాలార్చు pālā-ruṭsu. (పాలు+అరుచు.) v. a. To disregard, to neglect, ఉపేక్షించు. భాగ. iii. పాలుచేయు pālu-chēyu. v. a. To hand over, give over to, deliver, sacrifice. నన్ను అప్పులపాలుచేసినాడు he plunged me in debt. పాలుపడు or పాల్పడు pālupaḍu. v. n. To undertake, to enter upon, to share, to engage in. పూనుకొను, పైనవేసికొను. To be subject to, స్వాధీనమగు. 'వివిధచేష్టలకుంబాలుపడి.' B. X. §. 30. పాలుపుచ్చు or పాలుపెట్టు pālu-puṭsṭsu. v. a. To deduct or subtract: to divide or separate, విభాగించు. To decide or settle, నిర్ణయించు. వేదనపాలుకాలేను I cannot endure being a prey to grief. పాలుగలవాడు a co-heir, a cousin, దాయాదివాడు. 'పాలుగలవాడు మన కొకజాలియిడక, తానతారసానకు వచ్చెన్.' A. iii. 39. పాలుపోవు pālu-pōvu. v. n. To be divided or shared. విభక్తమగు. To be decided, నిర్ణీతమగు. ఒకరిని పాలుబోక ఆ పనిని అట్టె పడవేసిపెట్టినారు no one undertook the work, so it was left undone. అది యెటు వ్రాయడానకు పాలుపోక విడిచినాను unable to decide how to write the passage. I omitted it. పాలుభోగగ్రామము pālu-bhōga-grā-mamu. n. A village wherein each field is held as one man's separate property.

(p. 768) punḥ punaha. [Skt.] prep. Again, (in composition.) Thus పునర్విమర్శ or పునర్విచారణ a review, a re-trial. ఈ దావా హైకోర్టువారివల్ల పునర్విచారణకు పంపబడ్డది this suit is remanded by the High Court for a re-trial. పునఃచేసినవిచారణ a repeated inquiry. పునఃపునః again and again. పునఃప్రతిష్ఠ re-consecration. పునరుక్తము punar-uktamu. adj. A word like '&c.' ఆ విగ్రహము పూజాపునస్కారము లేక పడియున్నది homage and the like is no longer offered to that image. పునస్సంధానము punas-sandhā-namu. n. Lit: Bringing together again. మరలకూర్చుట. A preliminary ceremony. Also used for the ceremony performed at the consummation of marriage.

(p. 818) pōtamu pōtamu. [Skt.] n. A vessel, boat, ship. ఓడ. The young of any animal. పిల్ల. శిశువు. An elephant ten years old, పదేండ్ల యేనుగు. A cloth, వస్త్రము. శుకపోతము a young parrot. వాతపోతము a young breeze, i.e., a light wind. పోతపాత్రిక pōta-pātrika. n. A vessel, a ship, ఓడ. 'సంసార సాగరమతుల ధైర్యపోత పాత్రికనిస్తరింపుముకు మార.' M. XII. vi. 222. పోతవణిక్కు or పోతవణిజుడు pōta-vaṇikku. n. A sea-faring merchant. ఓడను కేవుకు పుచ్చుకొన్నవాడు, ఓడ బేరగాడు. పోతవహుడు or పోతనాహుడు pōta-vahuḍu. n. A rower, a boatman, a steersman. ఓడనడుపువాడు, తండేలు.

A prison house, చెరసాల. బంధస్తంభము a post to which an elephant is tied. బంధించు bandhinṭsu. v. a. To tie, bind, tighten. కట్టు, బంధనము చేయు. v. n. To be bound or stopped, as urine, &c. మలము బంథించినది there was a stoppage of the fœces.

(p. 919) bhavamu bhavamu. [Skt.] n. Being, existence, subsistence. Earthly or corporeal existence. The condition of being on earth. Birth as a mortal, పుట్టుక, భవదూరుడు immortal, released from the bonds of the flesh; free from mortal birth. In theology, sin, the sinful state, or mortality are subject to sin, సంసారము. భవబంధములు earthly ties, as those of kindred. భవదుఃఖములు the ills of human life. భవమోక్షణము a release from mortal life. M. XIII. v. 410. adj. In composition, arising from, produced or caused by. భవాండము bhav-ānḍamu. n. The world. బ్రహ్మాండము.

(p. 995) muktamu muktamu. [Skt.] adj. Freed, released, liberated, discharged, sent (as a weapon). ముక్తకవచుడు disarmed, freed from his armour. ముక్తత్వము mukta-tvamu. n. Freedom, release, liberty. విమోచనము. ముక్తపదగ్రస్తము mukta-pada-grastamu. n. Reiteration somewhat similar to caffing verses. అంతాది. ముక్తాఫలము muktā-phalamu. n. A pearl, ముత్యము. ముక్తాఫలములవలెనుండు లిపి a pearly hand in writing, i.e., round, clear, and beautiful. ముక్తాయించు to finish (in music.) ముక్తార్థము a summary, the purport. ముక్తావళి mukt-āvali. n. A pearl necklace. ముత్యాలహారము. ముక్తాస్ఫోటము muktā-sphōṭamu. n. A pearl oyster. శుక్తి. ముత్తెపుచిప్ప. ముక్తి mukti. n. The delivery of the soul from the body, and its exemption from further transmigration, liberation, deliverance, emancipation, మోక్షము. సంసారముక్తి or భవముక్తి release from all earthly bonds or mortal ties. 'మానుగభవముక్తి గలుగు మహిలో.' Vema. 481. ముక్తుడు muktuḍu. n. One who is freed, emancipated or released from the body. మోక్షమును పొందినవాడు.

(p. 1000) muḍi muḍi. [Tel.] n. A knot. గ్రంధి. A knot of hair, వెండ్రుకలముడి. A knot or joint in wood, చెట్టులోనగువానిబుడిపి. The hump of an ox, ఎద్దు మూపురము. A quarrel, కలహము. A form of a letter written like a knot as మామిడి the letter ్మ నాముడి the letter ్న. తాముడి the secondary form of the letter త. i.e., ్త. An union, joining, సంధి. Also, another form of ముడ్డి. (q. v.) వాడు దానిని ముడిపెట్టుకొన్నాడు he tied the nuptial knot to her, he married her. ముళ్లుకత్తిరించేవాడు a pick-pocket. ఆమె తలముడి వీడినది her hair fell loose, the knot being untied. ముడివిప్పు to untie or open a knot. ఆ దారములో ముళ్లుపడ్డవి that string has formed into knots. ముడివక్కలు unbroken (or whole) areca nuts, గుంటపోకచెక్కలు. బొమలుముడిపెట్టు to knit the eye-brows. ఒకవ్యాజ్యమును ముడివేసి విడిచిపెట్టినాడు he cast a bone of dispute between them. 'పడంతిమది ముడిసడలన్.' Bhadra Parin. iii. 297. దాని మనసనేగ్రంధి వీడునప్పటికి. ముడి muḍi. adj. Closed, వికసింపని. Entire, whole, unbroken, ఖండముకాని. ముడిపూలు unblown flowers. 'ముడిపూలపొట్లముల్.' Illa. ii. 163. ముడి౛ొన్నలు the great millet enclosed in its husk. ముడినువ్వులు sesamum seeds which are not cleaned. ముడిపోక an entire areca nut. ముడిబియ్యము rice that is not well cleaned, చేబియ్యము. ముడికట్టు muḍi-kaṭṭu. n. Certain fees on a crop for the benefit of the landlord. A truss of straw, a sheaf. v. a. To tie a knot. To tie a knot in a man's cloth to remind him that you call upon him to be a witness. అందుగురించి పెద్దలు ముడికట్టినారు our anscestors have laid down this rule or held this doctrine. ముడికాడు muḍi-kāḍu. n. One who ties a knot, one who unites, సంధానముచేయువాడు. ముడికాళ్లు muḍi-kāḷḷu. n. Knock-knees. ముడికాళ్లవాడు a man who is knock-kneed. ముట్టికాళ్లవాడు. ముడికాళ్లది a woman who is knock-kneed. ముడికొక్కు muḍi-kokku. n. A weevil. నంగనాచి. ముడికొను, ముడిగొను or ముడిపడు muḍi-konu. v. n. To be tied in a knot. ముడికొన్న or ముడిగొన్న muḍi-konna. adj. Tied, bound. బద్ధమైన. 'ముడిగొన్న సంసారమోహబంధములు వెడదన్ని సుజ్ఞాని వెడలినమాడ్కి.' DRK. 372. ముడికొలుపు muḍi-kolupu. v. a. To cause to be tied in a knot. ముడిగిబ్బ muḍi-gibba. n. An ox, a bull, ఆబోతు. ముడిపంచె or ముడిబట్ట muḍi-panche. n. A plain cotton cloth without any coloured border. నెల్లాగుడ్డ. ముడిపడు or ముడిపడు muḍi-paḍu. v. n. To be tied in a knot, ముడిగలదియగు. To be united, సంధించు. To be entangled, పెనగొను. To be confounded, puzzled. చీకాకుపడు. 'ముడిపడెననియెడదంజిడి, ముడిపడకుడు.' N. vii. 312. 'మొగమున చీకట్లుముడివడ.' HD. ii. 1380.
