(p. 758) pilli pilli. [Tel.] n. A cat. ఊరపిల్లి a tame cat. Several different animals go by this name: as ౛వ్వాదిపిల్లి, భూతపిల్లి, నీటిపిల్లి, బావురుపిల్లి, ౛ంగుపిల్లి and some more. పునుగుపిల్లి, a civet cat. పిల్లికండ్లు blue eyes (lit: 'cat's eyes.') పిల్లికూత mewing. పిలికూన a kitten. పిల్లిలాగు like a cat, i.e., demurely, harmlessly. పిల్లిగుణము a feline disposition. కాలుకాలిన పిల్లివలె తిరుగుచున్నాడు he wanders about like a cat whose feet are burnt. పిల్లి n. A corruption of పల్లె as కొండపిల్లి, ఈడేపిల్లి, &c. పిల్లికన్రతనము (పిల్లికన్ను+రతనము) a precious stone, a cat's eye, వైడూర్యము. పిల్లిగడ్డ pill-gaḍḍa n. A root called Urtica tuberosa. Rox. iii. 583. Musk. పునుగుచట్టము. పిల్లడుగుచెట్టు (పిల్లి+అడుగు+చెట్టు.) pill-aḍugu-cheṭṭu n. Cowach, a certain plant కపికచ్ఛూ, ఎగ్గోగిల. Rox. iii. 283. పిల్లిమీసర గడ్డ pilli-mīsara-gaḍḍa. n. Cat's whiskers, a sort of plant. Rasica. i.pref.

(p. 775) pullu or పులు pullu. [Tel.] n. Grass: foulness in precious stones. గడ్డి, రత్నాదుల మాలిన్యము. adj. Little, small, అల్పము. పుల్లంటురాయి pull-anṭu-rayi. n. A sapphire, ఇంద్రనీలము. పుల్లిరుసు or పులిరుసు pull-irusu. n. The little wheel over which the bottom rope of a water-lift (కపిల) runs to upset the bucket when it reaches the top. పుల్లుడి pull-uḍi. (పుల్లు+ఉడి.) n. Poor land, land productive only at intervals. ఒకానొక సంవత్సరము సెద్యానకు పనికివచ్చునేల. పుల్లరి pull-arti. (పుల్లు+అరి.) n. Tax, a tax on pasture lands. Also, a tax levied on a fishery, or a head-tax on cattle. పుల్లురుకుపాము pull-uruka-pamu. n. A sort of snake which springs out of grass.

(p. 782) pūsa pūsa. [Tel.] n. A bead, మణి. A joint of a finger, వ్రేలులోనగువాని కీలు. A bit or piece. వెన్నుపూసలు the joints of the backbone. ముడ్డిపూస the rump, os coccyx. 'చిటివేలిపూసపై ఘటియిల్లు పెడకట్టి చిమ్ముల నురియడాల్ముమ్మరముగ.' A. vi. 104. వెన్నపూస a bit of butter, i.e., butter. 'పుట్టనియట్టి బిడ్డలకు పూసలు కట్టుదు రమ్మలక్కలు.' (Ahalya. iii. 63.) women call for necklaces for their children before they are born, i.e., they count the chickens before they are hatched. పూసగ్రుచ్చినరీతి (KP. iv. 193.) in regular order. పూసకజ్జెము pūsa-kajjemu. n. The sweetmeat called maccaroons. పూసకామంచిగడ్డి or పూసలకామంచిగడ్డి pūsa-kāmanchi-gaḍḍi. n. A kind of కామంచి. పూసగురువెంద pūsa-guruvenda. n. A kind of head. గుంజాలత. పూసయొమ్ము or పూసయెముక the back bone, వెన్నుపూస. 'చేదోయికురుచయై చెవులు నిల్వంకలై పూసయెమ్ముకలు పొంచుకట్టి.' Kāsi Khānd. vi. 48. పూసలవాడు pūsala-vāḍu. n. One who sells beads, one who polishes precious stones, రత్నములు సానపెట్టువాడు.

(p. 797) pērozamu, pērōjamu or పేరోదనము pēroḍzamu. [Tel.] n. A kind of sapphire. ఒకవిధమైన మరకతము. 'పేరొ౛ంబుమణుల మొగముట్టు.' స్వా. iv. A kind of inferior precious stone, ఒకవిధమైన క్షుద్రమణి.

(p. 809) podugu or పొదువు podugu. [Tel.] v. a. To cover: to envelope, to surround, to encircle. కప్పు, ఆవరించు. To embrace, To set, as precious stones. చెక్కు. To sit on eggs. కెంపులుపొదిగిననగ a jewel set with rubies. పొదుగుడు or పొదువుడు poduguḍu. n. The act of covering, కప్పుట, కప్పుట. పొదుగుడుకోళ్లు brood hens, hens that are hatching. పిల్లలుచేయుటకు గుడ్లమీదనుండేకోళ్లు. పొదిగొను, పొదిగికొను or పొదివికొను podi-gonu. v. a. To surround, to encircle, చుట్టుకొను. పరివేష్టించు. పొదుగు n. Baby-linen. పొత్తిగుడ్డలు. 'మెత్తగా బొదుగలరించి కొమారు నుంచి రాధా దులటన్.' G. iii. 40. బొదుగలరించి, అనగా పొత్తిగుడ్డలు పరచి.

(p. 849) pruccu or పుచ్చు pruṭsṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To rot, పుచ్చిపోవు. ప్రుప్పి or పుప్పి pruppi. n. Rottenness, rotting, పుచ్చిపోవుట. A flaw in a precious stone, ఒకవిధమైన మణి దోషము.

(p. 857) baṅgāramu, baṅgaramu, baṅgāru or బంగరు bangāramu. [Tel.] n. Gold. నీ యిల్లు బంగారముకాను or నీబుద్ధి బంగారముకాను bless your innocent heart! you silly creature! కాకి బంగారు tinsel. ముచ్చిబంగారు tinsel, gilding, as distinguished from మంచిబంగారు real gold. బంగారు bangāru. adj. Golden. The various names of gold are used (as in other languages) to denote Fine, noble, beautiful, admirable, thus: బంగారు కొండ or బంగరుకొండ the golden mountain, హేమాద్రి, మేరుపర్వతము; my darling. నా బంగారుదొర my beloved lord! బంగారుపట్ట sweet bird! Also, used to express contempt. బంగారు మర్యాద vastly polite! బంగారున్యాయము a precious reason! బంగారు పని a very pretty business! బంగారు చిన్నవాడు a hopeful lad. వాడు పుట్టినది అంతా బంగారు అవుచువచ్చినది all he did prospered. బంగారుగా bangāru-gā. adv. Grandly. vastly, well, preciously, As easily as possible. As you please! with all my heart! by all means! బంగారుకంటి bang-āru-kanṭi. n. (Lit:) Golden-eyed: A name of a Little Owl, పైడికంటిల and also of a sort of rice. బంగారుతీగలు bangāru-tīgalu. n. (Lit: Gold-sprouts:) A sort of rice. శాలిధాన్యము. బంగారునీరు bangāru-nīmu. n. Gilding. బంగారుపాము bangāru-pāmu. n. A very venomous kind of snake. బంగారుపిచ్చిక bangāru-pichchi-ka. n. The Weaver-bird, Ploccus baya. బంగారుపూత bangāru-pata. n. Gilding. బంగారుపూతలు a kind of grain.

(p. 946) maṇi maṇi. [Skt.] n. A gem, a precious stone. పచ్చరాయిలోనగునది. A pearl, ముత్తెములోనగునది. In compounds this denotes Unrivalled excellence, as నాయికామణి a woman who is a gem of her sex. వప్రమణి the noblest of Brahmins. సుందరీమణి the loveliest of women. అంగనామణులు lovely women. దినమణి the gem of day, i.e., the sun. నవమణులు nine precious stones, viz. గోమేధికము Onyx, నీలము Sapphire, పగడము Coral, పుర్యరాగము Topaz, మరకతము Emerald, మాణిక్యము Ruby, Carbuncle; ముత్యము Pearl, వైడూర్యము Cat's eye. lapis lazuli; వజ్రము Diamond. మణులుచెక్కిన సంకెళ్లు jewelled fetters, i.e., disguised difficulties. మణికంఠము maṇi-kanṭhamu. n. The Indian Roller, Corracia indica, చాషము, పాలపిట్ట మణికట్టు, మనికట్టు or మణిబంధము maṇi-kaṭtu. [Tel.] n. The wrist; మణికట్లను తెగగొట్టు to cut off the hands. మణికారుడు maṇi-kāruḍu. n. A jeweller. A lapidary, or worker in precious stones. రత్నములు సానబట్టువాడు. మణిపట్టు maṇi-paṭṭu. n. A sort of flowered silk. ఒకవిధమైనపట్టు. మణిప్రవాళము maṇi-pravāḷamu. n. A doggerel verse: or a mixed language, part Sanscrit, part Telugu or Tamil, రెండు భాషలు కలిసిన. ముణిభతు maṇi-phittu. n. A diamond. Lit.
