(p. 742) pārijātamu pāri-jātamu. [Skt.] n. Amaranth. The Coral tree, Erythrina fulgens. పగడమల్లి. Also, the Mimusops elengi. One of the trees in Paradise. కల్పవృక్షము పారిజాతాపహరణము pārijāt-āpaharaṇamu. n. The 'Rape of the Amaranth.' This is the title of a popular poem.

(p. 731) pāñcālamu pānchālamu. [Skt.] n. The Punjab. The country north of Delhi, between the foot of the Himalayas and the Chambal. పంజాబుదేశము. పాంచాలి pānchāli. n. The daughter of the king of Pānchāla; a title of Draupadi, the wife of the five Pāndu princes. ద్రౌపది. పాంచాలిక pānchālika. n. A doll or puppet, an image carved on pillars, &c. బొమ్మ, నరమృగాదిరూపము. పాంచాలుడు pānchāluḍu. n. A member of any one of the five castes of artificers, viz., the carpenters, weavers, barbers, washermen, painters. వడ్లవాడు, సాలెవాడు, మంగలవాడు, చాకలవాడు, ముచ్చివాడు, ఈ అయిదు జాతులందు దేనిలోనైనను చేరినవాడు.

(p. 739) pāpaṭamu or పాపనము pāpaṭamu. [Tel. from పాయు.] n. A harrow, or hoeing instrument. పాపటతోలు pāpaṭa-tōlu. v. n. To harrow. పాపడము pāpaḍamu. n. Harrowing. పైపాపడానకుకూలి the hire for harrowing.

(p. 732) pāku or ప్రాకు pāku. [Tel.] To creep or crawl. పాకించు pākinṭsu. v. a. To train, as a vine or other creeper. పాకుడు or ప్రాకుడు pākuḍu. n. A trellis for a vine or other creeper. Anything that spreads or creeps; mossiness; the scum or greenness on putrid water. Dirt on the teeth. పండ్లపాచి. Dirt, nastiness, మాలిన్యము. పాకులాడు pākul-āḍu. To creep or crawl. To scramble. పరులను పట్టుకొని పాకులాడితే యేమికద్దు why ask the help of strangers. పాకొను or ప్రాకొను pā-konu. v. n. To attach itself to, or to stick to, as dirt or moss. పాకొన్ననుయి a green pool. 'పాకొన్న నూతియుకము, మేకలపాడియునురో తమేదినిసుమతీ.'

A sin, a crime. పంచమహాపాతకములు the five great sins, viz, killing a Brahmin (బ్రహ్మ హత్య), stealing gold (స్వర్ణస్తేయము,) drinking intoxicating liquor (సురాపానము) dishonoring a teacher's wife (గురుపత్నీగమనము) and association with such as are guilty of any of these sins (ఇవి చేయువారి తోడి సహవాసము) పాతకి or పాతకుడు pātaki. n. A sinner.

'మెలకువరసి కోటచులుకదాటి పాలెమున్న వారిపై నొల్కిబూడిదెమన్నుజల్లి, పెద్దమదులు కొంతకూలద్రవ్వి.' G. 120. 'మృగయావిహారముల్ దేవదలిర్పజేయుటకు శీఘ్రమపాళియమెత్తి.' The ebb of the tide. సముద్రపునీరు పొంగి తగ్గుట. రెప్పపాటు (lit: eye-lid-fall.) a wink or blink. బల్లిపాటు the fall of a lizard. చెవిటివాడు పెదవిపారు గ్రహించును a deaf man understands the motions of the lips. వారు పడే పాట్లు చెప్పనలవికాదు the hardships they suffer are indescribable. కుక్కపడేపాట్లు పడుచున్నాడు he leads the life of a dog. ఎన్నిపాట్లు పడినను వాడు చిక్కలేదు though we did all we could we did not find him. వాడు పడ్డపాట్లు వృధాగాపోవునా will all his trouble be in vain. వచ్చినపాటుననే as soon as he comes. అది ఆపాటుననే ఉన్నది it remains as it was, it remains unaltered. అది యేపాటుననున్నదో ఆపాటుననే ఉండనిమ్ము leave it as it is . అదోకపాటుగానుండేనేల a declivity, slope or descent. పోటుపాటు the ebb and flow of a river or sea, బోర్లపాటులు vile pranks. పొరపాటు an error.
