(p. 820) pōrkāḍiñcu or పోరకాడించు pōrkāḍinṭsu v. a. To bathe an infant. నీళ్లు పోయు. 'పలుమరదల యంటితగన్, నలుగిడిదో యిళ్లజలములం బోర్కాడించి.' KP. vi. 205.

(p. 793) peluca , పెల్చ, పెలుచన or పెల్చన peluṭsa. [Tel.] n. Greatness, అతిశయము, ఆధిక్యము. Anger, wrath, ఆగ్రహము. Hardness, harshness, కాఠిన్యము. adj. Great, అధికము. పెలుచ. adv. Excessively, exceedingly, much. 'తత్తీక్ష్ణబాణౌమము ఘోరంబైసురానీకములను బెలుచంగప్పినంజూచి.' M. I. ii. 24.

(p. 828) pratipālakuḍu prati-pālakuḍu. [Skt.] n. One who protects or defends. A king, a protector. రక్షకుడు. ప్రతిపాలనము prati-pālanamu. n. Protecting, defending, cherishing, రక్షణము. ప్రతిపాలించు prati-pālinṭsu. v. a. To protect, defend, cherish. రక్షించు. కాపాడు.

(p. 782) pūsa pūsa. [Tel.] n. A bead, మణి. A joint of a finger, వ్రేలులోనగువాని కీలు. A bit or piece. వెన్నుపూసలు the joints of the backbone. ముడ్డిపూస the rump, os coccyx. 'చిటివేలిపూసపై ఘటియిల్లు పెడకట్టి చిమ్ముల నురియడాల్ముమ్మరముగ.' A. vi. 104. వెన్నపూస a bit of butter, i.e., butter. 'పుట్టనియట్టి బిడ్డలకు పూసలు కట్టుదు రమ్మలక్కలు.' (Ahalya. iii. 63.) women call for necklaces for their children before they are born, i.e., they count the chickens before they are hatched. పూసగ్రుచ్చినరీతి (KP. iv. 193.) in regular order. పూసకజ్జెము pūsa-kajjemu. n. The sweetmeat called maccaroons. పూసకామంచిగడ్డి or పూసలకామంచిగడ్డి pūsa-kāmanchi-gaḍḍi. n. A kind of కామంచి. పూసగురువెంద pūsa-guruvenda. n. A kind of head. గుంజాలత. పూసయొమ్ము or పూసయెముక the back bone, వెన్నుపూస. 'చేదోయికురుచయై చెవులు నిల్వంకలై పూసయెమ్ముకలు పొంచుకట్టి.' Kāsi Khānd. vi. 48. పూసలవాడు pūsala-vāḍu. n. One who sells beads, one who polishes precious stones, రత్నములు సానపెట్టువాడు.

(p. 767) puṇyamu puṇyamu. [Skt.] n. Virtue, holiness, merit, excellence, purity. ధర్మము. A good deed, a good or meritorious work or action, a work of supererogation, that which is more than required as a matter of duty. సుకృతము. adj. Virtuous, sacred, holy, pure, righteous. పవిత్రము. Good, excellent, మనోజ్ఞము. Charitable, generous. పుణ్యశ్లోకుడు a celebrated man. పుణ్యకథలు godly legends. పుణ్యకాలము an auspicious time. పుణ్యస్త్రీ (corrupted into పునిస్త్రీ) a happy woman, one whose husband is living. నన్ను ఉత్త పుణ్యానికి కొట్టినాడు he beat me without cause, meaning the same as నిష్కారణముగా. నీపుణ్యముచేత తొందరవచ్చినది (ironical) for this trouble we may thank you. ఇది అంతా మీ పుణ్యము this is all due to you goodness. నీపుణ్యముండును వాని జోలికిమాత్రము పోకు for goodness' sake do not meddle with him. పుణ్యానికి ఇచ్చినపొలము a field granted in free gift. A well known verse says. శ్లోకార్ధేన ప్రవక్ష్యామి యుదక్తం గ్రంథకోటిభిః, పరోపకారః పుణ్యాయపాపాయ పరపీడనం. పుణ్యజనుడు puṇya-januḍu. n. A man of excellence, a holy man, సుజనుడు. A Rākshasa, an evil spirit, రాక్షసుడు. పుణ్యజనేశ్వరుడు puṇya-janēṣvaruḍu. n. Kubēra. పుణ్యబూమి puṇya-bhūmi. n. The Holy land (of the Hindus), i.e., Hindustan, the land between the Himalayas and the Vindhyas. పుణ్యలోకము puṇya-lōkamu. n. Heaven. పుణ్యవంతుడు puṇya-vantuḍu. n. One who is holy or virtuous. ధార్మికుడు, అదృష్టవంతుడు. ఈ విషయములో అతడు చాలా పుణ్యవంతుడు. in this respect he is very lucky. పుణ్యస్త్రీ or పుణ్యాంగన puṇya-strī. n. A good housewife, good woman, lady. పుణ్యాత్ముడు puny-ātmuḍu. n. A holy, pious or charitable person, పుణ్యస్వరూపుడు. పుణ్యాహము puṇy-āhamu. n. A holy or sacred day, పుణ్యదినము. పుణ్యాహవాచనము puṇy-āha-vāchanamu. n. The consecration or hallowing of a ceremony. A ceremonial purification. పుణ్యుడు puṇyudu. n. A holy or virtuous man. పుణ్యులారా O holy men!
