(p. 761) pīru pīru. [H.] n. An image of a Mahomedan saint, made in the form of a hand, used by Mussalmans at the Mohurrum, తురకలు ఊరేగించు ప్రతిమ. పిర్లపండుగ pīrla-panḍuga. n. The Mohurram. పీరుసుడి pīru-suḍi. n. A waterspout at sea. If descending, it is called అవుతు.

Yellow. పీతదారువు pīta-dāruvu. n. A tree called the deodar. దేవదారువు. పితాంబరము pīt-āmbaramu. n. A yellow garment. పీతాంబరుడు pīt-āmbaruḍu. n. The god who is clothed in a saffron robe, an epithet of Vishṇu. పీతముండము pīta-munḍamu. n. A yellow throated bird. పచ్చతల పిచ్చుక.

(p. 795) pēnu pēnu. [Tel.] v. n. and v. a. To twist, or entwine. కలిపిపేను to twist together. See పేడు.

(p. 784) peñcu or పెనుచు penṭsu. [Tel. from పెను.] v. a. To nourish, support, take care of. To adopt or rear a child, పోషించు, సాకు. To increase, improve. To extend or swell. To exaggerate, to multiply. మాంసము మాంసమును పెంచును flesh meat increases the flesh. కలహము పెంచినాడు he fomented the quarrel. గ్రంథము ఊరక పెంచెను he spun the story (or book) out. గడ్డము పెంచు to grow or wear a beard తలపెంచు to wear one's hair long, to keep one's head unshorn. చెవులుపెంచు or చెవులు కుట్టించు to bore the ears. Chenn. iii.145. ముక్కుపెంచు to keep a hole open for a nose-jewel. దుఃఖముపెంచు to indulge in grief, దుఃఖముపొందు, దుఃఖించు. ND. i. 702. రోగమును పెంచినాడు he increased the illness. కథనుపెంచు to exaggerate. See పెంపు & పెంపకము. పెంచుకొను penṭsu-konu. v. a. To adopt. దత్తుతీసికొను.

(p. 781) pūrṇamu pūrṇamu. [Skt.] adj. Full, filled, నిండిన. Complete, all, entire. సమస్తము. Strong, powerful, able. శక్తిగల. పూర్ణకము pūrṇakamu. n. A filling up; as పాదపూర్ణకము a peg in a verse: any useless word inserted to fill the measure, as ఒగి, తగన్, ఇల, &c. పూర్ణకుంభము pūrṇa-kumbhamu. n. An ornamented vase filled with water and used in marriages, &c. పూర్ణగర్భము pūrṇa-garbhamu. n. A sort of cake. బూరె. పూర్ణపాత్రము or పూర్ణానకము pūrṇa-pātramu. n. A full cup or vessel, a vessel filled with cloths or ornaments, which are scrambled for at a festival, a vessel full of rice presented at a sacrifice to the superintending and officiating priests. హర్షాదుత్సవకాలే యదలంకారాంబరాదికం. కట్నము కోసరము పండ్లు పసుపుబట్టలు మొదలైనవి ఉంచిన పళ్లెము; ఉత్సవకాలమందు సంతోషముచేత వస్త్రాభరణాదికమును దోచుకొనుట; వస్తుసంపూర్ణపాత్రము. పూర్ణమాసము or పౌర్ణమాసము pūrṇa-māsamu. n. A sacrifice performed on the day of the full moon. పూర్ణము or పూర్నము pūrṇamu. n. The inside of a pie. The stuffing of a cake. పూర్ణిమ or పౌర్ణిమాసి pūrṇima. n. The lunar day on which the moon is full. పున్నమ, పౌర్నమి. పూర్ణీభవించు pūrṇī-bhavinṭsu. v. n. To become full, నిండు, పూర్ణమగు. పూర్ణుడు pūrṇuḍu. n. One who is full or well skilled. వాడు విద్యలో పూర్ణుడు he is an accomplished scholar.

(p. 828) pratipattu prati-pattu. [Skt.] n. The first day of either lunar fortnight, i.e., the first of the moon's increase or wane. పాడ్యమి.

(p. 783) pṛṣṭhamu pṛishṭhamu. [Skt.] n. The back. వీపు. The rear, పశ్చాద్భాగము. The posteriors. ముడ్డి.

(p. 852) prōkṣaṇamu prōkshaṇamu. [Skt.] n. Sprinkling. నీళ్లు చిలకరించుట. Consecration of an idol by sprinkling. Killing an animal in sacrifice. ప్రోక్షించు prōkshinṭsu. v. a. To sprinkle, as water. చల్లు, చిలుకరించు. Sacrifice. ప్రోక్షితము prōkshitamu. adj. Sprinkled, shed (as water), wetted (as earth.) చిలుకరింపబడిన. Killed, slaughtered, offered in sacrifice. వధింపబడిన.

(p. 800) poñcu ponṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To lie in wait: to crouch or lurk. సొంతురు they will lie in wait. 'పగలు తీర్తుమనుచు తొగరేని బొంతురు.' R. i. 129. పొంచు or పొంచిక ponṭsu. n. Lurking, eavesdropping, lying in ambush. పొంచుండేదొంగ an eaves dropper.
