(p. 834) prapatti prapatti. [Skt.] n. Seeking or taking refuge గతివేరేలేదని పాదములను పట్టుకొనుట. శరణుచొచ్చుట. ప్రపన్నము prapannamu. adj. Taking refuge with, reaching, arriving at, seeking, adhering to. ప్రపత్తిచేసిన. ప్రపన్నుడు prapannuḍu. n. A votary, one who seeks refuge. శరణాగతుడు.

(p. 770) purāṇamu purāṇamu. [Skt.] adj. Old, ancient, పురాతనము. n. An ancient story, or legend, a mythological tale, a rhapsody or string of stories. The name of a class of books in Indian literature. పూర్వకథ. స్థలపురాణము local archives, a book regarding the origin of a town, &c. పౌరాణికకథ an old tale or romance. పురాణముచెప్పు to chant or read a legend to an audience. పురాణమువిను to be an auditor of a legend which is recited. పురాణభట్టుడు a mere block-head, one who recites a legend without knowing the meaning of it. పురాణించు or పురణించు purāṇinṭsu. v. n. To recite a Purāṇa, పురాణము చెప్పు. To become inveterate, chronic, or constitutional, as a disease, వర్ధిల్లు, విజృంభించు. వ్యాధి పురాణించినది the disease became chronic. పురాణ దంపతులు. purāṇa-dampatulu. n. The 'primeval pair,' a phrase for Siva and Pārvati, or Vishṇu and Lakshmi. A phrase like Adam and Eve.

(p. 852) prōrthitamu prōtthitamu. [Skt. ప్ర+ఉత్థితము.] adj. Risen, produced, happened. బయలుదేరిన. 'హ్రదాంభఃప్రోత్థితక్రోడనాయకము.' Swa. iv. 64.

(p. 822) pōsanamu pōsanamu. [Tel.] n. Milk. పాలు. A coating, painting, పైపూత. Brightness, brilliance, కాంతి 'పోసనంబులు ద్రావు పొసగకూలికిని, వాసికెక్కిన యేభ్యరాశివీడొకడు.' Sanand D. 156.

(p. 764) puṭamu puṭamu. [Skt.] n. A fold, a doubling. The cup or hollow formed by a fold, as in a flower or leaf or in any roll or in the joined hands, దొప్ప. A flower basket, పూలబుట్ట. A horse's hoof, గుర్రపు కాలిగొర౛. Burning or refining a metal, calcining a medicinal drug. A kind of horse's pace, అశ్వగతిభేదము. నాసికాపుటము the calix of the nose, i.e., the nose. పుటముపెట్టు or పుటమువేయు to heat metal in the fire, to calcine a drug. 'పనివిని తీవెగుంపనక, పాండురసైకత నిర్ఘరీతటం బనక, దరీపుటం బనక, నన్నియు నారసి.' Vasu. ii. 46. పుటముబ్బ puṭam-ubbu. (పుటము+ఉబ్బు.) v. n. To swell upwards, మీదికుబ్బు. పుటమొగయు puṭam-cgayu. v. n. To fly upwards. మీదికెగయు. To leap over, దాటు. పుటి puṭi. n. A cup or concavity made of a leaf folded or doubled, దొప్ప. A flower basket, పూల బుట్ట. పుటిక or పుట్టిక puṭika. A cup. A. i.92. A small basket, చిన్నగంప. పుటితము puṭitamu. adj. Folded, inserted, contained.

(p. 810) ponaru or ఒనరు ponaru. [Tel.] v. n. To happen, occur, అగు, పొసగు, కలుగు, సంభవించు. 'చ అనఘయపూర్వ భవదాగమునంబు దలంపనొక్కచో, బొనరినకయ్యమిప్పుడెగ బోయ గవచ్చినయట్లుతోచె.' T. iv. 226. n. Happening, కలుగుట. Suitability, harmony, agreement, పొందిక. Pleasantness, ఇంపు. పొనరు ponar-āru. v. n. To be fine or agreeable, ఒప్పు. పొనరుపడు ponaru-paḍu. v. n. To be agreeable, to suit, పొందుపడు. పొనరుచు or పొనర్చు ponaruṭsu. v. a. To cause to be done, to accomplish, కావించు. To cause to happen, పొసగించు. To fabricate, కల్పించు. 'క పొనరిచియాడెడుమాటల, గొనదల పకదుర్వినీత కోటిధనంబుల్' M. XII. ii. 199.

(p. 818) pōṭu pōṭu. [Tel.] n. A thrust, a stab, a blow. పొడుపు. కత్తిపోటు. A throb of pain. పోదుపు, నొప్పి. The swell of a river, or of the sea, the flow of the tides, high water, సముద్రోల్పణము, నద్యాదులజలవృద్ధి. Heroism, courage, శౌర్యము. A battle, యుద్ధము. వాడు ఇప్పుడు కొంచెము పోటుమీద నున్నాడు he is now drunk. 'నా కొడుకు పోటుమాటలు, నీకేటికి పొసగవాడ.' M. IV. v. 258. పోటుమాటలు అనగా ఎత్తిపొడుపుమాటలు. చెవిపోటు chevi-pōṭu. n. Ear-ache. ఆ కురుపు పోట్లు పొడుస్తున్నది the boil is throbbing. పోటాపోటీ pōṭā-pōṭī. n. Rivalry, emulation, competition, నీకంటే నాకనిపయిబడడము. వానికి నిన్న దర్భపోటుతగిలినది he was invited to the ceremony held on the anniversary of a man's father's death. పోటుపాటు ఎరిగినవాడు one who knows both sides of the question పోటాడు or పోటొగ్గు to get ready for battle. రణోద్యోగము చేయు. పోటుకంబము pōṭu-kambamu. n. A post or pillar which is set up as a prop, ఊతగానిలిపినస్తంభము. పోటుకలుపు pōṭu-kalupu. n. A second weeding, రెండవమారు తీయు కలుపు. పోటుకాడు, పోటుబంటు, పోటుమగడు or పోటుమానిసి pōṭu-kāḍu. n. A hero, a courageous man, శూరుడు. పోటుకోల pōṭu-kōla. n. A sharp pointed stick used as a prop. 'వలలును దెరలు ప్రోగులు చుట్టగాలేదు, పోటుకోలొకటియు బుచ్చలేదు, తెగిన మెకంబుల తేలేదు.' Dhurjati. iii. 96. పోటుగంప pōṭu-gampa. n. A large basket. పోటుపాటు pōṭu-pāṭu. n. The ebb and flow of a tide. Paidim. i. 86. 'నీపోటుపాటున నిపుడిట్లు మమ్ము బోరించితివి.' HD. ii. 1196. నీపోటుపాటున, నీవెచ్చి తగ్గుటచేతను. పోటెక్కించినవాడు pōt-ekkinchina-vāḍu. n. An assailant, one who attacks. ఎదిరించి పైకి వచ్చేవాడు.' పోటెక్కించినవారిమీద ప్రయోగించినవాని సమరపతి వధియించుననియును బెద్దలవలన వినియుందుము.' M. VII. iii. 96. పోటొడ్డు pōt-oḍḍu. v. n. To face in battle, to oppose. యుద్ధానిముఖుడగు. 'పొడిసింగరాజు పోటొడ్డినాడు.' Pal. 410. పోట్లాట pōḷl-āṭa. (పోటులు+ఆట.) n. Fighting; a struggle, dispute, యుద్ధము, కొట్టాట. పోట్లాడు or పోటులాడు pōṭl-āḍu. v. n. To fight, to battle, to struggle, to come to blows. యుద్ధముచేయు. పోట్లావు pōṭl-āvu. n. A cow that butts, పొడిచే స్వభావముగల ఆవు పోటరి or పోటరికాడు pōṭari. (పోటు+అరి.) n. A hero, a brave man. శూరుడు. 'పోటరులైనభర్త లేవురు గలరంటి.' M. IV. ii. 264. పోటరితనము pōṭari-tanamu. n. Heroism. శూరత్వము.

(p. 804) poṭṭu poṭṭu. [Tel.] n. Husk, bran. ఉముక. The scales of fish. Vēma. 1364. పొట్టు దాన్యము grain that has a coat or husk, as వడ్లు, అరిగలు, కొర్రలు, చామల్ను వరిగెలు, &c. పొట్టుకర్ర an empty sprout in a ear of corn. గట్టివిడిచిపెట్టి పొట్టుకు పోరాడెదవా will you give up the real for the false? మీదితోలు పొట్టుపొట్టుగా రాలిపోయినది the skin peeled off in scales. పొట్టుపొరలగు poṭṭu-poral-agu. v. n. To be troubled, harassed or tormented. పీడితమగు. 'అప్పాపాత్ముండెట్లునుం జక్కంబడక తనచలంబుతోన పొట్టపొరలయ్యె కయ్యంబు పొడుచు వాడుగాని.' M. V. iv. 88.

(p. 845) prāṇamu prāṇamu. [Skt.] n. Air, wind, breath, life, vitality, the living soul. గాలి, హృదయమందలి గాలి, హృదయమందలిగాలి, ఉసురు. In Grammar, a vowel. ప్రాణముతోనున్నవాడు one who is yet living. కొనప్రాణముతోనున్నాడు he is nearly dead. ప్రాణమువిడిచెను he breathed his last, gave up the ghost. పంచప్రాణములు pancha-prāṇamulu. n. The five vital airs, called ప్రాణము, అపానము, సమాణము, ఉదానము, వ్యాసము. అతడు దానిమీద ప్రాణములు విడుస్తున్నాడు or వానికి దానిమీద పంచప్రాణములు he loves her very dearly. ప్రాణముమీదకువచ్చేపని a most perilous affair. వానిప్రాణము మీదికి వచ్చినది he is in danger of his life. ప్రాణముతో పట్టుకొనిరి they caught him alive. నా ప్రాణముపోయినా ఇట్లు చెప్పుదునా I will not say so even if it should cost me my life. వాడు పిడికిట ప్రాణములు పట్టుకొని వచ్చినాడు he arrived half dead. వానికి నేర్పుట ప్రాణసంకటమవును it would cost immense labour to teach him. ఆ విగ్రహమునకు ప్రాణప్రతిష్ఠచేసినారు literally, they gave life to the image, i.e., they performed the ceremony by which the god is supposed to be lodged in the image. ప్రాణత్యాగము suicide, ఆత్మహత్య. ప్రాణాతురము or ప్రాణసంకటము deadly peril. 'ప్రాణాతురమైనచో పరిణయంబులయందును బల్కుబొంకు సత్యాతిశయంబు.' M. III. v. 67. ప్రాణాపాయము mortal danger. ప్రానావనము saving the life. ప్రాణావసానకాలమున in his last moments. ప్రాణాహుతి the five morsels offered to the five vital principles. ప్రాణస్నేహము intimate friendship. ప్రాణదానముచేసినాడు he gave them their lives, he spared their lives. నా ప్రాణము ఉండేమట్టుకు as long as I live. ప్రాణగొడ్డము prāṇa-goḍḍamu. n. The loss of life, death. చావు, ప్రాణహాని, ప్రాణాపాయము. 'వినునృపరాజ్యామిషముంగొనపలువురచేత ప్రాణగొడ్డంబైయున్నను ధీరుడే మరమినది దనకునుదక్కించుకొను బుధస్తుత్యముగాన్.' M. XII. ii. 208. ప్రాణదుడు prāṇa-duḍu. n. The giver of life, the creator. బ్రహ్మ. ప్రాణనాధుడు or ప్రాణేశుడు prāna-nādhuḍu. n. The lord of (her) life, i.e., a husband or lover, మగడు. Yama, యమధర్మరాజు. ప్రాణవాయువు prāṇa-vāyuvu. n. Oxygen gas. ప్రాణాచారము prāṇā-chāramu. See ప్రాయోపవేశము. ప్రాణాయామము prāṇā-yāmamu. n. A ritual mode of breathing, while mentally reciting certain prayers, stopping one nostril and inhaling or exhaling with the other: నాసికారంధ్రము లవద్ధనుండు వాయువును మంత్రపూర్వకముగా నిరోధించుట.
