(p. 948) madamu madamu. [Skt.] n. Fat, కొవ్వు. Pride, arrogance, lust, frenzy, madness. గర్వము. Musk, కస్తూరి. మదాంధతి the blindness of pride, haughtiness. విద్యామదము the pride of learning. ధనమదము the pride of wealth. ధనదాంధుడు he who is blinded by riches. కులమదము the pride of caste or birth. ఉద్యోగమదము the pride of office. రూపమదము the pride of beauty. యౌవన మదము the pride of youth. అన్నమదము the pride of plenty. స్త్రీమదము the pride of passion. మదాలస indolent, heavy as with tipsiness or lust. అతని మదమణిగినది his lustful arrogance has gone, he has sown his wild oats. adj. Proud. మదగజము an elephant in rut. 'మదవైరిద్విపసింహముర్తి.' G. viii. 4. మదించు madinṭsu. v. n. To become fat, proud, or arrogant, to be in rut. కొవ్వు, అహంకరించు, మత్తిలు. మదపుటేనుడు madapu-ṭ-ēnugu. n. An elephant in rut. (The ట is inserted to prevent elision.) మదమడచు madam-aḍaṭsu. v. n. To put down pride, to kill. చంపు. మడవతి madavati. n. A wanton woman. మదావళము, మదహస్తి, మదహత్తి or మదకలము madāvaḷamu. n. An elephant in its prime.

(p. 1009) muraḷi muraḷi. [Skt.] n. A flute, a pipe. పిల్లనగ్రోవి. A kind of a horse's pace. అశ్వధారావిశేషము. మురళించు muraḷinṭsu. v. a. To scorn, set at naught, తిరస్కరించు. 'ద్వి ముత్తెపుచిప్పలమురళించుమోము.' HD. i. 571.

(p. 975) māma māma. [from Skt. మామక.] n. A father-in-law. Also, a mother's brother, మేనమామ. The same title is bestowed equally on the brothers of a father-in-law, as పినమామగారు, పెద్దమామగారు. The phrase శకునిమామ denotes 'Uncle Sakuni,' i.e., an evil counsellor. Sakuni was the maternal uncle of Duryōdhana. మామమామ an epithet of Vishnu, as he married Lakshmi the daughter of the Sea (సముద్రుడు) whose wife (Ganges) is related to him as a daughter, లక్ష్మీదేవిని పెండ్లాడినందున తనకు మామయైన సముద్రునికి పెండ్లామగు గంగాదేవి తనకు కూతురువరుస అగుటచేత విష్ణువు సముద్రునికి మామ అయ్యెను.

(p. 1036) mogamu or మొకము mogamu. [from Skt. ముఖము.] n. The face. ముఖము. Front, ఎదురు. An entrance, door, ద్వారము. adj. Chief, ముఖ్యము. మొగచాటు moga-ṭsāṭu. n. Surfeit, disgust in eating, ముఖముకొట్టడము. 'తినతినజిహ్వకు తీపైన మొగచాటు, సారెకుబలుకుట చప్పదనము.' Venkatēswara. §. 16. మొగతప్పు or మొగతిరుగు moga-tappu. v. n. To have the face turned away, విముఖమగు. మొగదల mogadala. n. The end or butt (of a wall.) ఎదురు, ముందటిభాగము. మొగవట్ట or మొగముట్టు moga-paṭṭa. n. An ornament for a horse's head something like a cavesson ముఖపట్ట. 'మణులమొగపట్ట పన్నిసాహిణియొకండు.' Swa. iv. 37. మొగపడు moga-paḍu. v. a. To see, చూచు. మొగపాళము or మొగవాళము moga-pāḷamu. n. The front portion of a house, &c. ఇల్లు లోనగు వాని ముందటిభాగము. మొగపిరికి moga-piriki. (మొగము + పిరికి.) n. A tortoise, తాబేలు. మొగముతప్పించు to abscond, disappear. మొగపు mogapu. (మొగ + పూస.) n. The front portion of a necklace, హారాదుల ముఖభాగము. A buckle. కంఠభూషణము యొక్క ముఖభాగము. 'ధాత్రీ మహాదేవి తాల్చిన మున్నీటి మొలమాలిరత్నంపు మొగపనంగ.' Prabhavati Pradyumnam, i. 3. మొగమిచ్చు moga-miṭsṭsu. v. n. To show the face, to favour, to be pleased, సుముఖుడగు. మొగమోటమి, మొగమొటము, మొగమోట or మోగమోటమి mogamōṭami. n. Partiality, pity, compassion, దాక్షిణ్యము. Hesitation, doubt, సంకోచము. మొగమోడు mogam-ōḍu. v. n. To be ashamed. సిగ్గుపడు. 'ముంగిటికే తెంచి మొగమోడనగునె.' Abhim. 47. To be partial, దాక్షిణ్యపడు. To hesitate, సంకోచించు. మొగవాడ moga-vāḍa. n. The front door of a temple. గోపుర ద్వారము. 'అరిమురిమొగవాడ దెరచివీక్షింప.' BD. iv. 661. మొగవీణె moga-vīṇe. n. A kind of వీణె, ముఖవీణె. మొగసరి moga-sari. (మొగము + అరి.) Same as మొగముట్టు (q. v.) మొగసాల, మొగసల or మోసాల moga-sāla. n. An entrance hall. నడవ. ముఖమంటపము, నగరితల వాకిటిచావడి. 'నీ తమ్ముండు పెద్ద మొగసాలం జాలు మానసులం గావలివెట్టి.' M. ix. ii. 34. A porch in front of a house, తలవాకిటిపంచ.

(p. 990) mu mu. [Tel.] n. An affix of neuter nouns and of masculine nouns that take neuter form as కళత్రము, అపత్యము. In composition, it is contraction for మూడు three, and the first consonant of the next word is usually doubled. Thus మారు a time, ముమ్మారు three times, thrice. పాతిక a quarter, ముప్పాతిక three quarters. ముక్కన్ను (మూడు + కన్ను) the third eye, మూడవ కన్ను. ముక్కాక threefold heat. ముక్కాని (మూడు + కాని) three quarters of an anna. ముక్కారు (మూడు + కారు) three seasons. ముక్కాలు (మూడు + కాలు) three legs or three quarters of anything .ముక్కాలిపీట a three-legged stool. ముక్కోల (మూడు + కోల) a trident, త్రిదండము. మముజ్జగము or ముల్లోకములు the three worlds, viz., earth, heaven and hell. మువ్వన్నె the three (primary) colors.
